While he could do that with his editor, the results were not good. He asked my how Vegas would handle it. I've never done green screen. In a couple of minutes, I used his footage and sent him the results. Guess what software he is using now... Vegas.

Hi Derek, Thank you for your very informative and timely video on the reasons behind the changes to Vegas Movie Studio. Very well covered and I concur with you on how disappointing it is that MAGIX would go about releasing Movie Studio 18 in this manner. I would have thought that in this day and age MAGIX would have a corporate responsibility to advise its users who went to purchase the upgrade as to the changed platform. I like you am very saddened to hear the news about the demise of this program that we all know and love. Your website has been invaluable to me over the years and you have also assisted me personally with many questions over this period for which I am very grateful. I am a “weekend hack” as a video editor but have become more skilled after using this product since Version 10 back in 2012. I mainly edit overseas holiday video (not that there is much of that happening at the moment) and have also shot and edited a handful of weddings and other special events for family and friends over the years. I currently have Movie Studio Version 16 platinum and want to stay relevant so was wondering whether (given my use of the program for editing) whether you would recommend I purchase the Edit or Pro version of Vegas Pro? My main issue when editing regarding sound is removing wind noise when shooting video outside on a windy day and road noise when shooting video from inside a moving vehicle. I would imagine having Sound Forge Pro on board would be beneficial for these reasons. As always any advice is very much appreciated.
@MovieStudioZen3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your message Joe! Unlike many other YT channels, I always read ALL of the comments and reply 99% of the time, unless they are a d*&^head. I love reading messages like yours 😃 Noise reduction is a very important area I need to make tutorials for. The basic audio tools in all versions of Vegas, are not good enough to remove background noise and wind noise. Sound Forge Pro 14 does come with Vegas Pro 18 and will also come with Vegas Pro 19, when it is released in August. Sound Forge Pro also comes with a very powerful plugin from iZotope called RX Elements. 1. You can use the Noise Reduction plugin in Sound Forge Pro to record a "noise-print" of *constant* background noise like computer fans or air-conditioning. The noise-print then gets subtracted and it becomes silent. To do this, always make sure you record 10 seconds of nothing before you start speaking in a video. Use the 10 secs of silence to sample noise floor. Here is link to quick instructions I posted on my forum! www.moviestudiozen.com/forum/sound-forge/2150-how-to-do-simple-background-noise-reduction-wtih-sound-forge-11#10818 2. For more difficult things to remove, use iZotope RX Elements which is a basic Spectral Audio Editor. It has built in presets to remove common sounds and for more difficult frequencies, you can literally "paint them out" in the spectral editor. Just yesterday I upgraded to iZotope RX Standard, which is the full pro version. Both versions of RX work like magic 🧙 3. Will make video tutorials on this topic as soon as I can! 4. In answer to your question, I recommend you take advantage of the 2 for 1 upgrade offer to Vegas Pro 18 now and Vegas Pro 19 for free, when it is released in late August. This deal is US $249, but remember you get Sound Forge Pro as well, plus RX Elements. You will have to login to your Magix account during the sales process, to confirm you have an eligible product already registered. Use my affiliate link here for discounted VP sales page: zen3.me/us-vegas-pro Scroll to bottom and select upgrade link. If you live in a non-USA country, you can set to your currency in top right corner of their website.

I've had a lot of frank discussion with the developers of Vegas, ever since Magix bought Vegas from Sony. They exist in their own little island in Madison, Wisconsin USA and are apart from Magix in Germany. I'm guessing Magix invested a lot of money in buying a large collection of software (Vegas Pro, Vegas MS, Sound Forge, Acid Pro, etc...). No one knows "the numbers" but I suspect the customer base for the Vegas brand was/is very large. Magix was really buying a massive email list of new customers! The Vegas development team were the ones who decided to retire Vegas MS, so they could spend more time, resources and money in developing Vegas Pro into an even better product, so that it keeps up with the competition while remaining uniquely Vegas. That all being said, I truly believe that Vegas Pro is going to be here for many years to come! If a giant EGO or small group of giant EGOs from a different country, decided to actively sabotage Vegas Pro, that would mean the end of them as well.

Old Sony versions should still install OK on different computers. If you have a problem, you can login to your Magix account and deactivate Movie Studio Platinum 11 on old computer and use on new computer, however you should be able to install on 2 separate machines at the same time, with no problems.

I can confirm that Vegas Pro is NOT affected by this change. VP is not going anywhere soon and I will be continuing to make tutorials for VP and support it. The development team for Vegas Pro in the USA has already invested a huge amount of time, blood, sweat and tears in making sure it stays up to date and useful for users.

Ever since Magix has taken over the Sony Vegas & Movie Studio products I have not been too keen on the way this company does business. I upgraded to Vegas Pro 18 and it keeps on crashing all the time. I have to switched over to Davinci Resolve. You can get a fully functional free copy of Davinci Resolve or buy the one time Full Version that comes with unlimited upgrades . Davinci Resolve is more robust and a lot more powerful than the Vegas Pro software.
@MovieStudioZen3 жыл бұрын
If you have already switched to DaVinci, you have done what I lot of other Vegas Pro users have also done. Vegas Pro 18 has been really stable on my computer. To find out why it was crashing all the time, you need to have a forensic look at everything in your workflow. Some video formats can play up in Vegas and need to be converted to Apple ProRes, Avid DNxHD or Handbrake .mp4. If you were using videos from Mobile Phones, that is the most likely cause of problem, because most phones record to Variable Frame Rate, which Vegas hates. Converting to Constant Frame Rate fixes that issue.

If I buy Vegas Movie Studio 14 or 17, etc new from eBay, can I still install and register it?
@MovieStudioZen Жыл бұрын
I would STRONGLY recommend NOT buying old software on eBay. Too many scammers in this department !!! There are also bugs in those versions of VMS, which will never be fixed now, because the program has been retired. Some of the main bugs are caused by updates to Windows, which stop some functions from working correctly. I would recommend you consider upgrading to VEGAS Edit 20, if you own any older version of VEGAS. Or simply buy VEGAS Edit 20. VEGAS Edit 20 is the full version of Vegas Pro, just by itself. VEGAS Pro is the big brother of Vegas Movie Studio, so it works in a similar way. Links in video description for these deals. Final thing: About twice a year, humblebundle.com often sells older versions of Vegas Pro at a massive discount. So if you don't have much money to spare, check that site from time to time.

@MovieStudioZen3 жыл бұрын
1. Vegas Pro 18 Edit is the full Vegas Pro 18 program just by itself. It IS Vegas Pro!!! 2. Vegas Pro 18 (more expensive) is Vegas Pro 18 + Sound Forge Pro 14 - this next level gives you 2 programs. 3. Vegas Pro 18 Suite is Vegas Pro 18 + Sound Forge Pro 14 + a stack of very powerful 3rd Party FX plugins. I'm sure you've read my comments, but just to remind you. You can get Vegas Pro 18 Edit now for only $99, if you own any older version of Vegas. There is also the $149 2 for 1 offer, to get VP18 Edit now and VP19 Edit for free when it comes out in August some time.

Here's the problem I see. Lets say if I decide that I don't want to move on to another editing software and I chose to stick with Movie Studio 16 Platinum, which is what I currently have and use it till it no longer works in the future, then I stick to Vegas Pro Edit... who's to say that Magix won't get rid of that one day? So they're only left with one version and the subscription suite, and so forth. Magix has made a really odd choice here considering their customer base really values options, but more importantly when we buy commercial products we expect transparency and support. The very least they can do is keep supporting what I have until I see which direction they're heading in before I can decide, if they go all adobe in 2024 - beyond then that will when I switch.
@MovieStudioZen2 жыл бұрын
Vegas Pro is NOT going to be DELETED! Vegas Pro is here to stay for a long time. The USA division of Magix is 100% responsible for Vegas Pro and they are going all in on making Vegas Pro as best as possible. Magix Germany are the ones responsible for creating confusion. Magix has invested a lot of time and money in purchasing and developing Vegas Pro. They are not going to destroy that any time soon. How do I know all this? Because Magix USA made public statements about this on the official Vegas Pro forum. ALL versions of Vegas Pro can still be bought outright. The new subscription option is just that - another option. YOU make the choice of which way you want to buy/rent.

It's sad. Just as it is sad to look at your taskbar in Windows 10, and understand that the new flawed Windows 11 no longer allows you not to group icons in the taskbar, leaving captions to them, plus a compact view of the taskbar. That is, the classic Windows taskbar has been significantly reduced in functionality for the first time for many years. Thumbnails on folders also stopped being displayed, which is unthinkable. Now all folders look the same and it has become much more difficult to visually navigate among them. If all these remains in the final version, then for me Windows 11 does not exist.
