Wow only 39 comments this is the best piece of video work I've ever seen on KZbin Little Charlie Chaplin appeal There was a moment when the last urges Of laughter almost spilled over I have some chickens and a building but neither one of them are associated with the other That would be blasphemous I'm Might gonna have to move into that building 👷♀️ 🤔

That was an great way to move the shed. I'm going be able use your way. Thanks for your video.
@someoneinncarolina5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I will give a couple caveats if they aren't mentioned in the video: 1) the casters can add up in cost 2) if the weight is too high, the casters can deflate over time - solid rubber would be way better, but harder to find with these capacities. A cheaper more traditional method is to use PVC pipes or wood cylinders, etc. It can be a little bit tedious, but if you don't need to move it very far, or often, it may be a better option. Good luck!

How did you secure the second set of square rollers? Did they sit across two floor joists? Did you screw them in?

Thank you for this video! If you didn't have the luxury of pulling with a vehicle, how many people do you think it would take to push that shed?
@someoneinncarolina4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't think it would be easily possible in my case. I'd at least recommend a pulley system or winch. It really depends on the terrain - up hill, down hill, rocky, smooth, paved, etc. and also the number of wheels to help distribute the load, and how heavy the building is. A cheap solution if you're moving a short distance is large diameter PVC pipes, and you simply roll over several and keep moving them up to the front. Or the same idea with round posts (cylinders), etc. All that said, you can probably push a building in a pinch with any vehicle - just try not to scuff the paint, etc. Whatever you end up doing, keep structural integrity and safety in mind while doing it. Good luck!

I have a 12x14 shed that I am planning to move with a very similar strategy. I think it weighs significantly less than this one, it has a shorter wall height too.

How did you build the dolly with 4 wheels?
@someoneinncarolina3 жыл бұрын
From memory: I built squares out of 2x10 wood, diagonally joined. I then reinforced the joined corners with the wheel mounts. On the building I added some 2x10 strips and mounted the square with wheels to that to distribute specific pressure on the old building more evenly. It really just made the wheels easier to handle in sections - probably an optional step.

Professional building movers always use a 3-point wheel set-up. Because 3 points always define a plane surface, a 3-point set-up doesn't torque the building. You still need the same number of wheels, just put one set close together, like a tricycle.
@someoneinncarolina4 жыл бұрын
Awesome tip. I hadn't really thought about that before, though I was aware of the same principle for chairs and tables. Thanks!

Did you buy or build the dollys and where did ya get the parts and approx cost?
@someoneinncarolina4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what the dolly is referring to; however, basically these are just Harbor Freight pneumatic caster wheels lag screw bolted to some 2x8 or 2x10 boards at the bottom of the building. So I guess I made them, but they are very rudimentary. Cost was lag screws and wood... maybe $100 total?

could the photography and explanation of attaching casters be any worse?
@unionse7en Жыл бұрын
Get a Mobile home axle and, or make similar, much larger . Can use larger wheel , wheels don't need to be under the building, just the beam for the wheels does. Could be done with casters, but if not needed go for larger wheels.

I was thinking of making two for my cars front wheels, so when the streets are flooded again I can place the front wheels on them and push my car through the flooded street. Similar to DJS Universal Dolly.
@someoneinncarolina4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Keep in mind that cars are heavy, so you'll need a lot of casters. I'd recommend solid foam if you can find them - these pneumatic ones were destroyed pretty quickly. I even tried filling them with "great stuff" foam, but it does not work very well. Better to just buy foam filled wheels, which last I checked Harbor Freight doesn't carry - though they do sell solid rubber, it's just lower surface area comparatively, so will dig into dirt easily.

how did the tires not sink in the dirt? was the move done in winter?
@someoneinncarolina7 жыл бұрын
Because they are pneumatic tires and because it wasn't too wet, it worked OK. This particular move was also done in cold-ish weather. I did another move in the future with 16x wheels and it was in the summer - no issues with tires sinking in either move. It's all about distributing weight evenly and over a large surface area. :)

"Free range" chicken eggs ranches around here mount permanent wheels on a 12 by 20 chicken house with built in feed supplements, outside tubing fed water containers, chicken wire fencing rolls off the side to enclose hundreds of square feet of outside grass feeding area, has a center isle for egg collecting and is rain proof inside. When one area is exhausted of green grass, the chickens are locked inside, fencing rolled up on the side, tractor hooked up and towed to a new location. VERY productive method of collecting true "grass fed, free range" eggs at low overhead cost.
@someoneinncarolina7 жыл бұрын
Very nice! I don't suppose you could include a few pictures? Or maybe some keywords to find pictures of that particular type of setup? I have a similar design for chicken tractors, but much smaller scale.
@redwoodcoastcalif7 жыл бұрын
Wish I could but only see them in fields driven past. Watched water loading, fencing pull out, supplemental feeding, eggs collecting from 200 ft away using binoculars. Very clever operation. Creative.

I just checked the description. Looks like the rotary caster is a different product now. The stationary is $15. I'd guess you can find similar casters for $15 - $25 per.
