We have so enjoyed your videos because you have shared your struggle in finding the right way to move forward. My fantasy is living in France but my reality is probably spending 2-3 months per year here. My husband and I are in Paris for the month. We actually “spotted” you and Tony twice! Once while having lunch in the marais and again today near Saint michel. Thanks for your videos and insight. We will be moving on to Nice next month.

Hi Sharon! Yes we wer in both places you mentioned those days. We would have loved for you to have said hello. We hope you enjoy Nice. Our transition will be more along the lines of back and forth between Nice and the US for a period of time. The living full-time in France won't be happening for at least a year or two.

So pleased to hear that you've decided on your future plans. They sound very well considered. Completely agree about fantasy vs reality. We're loving having a base in Italy and France to explore from rather than hopping around from place to place. That wouldn't suit us either. Having a clean comfortable home in both countries makes the world of difference. Living somewhere is also so different to visiting. Only time in a place helps you to really understand its character, culture, good and bad points. M&R

There are surprises about what you can find - or not find - when you rent long-term in France too, not just when you purchase. If I undertsand correctly, to date you have just rented Air B'n'B, which is a specific formula but quite different longer-term renting. Also, quite seriously, the Olympics next year in Paris are having a horrendous impact on rented accommodation, in terms of availability, not necessarily in the areas where events are specifically to be held, also in the classic tourist areas, including Saint-Michel. A bon entendeur...!

Next year I'm selling my house probably renting long term in Riviera Playa because I don't know if I want to settle there. Maybe I'll hop over to Nice and check that area out...let me know when you're subletting. 😊 Have a great time 👍

Why is it always either Paris or Nice? Why not live and buy in Lyon, for example, or Bordeaux, or any number of smaller towns with access to TGV or SNCF/RER trains and airports? If you speak a little French, can’t you get by? Also, there are many English speaking real estate agents across France, especially around Occitanie, Normandy, Brittany, Aquitaine… Adrian provides a great service but I think many of us can’t afford Nice or Paris, realistically. 😊❤🎉 Franchement (frankly)!

We are visiting Lyon this winter, but feel that the climate and location of Nice is ideal for us. We have heard lovely things about Bordeaux and other areas of France and plan to visit them all. But as far as having a home-base in France, Nice will be a good starting point. And yes, I'm sure there are many English speaking real estate agents across France, but we crossed paths with Adrian and like what she has to offer. There is really no reason to look for someone else.

Glad to hear Adrian pronounce the term "tax residency" as people do get unstuck in this one. ;-) One other thing that strikes me as important is the immigrant/expat terminology. An expat may stay long-term but the intention is always to return to one's country of origin. If the intention is to become a permanent resident, then technically, that's immigration, not expatriation. It's about intention.😊

Hello friends, after a month of constant cloudy days, and as much as we love Bordeaux we are done. Yes, Nice is now our next destination to explore. It does seem a fit though but we will be staying a lot there for the next year just to be sure. We do have the 2 kids , so next move we hope its longer. Kids do like some sort of routine! Hope your travels are going well. And you are prob taking these cold months and staying in FL!

We fell in love with Bordeaux and had plans for even buying those first 2 months but then weeks and weeks of cloudy days while Nice was 10 to 15 degrees warmer and sunnier just changed our mindset. But we will def come back to BDX. Love the energy of it. @@kjandtonylovefrance

I haven't seen her for a long time. She used to be on HGTV but when the Paris government started cracking down on purely investment property to supposedly free up property for residents to own, she took off for other areas and I think she was in the south of France. I was wondering how she was doing. Glad to see her again.

Money does matter in any consideration...would we want a tiny apt with no elevator? We're used to a large home which means space, which means money. We are in our early seventies, and maybe 10 years ago we might have considered a move, but between medical issues, needing space and ease,we will continue to spend three weeks every fall in Paris, live the Parisienne life. Good luck, love you!

Update! We just got back from three weeks Paris and here area few takeaways....you probably know all this but for your subscribers it may be helpful. it is totally possible to find a suitable apt in the middle of Paris for less than $1 million. I thought that would be impossible. And I don't mean to sound like $1 mil is no big deal. We looked at the real estate window ads and were amazed. We stayed in a large, very old apt near the Maubert Mutualite metro, very convenient, a wonderful market twice a week. I daydreamed a lot...could we live here?? Yes no? Well here's what I discovered. Yes,I could live inParis but I think the main thing other than the size of the apt is love the neighborhood, have an elevator, a nearby taxi stand and markets. Once you've done the tourist stuff and other explorations your neighborhood will be your world. You won't be crisscrossing Paris to see everything. Also, have your apt inspected for molds. We were in a 400 yr old building, very well kept up but we both got nasty sinus infections. I think it was the building not to mention hundreds of old books in the apt. Paris has a dept specifically for this problem, but it could be months before they can do anything. We found the people friendly, happy and accommodating. Sidewalks are clean. Walking at night was not threatening. However, there are many more cyclists since Covid and you have to pay attention. These are just a few things, but living in a large city is both a treat and work. I lived in NYC and Mexico City years ago. It was tough then! So I wish you the best! 🥐🥐🥐
