MOVING INTO THE JEEP FULL-TIME!? Selling the RV? BLM Camping? /// EFRT EPISODE 98

The EPIC Family Road Trip Episode 98 /// In this week’s episode we head all the way back up North to Smith Rock, Oregon after an EPIC Jeep overland expedition in Baja, Mexico! If you haven’t seen our two part series from Baja don’t forget to check them out! - We headed back up to Oregon to shoot a speaker's real video with a film crew which was a fun experience, and the family also got to go rock climbing in the State Park! We also make the big move and traded our 3 ⅕ year old Tepui RTT for brand new CVT Shasta RTT’s for on top of our Jeep’s Front Runner roof rack and our CVT Trailer. Once we were finished up in Smith Rock we prepped for the long journey back south to Arizona which will be our basecamp for a few months as dad flies to and from speaking events and we all do work, school, and adventures in the area. We will be in and around Arizona leading up to Overland Expo West in Flagstaff this May! - But one BIG difference for this leg of the journey is...We are leaving the RV behind and living completely out of the Jeep and CVT trailer! We are quite used to this form of overlanding as we lived like this for 6 months in New Zealand, but we haven’t done extended Jeep overlanding trips in North America until now. We are even thinking of selling the RV which we have lived/travelled in full-time in since 2015 and moving to full-time Jeep overlanding!....Stay tuned on our KZbin Channel/Instagram page to follow a long on this next possible leg of our epic family adventure!

Another great video. Just an idea that may make camp and towing a little easier. Have a hitch receiver welded to the trailer at the front of the box and mount the bikes on the trailer. Then you don’t have to take the bikes off if your not planning to ride them. Just unhook the trailer and pull forward to access the back of the Jeep. You also won’t have to worry about which order to load and connect things.

Are the higher rails you mounted on your trailer, to mount your tent on top of, a standard option through CVT or is this a EFRT original? Also, what is the reason for the higher elevation of your RTT, further away from the snakes, better breeze, higher vantage point (better shooting platform), or just looks cool for a higher CDI factor? not a fan of that style of Maxx Trax mount. The first time you use them and they bend or warp they will never go back onto the trailer without the help of the straps, which you just stopped using. Bottom line is keep the straps handy.

Hey Epic Family, love the new Jeep and trailer setup. That is my dream rig right there! The only thing I don’t like is that when you setup camp you have to take the bikes off and lay them down in the dirt. I did notice a receiver on the back of the trailer, could the bike rack mount there? Would save the gears on the bikes. Any ways, I’m looking forward to seeing your adventures in Arizona. Since the trailer is so light couldn’t you take the pin out the hitch then put the trailer on the ball then slide it back into the receiver and put the pin back in? Instead of taking the bikes on and off.

What's the benefit of the adventure trailer and RTT combo over something like a Black Series RV of some sort? My wife and I are planning to full-time and want a more rugged rig. There isn't much to choose from in the states, but we're not sure that a tent would work since I do IT support remotely.

Half my family is in Europe & I’ll respectfully disagree with you. There are more trekking vehicle options in the USA than Europe. Perhaps Australia is the top consumer market (per capita) for trekking/overlanding, but USA has excellent choices - Outfitted mid & full size trucks, Ford & Benz vans, SUVs like the Wrangler, 4Runner, & Land Cruiser, then RVs in every size imaginable. I suggest finding a Regional overland event/showcase ... it’s really eye opening in terms of the options from fully setup used vehicles at $30K and all the way up to 6-figure long haulers (like Earth Roamer). Best of luck!👍

Speed Brake2018 - it handles well, but we’re kind of maxed out on weight. We’re getting high capacity springs from AEV installed this week. We just motor along at the speed limit and everything‘s fine. 🚙👍🏻

Pretty awesome! What business opportunities or sources of income do you guys find both to keep this going and for the kids moving forward. My wife and I have talked about doing this several times and just find it hard to let go of the security of our jobs

josh beynon - Yes it is important to have a good source of income that you can earn while on the road. I work as an executive coach and professional speaker. I know some who make money with photography and others have online jobs. Hope this helps.

Actually you should get Excursion diesel, invest money for rebuild. It will be way roomy than any Wrangler. Just to think, even Grand Cherokee has more cargo 36 vs 31 on Wrangler.
