I moved to FL from NJ in 1986 for the weather. My parents had moved down from IN after I graduated college there, three years later I joined them after another winter of frozen car door locks, cars not starting and feet freezing. I drove down in Sept during a torrential rain storm, which did not phase me in the least. I flee to family when I have to evacuate St Pete but I love it here. I think it's gotten hotter as I've gotten older but I now work in my native garden instead of an office so I doubt it's so much hotter but storms and the need to evacuate sure has increased!

One cool thing about Florida is that it's the only state on the east coast where you can watch a sunset at the beach, and they are really beautiul.

Hello, I'm from central valley, California as well. We've visited Florida a few months ago and just loved it. I don't want to look at through "vacation goggles" though lol. I have many questions but I'll just ask a few. Are you still loving it there? We're looking in the Davenport area, Any knowledge as to whether it's a good area? and I keep hearing from family members that do not want me to move there that the cost is as high as it is in California, overall are you saving? or pretty much the same just in a different state?

Hi!!! Thank you for this comment, it’s so important to realize that it’s not all just a vacation, like you said! We were definitely in the honeymoon stage for a while, and now feeling like regular day to day life here. We still absolutely love it. I think picking the right place for you is what’s most important - do your crazy research and homework! The cost is nowhere near as high as it is in California!!!! The cost of living in Florida is higher than a lot of states now, but certainly not higher than CA. We could never afford to move back to CA. Davenport is the town right underneath us 😃, we haven’t really explored Davenport (it’s about 30 minutes in the opposite direction of all the places we frequent), but have friends there who are happy. Very close to Disney! When we researched places to live, we looked up things like housing costs, crime rates, county school reviews, proximity to places we like to go, and flood zones/ places inland and away from the coast during hurricanes! Sounds like you’re doing your research. Feel free to reach out anytime you have more questions, best of luck to you!! Our quality of life is significantly better in Florida than in the Central Valley. Only thing we miss is family and friends.

Interesting to watch your videos. I think there are some misconceptions that people have. I am a 6th generation Floridian. I am 3rd generation South Florida. I left South Florida over 20 years ago to move to California. I chose Santa Barbara. To me, FL is a POS. But that is a generalization and should be refined. ALL of FL is not a POS. Certain sections are. Just like you mentioned that weather in Central Valley is much different than coastal or SoCal, it is not the same in all of FL. Had we had to choose between South Florida and Bakersfield, or Fresno, or Modesto, there is no way we would have moved to CA. If we had to move now and were given a choice of Okechoobee, or Hialeah, or Daytona, we'd say no way. BUT . . . if we were given a choice of Hillsboro Mile, or Key Biscayne, that would give us something to think about. I think what you are learning is that Florida is really 3 states in one. In CA, you know the dividing line is pretty much I5. To the west of that line it is much different than the east of that line. In Florida, the lines are, the keys, then Orlando. When you enter Orlando, you have entered the south. When you have more churches than 7-11's, you are in the south. This is the slower pace, slower speaking, different mindset of people. When you are south of that, well, you are in an area that is what NYC was back in the early 1900s. It is such a melting pot of people from a bunch of different places in the US, and all countries south of Mexico and the Carribean. That is why saying all of Florida is great, or all of Florida is terrible makes as much sense as all of California is great or all of California is terrible. Congrats on finding what makes YOU happy. I will slightly disagree with changing things. There are a lot of great things from CA that FL should implement. People may not be aware of them. Just like there are a lot of great things that FL does that CA should implement. To me, it's ok to converse. One thing, that I think you will learn is that in California, things are majestic. In Florida, areas are beautiful. As a native Floridian, living in Florida, I heard there were some issues with things getting into Yosemite. The naive person I was said, "Why not just put a fence around it?" Coming from where you did, and hopefully you didn't drink something before reading that, you realize it makes no sense. Yosemite is MASSIVE. I didn't know that! I didn't realize that if you look at a map, see the boundary for Broward county, realize that it is about 2% bigger than Yosemite. There is nothing like that in Florida. If you really want to learn to cool off, do it inexpensively, probably about 2 to 2.5 hours from you to the north is Ichetucknee Springs. Find videos on it, take the kids, put them in an inner tube and have a relaxing cool time.

And so many differentiating areas of CA and FL. If we could afford to live on the coast of CA, we would’ve probably never left. We were basically “stuck” in the armpit of CA, for lack of better words 😂 - the Central Valley. I genuinely can see why you feel that way, because in just the 2 years we’ve been here we’ve seen it grow so much in size. We’ve gained a much better lifestyle since moving here, but I wish that every transplant would try to preserve “old Florida” and respect the Floridian way of life! We came in and fully embraced the FL way of living. We are so proud to say we’re Floridians and we love this state so much. People who come in trying to change it/ complain about it are sadly the problem😕. I’m in Vegas and been trying to get to Florida since my daughter was on 7th grade🫤she’s a senior now and is moving to Baltimore to go to college full ride scholarship. Now I’m here in Vegas and ready to go now. However, I’m not sure about that governor there and I know all the ppl that has moved from there has nothing nice to say about Florida 😐but I’m saying it CANT BE as bad as Las Vegas. So for 2025 I’m really looking to be there because I’m so SICK of Las Vegas and I LOVE the beaches there. I’ve visited different parts of Florida and love every area so far, but would move outside of Orlando. Thank you for this video❤church is something I’m definitely worried about because I have a mentor at church and I hope to find another church as such in Florida. However I can always watch it online when I do leave Las Vegas.

The people here have been so wonderful and welcoming in our experience…. We researched populations, crime rates, schools, scenery, fun activities, everything before our move and we even came out and looked at various cities before landing where we did. Every person’s experience will be different from the next, but find what is important to you (if that’s being near the beach etc) and go from there. We even researched churches in the area too! We love how lush and green it is out here compared to the dry desert valley (I’m sure you can relate with Vegas!) …I wish you all the best in your journey 🙏🙏🙏 Florida is definitely closer to Baltimore than Vegas! 😉

I love California but sadly the government has run it down to where the people have to pay for it. But it is hard when so many people move from CA to TX because by having so many move to Austin it has sky rocketed the housing market and it has totally changed the vibe of Austin. Which is now spreading out to the smaller towns. But people are always moving away to and from. If it wasn’t so crazy expensive I would move to CA San Luis Obispo or Orange County

Glad you like Florida I particularly Don’t. Moved here a year ago and can’t believe how hot it is in the summer. You literally have to stay indoors for three months. It’s so freaking hot. You can’t even enjoy your pools. The temperature in the pool is 90° plus and if you go to the beach, it’s the same. The beach water is 90° plus. The cost is no bargain anymore my property taxes have doubled in one year and my insurance company wants to cancel me and I’ve never had a claim. It cost four times more than when I lived in Connecticut! Don’t get me started on the politics of banning books and taking away a woman’s rights to her body and the bugs are ridiculous. You have to have an exterminator not just for inside of the house but also for your ornamentals outside. Also well water is undrinkable so had to get a complete house reverse osmosis water system. I’ll be moving back by next year. The insurance keeps doubling and don’t want to self insure as some people do but that’s like playing Russian roulette with your life’s savings

Heyyy! Just found you because I’m researching moving to FL. Here’s my thing.. I’m in IL and my daughter is autistic. I have heard negative things about the public schools in FL dealing with autism. But every time we go we LOVE IT down there so I’m really just going back and forth with “should I or should I not”

Hi!! Thank you so much for your comment! I know that feeling of loving it here so much, that your heart aches to live here! As far as the public schools go…. Definitely do your research on which counties are known for having the best schools, especially in regards to supporting autistic children! Maybe join some local mom groups on Facebook and see what other moms are saying, that really helped me a lot before we moved. There are also a lot of great free charter schools and private schools (obviously not free lol) as well. Here in Lake County, the schools do have a good reputation. The bad heat is 4 months out of the year… the other 8 months are absolute GORGEOUS perfection! I always say pick your poison… live in a place that’s cold half the year or live in a place with bad heat for a fraction of the year and the rest of the year is glorious. Hurricanes are not bad if you live nowhere near the coast and in a non-flood zone. I would never be brave enough to live in a beach town in FL though. Some people are.😃 Insurance is high, yes.
