For your financial means, you need to transfer the money to a Portuguese bank account. If you can get the money from the investment account to a Portuguese bank account, then it should work fine.

@JuliaRochelleAbroad
@JuliaRochelleAbroad 3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not too early to research where in Portugal you may want to live, check out the NHR tax regime, learn the language, research homes and the types of builds if you’re planning to buy a property. Lots of new things to learn! Some paperwork needs to be done closer to the application, but there’s no harm in getting familiar with the process early as long as you don’t get stressed about changes. It will probably change in some way if you’re years away

Hi Julia,. Useful information. I am not clear over what the purpose of the D7 visa is, and have a couple of questions: 1. MUST you have a D7 visa in order to be able to apply for residency? (Many countries' nationals can travel to Portugal for up to 90 days anyway without a visa) 2. Can a D7 visa be applied for purely and simply for the purpose of staying up to 120 days (rather than what might be a 90 day restriction normally)?
@doug.julien
@doug.julien Жыл бұрын
This question was never answered, so I'm leaving this comment in the hope that it's seen. As a national of a country that does not require a visa to enter Portugal and remain there for up to 90 days, could I not enter without a visa, get an apartment rental agreement, and begin the process of applying for a residency permit then?

@JuliaRochelleAbroad
@JuliaRochelleAbroad 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karl, unfortunately you can't apply straight away for the temporary residence permit. That has to be done with SEF and requires the visa, which has to be processed through the consulate in your home country. When you first get the NIF, you will need a fiscal representative. If you need some help with this try one of these services: Bruno with Taxes in Portugal: taxesinportugal.com/ Bordr (I'm a marketing affiliate): www.bordr.io/?via=juliarochelle

Approval based on travel plans seems to be phasing out. Health insurance plans in Portugal are reasonably priced. Mine is around €30/month. You can try to find a bank in Portugal who will work with you online or set up an account in-person on a scouting trip. The easiest way is through a service like Bordr. if you use this link, you can get a small discount on the services: bordr.com/pricing-packages/?via=juliarochelle (full disclosure, I get a small commission at no extra cost to you if you use the link)

@@JuliaRochelleAbroad I've read that with a permit a person has to spend no less than 6 consecutive months in the country. And if there is a break in between, then +2 month will be added. So it's gonna be at least 8 months during the year. Is it true?

Thank you for the brief and informative video. What was the difference in using the DC counsel it over the Texas branch?. I hear that the DC Council it is easier to work with. Was that the reason for your choice? Thanks in advance. M

Texas has a Portuguese consulate but it is an honorary consulate and does not process visas. I was required to use the DC consulate.

If I show my savings of Euro1000 pm for past one year or 3 yrs or even 5 yrs... Can I call it passive income eligible for D7? Also I will have regular pension of Euro1200 pm if I choose to retire by taking voluntary retirement which I want to opt after 2022

Hi Ashok, thanks for the question. If you have 1000 euros per month, you should meet the financial means requirement. Please check with your Portuguese consulate to confirm their income requirements.

After all the time that you have been there and with the discussions that you have had with others, what bank would you recommend setting up remotely to deposit money into for the D7 application? I'm from Houston btw too and want to go by the end of the year (2021).

How long before you have to enter Portugal once the D7 visa is approved? What do you need to do for the 2 year Residency permit once you arrive?
@JuliaRochelleAbroad
@JuliaRochelleAbroad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the D7 visa will have an expiration date on it. You definitely need to enter Portugal before this visa expires. Typically, you need to enter within 90 days of receiving the visa in your passport. I’m making a video on how to get the temporary residence permit. It should be posted in the coming weeks. Let me know if there are any other questions I can help with!

@@JuliaRochelleAbroad Thanks so much. As soon as international flights are somewhat back I plan to fly to Portugal. I pretty much assumed that if you get the D7 visa then you will get the Permit i.e the D7 works as a filter.

Thank you so much for the video, Julia. That was incredibly helpful! :) I’m a young music composer from Morocco, who makes regular income from streaming platforms like Spotify. Do you think I would be eligible for the D7 visa? 🙏🏼

My question is about the type of proof of accomodation I need. I'll apply to DC, so most people are saying 6 months is required, while SanFran is asking for 12 months. The VFS Global checklist says 6 months and mentions "hotel accomodations with address, telephone, etc." I'd prefer to rent for a shorter period and look for a place to buy, so 6 months is better to me than 12. Will they accept an Airbnb reservation? You can book an Airbnb for 6 months, but I've seen some commenters say that the consulates want to see an official lease and make sure the landlord registers your rental with Financas. That makes in complicated. Do people ask an Airbnb host to sign a contract or is a printed confirmation of a reservation addquate proof? Ideally I'd hop around during those first 6 months, a couple of months in Lisbon, a couple of months in the Algarve, and a couple in Porto, but people are saying you need a 6 month contract. Muito obrigado!

Hi Tomaso, unfortunately it seems that different consulates require different things so I don't have a clear answer for you. I've heard of people getting approved with short term (6 month) leases. I know someone who found a short term vacation apartment and the owner agreed to do a lease, so you may be able to find something short with some research.

I’m from the U.K. looking to move to Portugal. I have about £4.2 million (roughly $6m) invested in residential and commercial property here in the U.K. I’m looking to use the passive income from my property portfolio to live in Portugal and retire, maybe do some voluntary work part time. Would this still be the best visa?

If you have that kinda money you can look at Non Habitual Residency (NHR) in Portugal instead. You could benefit 10 year tax free on your foreign sourced income.

I am near Austin Texas and find it difficult to find planes to fly from Texas to Portugal. I would not mind fly to Spain first then travel to PT by Bus, do you have any advice on travelling to PT from Central Texas. Austin will be the nearest airport unless there is Domestic plane from Killeen Forthood area which will be the best. I also try DC and NY, just the same difficulties. I used to fly Norwegian to Europe and would like to learn more options. Multiple stops to stay in different countries or cities around PT is doable as I enjoy travel by BUS in Europe.

There are a lot more flights from Houston than Austin so traveling by bus from Austin to Houston and then by plane to Portugal is another option
