This was very helpful! We’re moving in a month and I think smelling the area and getting to know the surroundings is such a great idea!

This was very helpful, thank you! We are moving apartments this week just a mile apart but much bigger space. Our corgi is eight months old and uses a grass patch in emergencies but I walk him on a schedule. After coming to the new apartment he pooped on the carpet which was very frustrating. I even walked him before coming in. It was his second time coming so far. I'm going to continue the grass subscription at the new place for awhile until he gets comfortable.

That sounds like a great idea. Try to keep as much the same as possible at first. Don't forget to plug in the Adaptils at the new place as soon as you can!

So excited to see that I was already doing most of these, can't go into the new place but we've done several walks in the new area including all the grass near the unit. She's also been having sniff sessions and parallel walks with my sister's dog so they can dog sit on moving day. Thanks for the limited access tip, I would have mucked that one up.

I am moving with my 9 month old yorkie into a new apartment on Monday! I am worried about him having accidents in the new place because I will have carpet. He even has accidents now but I have all wood floors so it is easier to clean up. Should I keep him in his play pen in the new place?

Congrats!! Yes, we want to restrict access to the whole house in the beginning while they are getting used to the new enivornment.

I know I’m very late to commenting on this video but we are moving into a new house this upcoming weekend and we brought our dog by today while we cleaned and painted but she refused to come inside. The previous owners did have a dog and a cat and the house smelled of dog strongly. I cleaned everything and the paint smell definitely overcame the dog smell. I also deep cleaned the crevices of the sliding glass door and all door jams (because dog hair and smell gets stuck in those areas) and she seemed to attempt to come inside but was still very skiddish. I am hoping once we move our beds and furniture inside maybe that familiar smell will allow her to come inside. Any advice is very appreciated.

It's good to go at her pace so if she's not sure about it just yet, try spending some time in front of the house or near the front or back door with the door open. You can do fun games or activities to help her feel more comfortable. All those smells are pretty strong for her (including the paint) so it's going to take some time for her to get used to it. Be sure to use an Adaptil plug in and get it plugged in before you move in. Having some familiar items to balance out the smells will definitely help. Provide lots of opportunities for her to decompress (walks, chewing licking) due to the stress of the move. You'll get there!

My 5 year old rescue dog and I are moving from Texas to Michigan to live with my family (3 adults, 3 cats, and a puppy). Do you have any tips for moving climates or moving into an existing home with a puppy? (My dog has been exposed to puppies and cats before. He is low energy and doesn't find much interest in them. He'd rather stay close to me or nap)
