A full wave loop can be in a square (4 flat sides). But the impediance is 100 Ohm. But if you build it in a rectangle (higher than wider) You can drop the impediance to 52 ohm ;) The ARRL antenna book has the formula.

That is one beautiful antenna. Looks really majestic up in the sky. You have a gift of being able to build really nice looking antennas with a minimum of materials. You have inspired me to build Delta Loop for the 17 meter ham band since I have no antenna for that particular band.

Many years ago, I had a 2element delta loop on 27mhz. Bandwidth was over 5mhz under 2:1 SWR. You just need a little height for them, they work best if you can get them about 25-30 foot up.

Pretty cool man. I wanted to build something like this for 20 meters. I wasn't sure how to handle the base part...and your idea with the plexiglass is a great idea. I think I am going to give it a try and see how it works. It's going to be for portable operations, so I am thinking of using some small fiberglass crappie fishing rods and the entire radiating part of the antenna will just be wire. Thanks for the idea!

Fed at the bottom provides horizontal polarization. Feeding at a side provides vertical. Optional substitute parts: Fishing Rod Blanks or PVC with the wire inside of them. This antenna will work very well 1 foot above ground. Of course, 15 feet is better.

it's ironic that I came across this video today after I put together a 3 ele Delta loop a few hours ago. Mine is still on the ground waiting for better weather to try it on the roof. 14' boom and I'll probably keep it horizontal as you have done. A few years back I ran stacked delta loops(4 of them) and they were great for 10/11 meters. Good luck chasing the dx.

Another interesting antenna project. MJ. Have you considered the Demi-Quad, which also uses RG-59 matching/Network. Vertical or Horizontal/Polarization, depending on feed-point location. Which could then transition into a 2-element/Quad that can be directly fed with 50-ohm coax. The single demi has a 2 Dbd gain and the two element-quad has a 7 Dbd gain. Still call out for you on 385 and your test freq, but no luck. Talked with 1963 Jamaica a few more times 73/88 DX21

Remember also CMC can affect your readings. You really need to start incorporating baluns, or a least a decent ferrite choke for feeding all of these balanced antennas (you're feeding them direct with an unbalanced line, coax).

Is the velocity factor of the 75 ohm coax 0.83? If so, at a freq of 27.385, the calculator shows 7.4528 feet which translates to 7' 5-7/16". Plus, I would assume the measured length would be from where the coax shield and insulated center conductor diverge. So your 1/4 wave stub might be a little short, depending on where you measure from. BTW, I'm just a dumb old bricklayer; know nothing about electronics. Love your channel.

Mr Mower Junkie, you should bore them with some of the details. It's always best to explain why you do something when teaching anything. At least that it's a quarter wave stub, a coaxial transformer, the same principle use for phasing. A few things I want to mention: I take it that's RG6. It's mass produced like no other coax. I also assume you used around 80% VF for your calculations. Now, yes you can question the quality of the coax, however I would be mainly concerned with the velocity factor. The consistency, reliability, QC. Although you did say you have an analyser, maybe you trimmed the length with that. Anyway, I would be inclined to use a military spec coax like a good RG59, with 95% shielding. Of course this will have a 66% VF. The other thing, we estimate the loop to be around 100 ohms in this case, but to see a 50 ohm input impedance with a 75 ohm stub, the loop would have to be around 113 ohms. If your stub is cut to a 1/4 wavelength, as per VF with 43 ohms at the radio end, this would mean your antenna has an impedance of around 130 ohms.
@MowerJunkie

@@MowerJunkie no worries, fair enough. Hey I've gotta pull my finger out and get my 4 element LFA back up. Then maybe I could make contact with you one day, I'm in Victoria, Australia. I've built a lot of antennas in my time (not a ham), the LFA is by far the best. One more thing worth mentioning, remember you can feed a delta loop at several different points and orientation. This changes polarisation and angle of radiation. I believe one of the top corners in that configuration is good for low angle. 535 Jeremy.

Might want to try a wound toroid balun rather than the matching stub.

this antenna was just an experiment to see if I liked a Delta loop. This past weekend I put together a Maco VQ3, 3 element Delta loop antenna with a Gamma match, So far I'm loving it!

@@MowerJunkie I loved the design, I'm a ham myself, but I still get on CB too. Have an old Midland 40 channel on top of my Kenwood TS-2000 amateur rig. I need to upgrade my CB radio to one with SSB though. CB was my first introduction to radio as a kid, so it still has a special place in my heart. I do a lot of experimentation myself. I currently have a whip for CB and an Inverted L for 160-10 meters, Comet GP95 for 2 meters, 440 MHz and 1.2 Ghz. I run a Kenwood TS2000 for the amateur bands, its a ham shack in a box, cover 160 meters-1.2 Ghz minus the 60 meter band. I'm setting up a satellite antenna array, I really want to make a contact with the ISS. I've tried using my handheld radio and yagi antenna, but the guys running 100 watts over power my 5 watts. Have fun on the air MIke//W8MLD.

Instead of using 70 ohm coax could u just use 50 ohm coax right threw thanks
@MowerJunkie

it has to have either a 4-1 Balun, or the tuned piece of 75 ohm coax. They lower the resistance, making it safe to transmit on.

Why can’t copper wires be connected to aluminum,I have always done that since the 60’s I mean I’m not big time into the way you build them, I don’t have the money to buy all the high end meters that you have,just a old swr that’s it
