Try doing what my boss did when I worked commercial landscaping. My boss worked off incentive. Work the whole summer season, the best customer reviews, and the least amount of mistakes gets a 5 day Flordia vacation for them and their significant other. His way of looking at things were a Flordia trip will cost me money, but losing a contract will cost me more. My former boss would take the top 3 performers of that season, and give them a week on him. Just an idea.

What I said was if they just did their job correctly with no customer complaints I wouldn't say a word. I would be happy. But to me. The customer is my boss. I left that company. Of course, there's always one-off mistakes that everyone makes, but when it's systemic, it's a management failure. This clown says he's getting multiple complaints about some of his people. It all depends on who’s leading the culture of the company. If you find yourself being spread thin amongst the day, which is surely does suggest that you do, it’s best to manage one person who can control a crew then trying to control an entire crew without leadership. Utilize the crew that you have reshape it, change it, provide support and you should not have these problems. @@pagelservices I have 5 crews ranging between 5 and 2 workers on each crew. We are located in the twin cities. Although a turf tracer is a bit slower than a ztr it is far less likely to damage properties when mowing in difficult conditions or terrain. A turf tracer with the Kage Wheel Kaddy is the ultimate machine for weekly cutting. With the deck out in front of you the operator is able to get closer to obstacles and corners reducing the amount of string trimming needed. You will also reduce customer complaints because they are less likely to create ruts, or tear things up while making turns. I have standers and they are great for certain properties. If I had to choose a stander or Walk behind I would take the walk behind every day. Another consideration is that turf tracers have a floating deck with rollers that will not scalp when mowing on uneven ground. I watch your videos because it is clear you know what you are doing. I would recommend you giving one a try. They still mow at 7 MPH which is fairly quick.

your mulching crews need to learn to dump piles in the open spots, they spend too much time fighting to dig mulch out of the barrow and that's also going to ruin barrows as the forks hit the bottom crease. they aren't steel barrows which can handle that. i used to be a stucco tender so i've wore down a few shovels and barrows in my 20's they can pitch and distribute and pick loads with the pitch forks from piles easier less fuss, less muss, making easy sweeps instead of bone jarring jabs. as a tender i could literally long stroke cement faster, further and to more volume than they are covering the same ground 3 times faster. it's almost circular windmilling that is less stress and more muscle finesse.

wrenching with kenny. your caliper bolts aren't sliding so basically one side is being sucked into the rotor and doing all the work and heating up the most and causing that bad wear. if you have a bad crew that's a reflection of your reputation on managing your company and it's reputation, reputation is everything, it's easy to lose, and almost impossible to get back. show them all the clients they are losing, that's their paycheck, they don't help other crews cuz they will just cost you more clients and bad reputation....when it gets to a level the other crews can do combined...asta la vista. 99% of a crew comes down to their attitude towards doing things the hard way or top notch, that last 1% is how well you teach/train and supervise them. if you don't have time for that, you don't have time to run a business. set the standards high, play some pitt bull, ..." reach for the stars, cuz if you think about it if they fall, they will fall on top of your girl...." just watched a neighbor with his fence company and his son just knocked up the office secretary....her daddy is performing a shot gun wedding and this girl is gold digging. pray you don't have any daughters. 😅 if you have a new crew you ratchet down on them by being their supervisor on the job every job until you have to leave the job to attend to other issues and you come back and they have completed the job to your satisfaction, then you can tell them you'll let them have more freedom to do what they need to so long as it stays at that quality level, you do the mowing & direct them everything that needs to be done and make it the best quality every time, every place every touch up and primp possible, that way when they slack off again it will be at a better quality level...and if they don't show them the door.

Complaining about your employees is not a good way to go about it. If you have a disdain for your employees, they feel it and act accordingly. Take some of the responsibility and be a better boss and give encouragement, trust and incentive. At the point when you have taken care of your employee lawn, you take out the bad weeds and hire better.

As a business owner I make my guys take before and after pictures and send them in. In your line of work I’d have them send in pics before they leave the site and await approval. Kids these days don’t care and have no pride in their work. Unfortunately constant babysitting and micromanaging is needed. Or you spend more money and hire a manager to babysit them. Good luck.

New here so I don't know the structure/dynamics for them, but if he's having as much trouble as he let's on, and she's as good of a worker as projected, I'd bump her up at least a couple bucks, put her on as a lead, and make it known to that crew, what she says goes when I wasn't around. All employees really only want a few things : a higher wage, an easy work place, and to feel like they're integral. Pay and "promotions" (even if only in title) help meet two of those criteria, and if that person is a good employee/leader they can easily help maintain the structure of efficiency you set for them thus making that "easy workplace" dream a reality when everyone pulls their own. Being fair I don't have alot of experience as an owner, I only have a crew of 4, generally we split in 2 groups, and honestly smaller crews are far easier than large ones, albiet when one person goes down its felt alot more,but I have held trades jobs my entire life and have learned alot from some amazing folks and time and time again it always tends to boil down to those things. I spose not always, but almost.

First, make one of them lead and responsible for quality control. Second, tell them as soon as the rain is done get your ass mowing. We mow in the rain if not too heavy but we have all commercial accts.
@brianf74059 ай бұрын
If you constantly tell the mowing crew to do things and they constantly do NOT follow directions/orders then it’s time for a new mowing crew 🤷♂️ otherwise you have to put someone in charge of them to babysit them which is another person on payroll I’d assume

Allow me to give you a real piece of advice... this is probably the best piece of advice you will ever get from a youtube comment.... seriously... pay attention. I am probably five years older than you and I have worked for a few men who I apprenticed under (I am a tradesman and psuedo engineer) The men that I was fortunate to work for at a very early age taught me a lot. My father was also an incredibly Intelligent and hard working man. (This paragraph is what you need to pay attention to) I should also add that I live in the south... we are different here. This is the very first video I have seen of yours and the title is IMMEDIATELY offputting. If this is your livelihood you should NEVER, EVER, say that it is all your employees fault. You do understand that your employees see the things that you post here right? This isn't tough love or a learning lesson... You are embarrassing and making a spectacle of their shortcomings and overall not understanding. You cant fault a young person for not understanding. Young folks today arent as fortunate because they probably didn't have a wise gentleman or FATHER to show them the way. If you want something done a certain way YOU need to get out there and PHYSICALLY SHOW THEM. Don't say "quit turning around in the same spot" If one of my bosses were to post something like this you can bet your rear that I would do the least amount of work if I even worked at all.... At the end of the day this is YOUR BUISNESS CORRECT? Snap out of it, it's ALL YOUR FAULT. Get your head out of where it is. If you know EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND THIS. If you take the time to actually TEACH a couple young folks that knowledge will spread. How can you expect someone to "manage" your negligence? Btw you can tell that young lady that she can come on down here and actually learn a trade that will pay her four times what she makes with you. She has initiative. I wouldnt expect a truck driver to know the first thing about anything. And buy new calipers because they are dirty? Give the girl $80 to take a wire brush and brake cleaner to them real quick... save you $100. Buckle up dude, when your buisness fails its all YOUR FAULT.

Thank you! BUT, our crew is fully told about thumbnail, title and story of every episode, and able to watch videos before we post them if they want. If there is anything they don't want in there about themselves, I take it out. This channel is for entertainment. Thank you for the awesome comment though!

Give them one last warning and if no changes fire them start over and make one of the new hires in charge. At this point those two both have the same bad habits. Probally a good chance they are just rushing thru the jobs doing shitty work to get out earlier than if they did things the right way

Sometimes babysitting for a day or two is enough incentive to do better. Nobody wants to be micro managed. Some just fall to the negs, and i dont think I've ever seen an employee come back from that. If they're mentally clocked out than their as good as done. Just stalling till they get fired.
