Hey Cole, I'm a retired dairy farmer that has also run a lawn care company for the past 33 years. For just seeding your lawn last fall, its really looking good. The weeds really are no big deal, like you said 24D will take care of most of them. As for crabgrass, you wouldn't see any yet. It dies out every fall and it probably its just beginning to germinate now in your area. You will see a lot of it lot of it later on because of the new seeding. Early next spring spray the lawn with a pre emerge crabgrass control. Good luck, any questions let me know.

I'd hit the weedy area with some Trimec in a sprayer. Another idea is with the blue grass mix some rye grass seed with it...rye germinates in 2-3 days where the blue grass takes weeks. The rye will hold your soil and will eventually get overrun by the blue grass.

Hey used to work at a sod farm here in Oklahoma and my boss would use Dawn dish soap at a ratio of about 3 gallons per teaspoon. For broadleaf weeds prior to him spraying 2 4D. He would do this twice in a week prior to Spring the 24d. Definitely will say this kills a good 40% of the weeds prior to the harsh chemicals, it works Definitely gives the chemicals advantage
@bobk38403 жыл бұрын
Mow mow mow frequently will really thicken that grass. That plus weeds don’t care to be mowed and will die out eventually. Mowing is just as important as the fertilizer

You should see my "front yard" right now lol. We finally got moved out here to our 10 acres. My front yard is thorns right now because well, there is a tree I have to cut to get the brush hog in there to clear our pad out. But before that I have an rv to move because my brother's house is stuck on the road in. Which is just a path right now lol. Right now we are parked just outside the trees looking over a hillside which is a beautiful view but not our permanent location. You've done a beautiful job turning that place around. Love your videos. Can't wait to start a garden here. But that may be next year due to how late we are getting here and I still need tractor attachments! It all takes time right!

Key to your lawn is to mow often. Weeds don't like it, but the grass will thrive and put out more rizomes.
@drekfletch3 жыл бұрын
Alternately, mow less so that the grass is able to establish an extensive root system to feed the grass when it is mowed. Also not getting hung up on a desire for monoculture lawns is a great option.
@elizabethgriffin94343 жыл бұрын
Get a post emergent for the weeds and spray. Don't mow the grass low. A healthy lawm needs to stay a bit taller to spread and choke out the weeds. Once the grass is thick and established then you can cut lower.

What would work perfect Cole would be a starter fertilizer with Mesotrione. That would stop the crabgrass and most of the broadleaves. That is not crabgrass that you saw, crabgrass is an annual that germinates when the soil temperature is more than a continuous 50 degrees for several days in a row.

Since your broad leaf weeds will pop up taller than the grass, maybe rig up a wick system for the mover or an ATV and hit them that way. Less stress on the grass, less competition from the weeds = better established grass by the time winter arrives.

Spray with mesotrione. It will allow you to overseed, will kill existing weeds, and is also a pre-emergent. Spray again in 28 days. 2.4-D will not kill the weedy grasses, and will mess with any overseeding you do. Mesotrione is also known as Tenacity. I sprayed a few days ago and I'm already seeing results. Good luck!
