My Wife works with Honey and bee pollen. If your allergies bother you get some local Bee pollen Capsules. They really help but I have been told they have to be from your area to cover the things that cause your issues. The honey is good for you and we love it. I live in Eastern NC. Not too terribly different from your area. The bee pollen really helps a lot of people. They have it all natural but it doesn’t taste that good so we use the capsules. Hope this helps you!

Best money I've spent for bush hogging is a hygraulic top link. It works great on my New Holland TN75 and Bush Hog 3308. You can pick the rear wheels up to cut up a slope and lower them way down to cut down a slope. Generally the link stays fully extended with the wheels on the ground and all the weight on the lift arms. Of course you do need rear hydraulic remotes.

I hit the blades about every eight hours because I just do it quickly with a grinder which also means I have to go under there and look. That has lead me to replacing big lots and removing a lot of wire and old fence. Also my Toro 72" has always slid with out any feeling that it is going over on a 2 to 1 or 45 degree slope. And never do what I do. I have rolled both a tractor and an excavator. In no case I was surprised. Digging for rescue or recovery on a mountain land slide.

Have you tried to mow the bank with your toplink disconnected from the top pin of your cutter? The dealer mentioned that for me to try and it works great, esp for backing down the pond bank... the cutter 'rides' on the rear wheel and 2 lower links of the tractor and will follow the downward slope of the bank without all the raising and lowering of the 3pt arms.

You can take the top link completely off and the bushhog will just ride the breakover. Or use a chain as a top link with some slack if you need to pick it all the way up for some reason. I live on a pond with much steeper bank in the foothills of NC and thats how most ppl around here use a bushhog. Too many hills and gulleys to have a top link or yould bend the frame or at least the brace arms

@PineyGroveHomestead no my brush cutter is made by tar river. It has a pivot link but it's only 3.5 inches from pin to bolt so it isn't nearly enough for all the hills and gulleys we have. Been a while since I last communicated with you. Two things on your pond mowing. Have you ever looked into a hydraulic rotary mower for your excavator? I have the MTL mower and a Prinoth mulcher for my Kubota KX057-5. This is a great combination for working rough, sloping, and/or tight terrain. MTL for grass and small brush and mulcher for heavy duty big brush terrain. Also, You ought to consider adding a canopy to your tractor. Sure makes a difference in this Florida heat.

I sharpen every few years whether it needs it or not. I handle slopes the same way. I mow as far as I can fee comfortable "long ways first" then when I am backing up and pulling up I don't have to go as far and not leave unmown patches. Now that I have a hydrostatic drive, this is much easier to do. Much less pucker factor when you don't have to take it out of gear on a slope. Great work!

I bush hogged for over 40 years before father time and a rough life caught up with me and left it to my sons and grand sons. I have three rotary cutters, two Land Prides and a Woods 10' pull behind. My starting point is to "usually" go by the manual, no "sharp" edge blades factory profile with the leading edge of the blades about an inch lower than trailing edge. This uses less horsepower. As you noted circumstances will dictate changes in blade sharpness; used them all. As to sharpening I go with as needed. We have farms in the flat-lands as well as hills and most use Woods 15' bat-wing mowers so you can see the blades it's hard to imagine how they cut. As to cab vs open station the best is both if possible. Breathing issues put me in a cab tractor but we own several open stations. I fully understand going with an open station.
@comlbbeau

My pond banks are a bit steeper than yours, and due to neck issues it's pure agony for me to back my Bush Hog around the edges, so I go low and slow with my gear-drive MX4700 laterally around the edges, getting within about two feet of the water's edge, four-wheel drive, and using differential braking if I need it. I can see with a cab tractor the higher center of gravity would make me very nervous, for sure. I use a weedeater a couple of times a year to take care of the edges. It's a lot of work, but definitely worth it!

The way the question is asked in the title is somewhat open ended, so the honest answer is yes, absolutely, but the realistic answer is only if you throw money at it. There are sickle bar mowers, offset flail mowers, and boom mowers, not to mention, a Ventrac and another way to deal with it, is a bat wing pull type rotary cutter. So the real question becomes how much money you would like to throw at the problem.
