for upping medical: replace prisoners feet with wooden feet, then replace legs with wooden pegs, and you can actually remove wooden legs and keep putting them back on to continue upping medical. you do have a chance of failing and hurting the prisoner or even killing them, but if you don't want the prisoner in the first place that doesn't really matter. oh and if you leave off one of the legs, the prisoner will stay in bed and then they cant have mental breaks. healroot only needs level 8 plants to be able to grow, and your pawn is at level 5, you just needs to do a little more leveling and you can get a good source of herbal medicine. you can also look around the map to see if any wild healroot has spawned and if so that can be harvested at any level of plants. you should also think about walling off your planting areas and making them not roofed in to protect them from animals for upping social: you can just continuously reduce a prisoners resistance even after its hit zero. for pemmican: it can be made from any edible meat (including milk) and any edible plant and lasts for 70 days when not refrigerated for colonists:try to avoid people who cant do dumb labor as that means they cant cut plants, haul, or clean. also as you get more and more colonists your colony's wealth will increase, which will mean more and harder raids and such. also try to avoid people with addictions or chemical interests as a withdrawal from an addiction is a serious mood penalty, which will very quickly lead to problems.

Tips here for clarification: 1:45 Permanent summer also means that you are in infinite growing season, meaning that you never have to live off of crop storage in fear of running out of food. It makes the food survival aspects of the game trivial. You always have a near-guaranteed crop if it won't just randomly freeze due to an early cold front. 1:50 Staying warm is easier than cooling off except in special circumstances (Ice sheet). Staying cool is very hard if a *naked* colonist is still overheating (this happens in extreme deserts or during heat waves in regular deserts and rarely in shrubland) You have to acquire things like cowboy hats and dusters to stay cool-er than naked (broke back mountain logic) 1:25 Pemmican is *not* a good food source. It is highly inefficient. It's only good for food storage for tribal tech who don't have access to refrigeration or for caravans who can't refrigerate. The other exception I can think of would be when you have far too much meat and it's filling up your freezer, or an event disabled your power. 5:30 You correctly surmised that he brought the chunks with him when he was sleepy. In the "final" patch for release, they updated it so that colonists will do a quick search for nearbye items that need hauling close to their destination when they go to perform a task. 10:21 6 in construction is not "very very strong" it's par for the course. Usually 5 is considered "Ok" and 10 is considered strong in a skill, and 15+ is very strong. 10:55 The Ibex are eating the cotton. You need to build fencing of some kind if you want to keep animals out of your fields. Also, keep your cows out of your fields too. 16:10 Don't treat wounds in the dark. It vastly reduces quality which, for infections, vastly increases the chance of the person not living through their infection. 24:55 One of the easiest ways to lose early is to pursue smokeleaf before you can defend your base effectively. Smokeleaf drastically raises the value of the colony which attracts large, well-armed raids.

@@Sgtassburgler Its random. Its one of the rarer events [as rare as anything can be with Randy Random]. Its one of the harder events cause an infestation popping up inside your base can easily lead to a wipe since they hit like trucks and the confined, close quarters of a base make it very hard to deal with them. Also, on Infestations, outside of building fridges, if you make 'caves' inside other mountains, you can lower the chance of an infestation popping up in your base as it will randomize where they come up, so by making artificial caves, they can spawn in them instead which is considerably better then spawning in your base.

Two tips I can give you. Giving your colonists a schedule. How I usually set it up is 7 hours of sleep (because most of the time they sleep till they are fully rested anyway) 3 hours of recreation and 2 before they go to bed, then I just have the rest as work. It usually works really well for me. I also love the nutrient dispenser, it uses less food each meal, you don't need a cook thus removing the annoyance of food poisoning. And the small cost of mood is so worth it. I would highly recommend you using it as food. I hope these two very basic tips will help you survive the harsh Rimworld :D Also I am very much enjoying your videos so keep up the great work :3

@@ambiguousamphibian Blood and vomit definitely cause the room to become dirty, as does the floor being dirt (a dirt floor tile has a dirt factor of -.06 clean); Rather unintuitively, however, rough stone, and dirt, cannot get dirty from tracking dirt onto the tile. This means that the easiest way to not be cleaning constantly is to not construct floors and just build on rough stone. Not quite sure if generated trash occurs on dirt and rough stone tiles... Blood is the big one, though, and why you need to keep the butchering and kitchen separate.

I build walls out of wood with doors every 5 spaces or so, stretch them from hill to hill. Just cordon off your immediate farming area first. Then set a zone for inside the walls and use it for pet animals (especially bonded), also nice to have this zone for manhunter packs you want to ignore. Eventually you can build more sections of wall to cordon and control more areas of the map.

Since you mentioned Nutrient Paste, here's a rundown on it. It's a big building, so it counts as a wall. It's really good at being insulation, so you can stick between your fridge and a room with a chair, sometimes I build my prison next to my fridge in case my social pawns forget to feed them. Also each hopper counts as a seperate stockpile. Pawns can tell if it is insect meat.

I would have shortened the way to the deconstruction area at the east of the base. There was only one mountain rock to mine in order to avoid him to go all around the small mountain south east. Also u could micromanage a bit more. Right click on a task so he will start one task, then hold shift and right click on other tasks and he will perform them in the order you've clicked them while holding shift down. That way you could have deconstruct the entire wall and floor east of your base in one go. Saw your colonist do the walk around the south east corner mountain twice for only one deconstruction per walk. That's making him losing a lot of time he could be doing things...

If you're doing a building project that requires steel, wood, stoneblocks, etc. you should make a small stockpile RIGHT NEXT to where the building project is, set it to critical priority and allow only the building materials you need, you can also do several different spots if you need multiple supplies. Shortens the time builders take to haul materials to the blueprint from their normal stockpile. Then just delete the stockpiles once the structure is completed.

When you're confident your defenses can handle raids for you, you can simply call your colonists inside and then forbid the exits. That way they can get things done inside the base while your traps mow raiders down, and you don't have to worry about them getting out and hurt.

Im pretty sure, unless they changed this recently and I wasnt paying attention, doors still block temperature changes even when forbidden open. Dont take my word though, test it and see if thats the case! (its been a small while since ive played on the newest patch, doors used to block temp changes no matter what)

Oh yeah last video I think no one mentioned that it would probably be good to train some hauling animals when you find some that can haul items. Then you'll spent less time doing the hauling yourself.

Squirrel meat from the country tastes better than rabbit in my opinion. They eat a lot more acorns, nuts, and seeds that give them that slight sweet nutty flavor to combat the gaminess

You are doing pretty well for a new player, many of these tips here are really useful especially about the nutrient dispenser (you can get many meals out at once if you forbid a meal next to the dispenser and draft and undraft a pawn (google it for better explanation)). But what I would add is your killbox (you call it a hallway), 1. enemies don't see traps 2. keep your straight hallway door open with the button and close it when you want enemies to go through your traps. Doors are really slow and it would speed things up alot and also make sure that you never walk through your own traps (nor your animals. 3. You can make another corner in there so that it bends back, allows for more traps and raiders will still go through as long as the first door is open so that they think they can walk in without resistance. 4. Keep your first door open so raiders think they have a clear path through your killbox as they dont see the traps. Seems dangerous but then they won't attack other doors and walls where you do not want them to break through.

also if you build them a proper bed it makes them comfortable and less prone to snap and finally if they do go crazy at the moment the prisoner would have access to the weapons you are keeping in the rooms with the doors left open

If you do a two wide hallway with zigzagging spike traps, it much safer for your colonist to walk through that as they will zigzag between the spike traps, while raiders will walk in a straight line, hitting some traps.

Thanks for the tip MME! I saw a configuration like this previously and I might give it a try! I've practiced with a few of these configurations and currently feel the most comfortable with this one, though hopefully we'll have time for it once we have more specialized workflow ^.^
@Mewtwomaster58
@Mewtwomaster58 4 жыл бұрын
@@ambiguousamphibian With your current configuration, you could do trap, sandbag, trap, sandbag, but in order to ensure colonist safety, each trap should have a door on the inner wall so you can replace the trap via the door and not the spiked hallway. I have had very unfortunate accidents with colonists and spike traps before, and it'd be awful if something happened to Lee!

Old screenshot, but this dead-fall trap design should work if you scale it down for the size of your base. i.gyazo.com/87ebbc0be56c19e32852e8dcf2eebb88.png Since you are playing on Merciless, prioritizing defense and security is paramount to your survival. There are some great dead-fall funnel designs that you could use in order to survive; but mind you that dead-fall funnels don't work against sieges, drop pod raids, infestations or sapper raids. You won't know if a raid is a sapper raid unless you read the flavor text for the event whenever you click the raid icon. A lot of these events will be happening more towards the end-game once your colony has matured to a significant degree, I'd still keep a look out for them though. Later-game colonies tend to have the capacity to lay defensive sentries and hold-out positions all over the place so it's not as much of a problem for them. You will want to prioritize gathering a few stacks of herbal medicine to store in your stockpile zone. Herbal medicine is vital for your colonies survival in early game, since Randy will be sending awful things at you at random times. You need at least herbal medicine to survive certain situations and avoid infection. You'll want to have a dedicated room that you keep clean and isn't a hallway or walkway for your pawns or animals as your hospital bed or hospital room. Hallways end up getting really dirty, another reason why you don't want your kitchen to be a hallway to another room either. I suggest chopping through that forest until your plants skill has reached max exp gain speed for the day and then moving on to using that wood and spamming copies of wooden single pawn beds in order to train his construction and produce some normal quality beds for use in your prison/hospital/bedrooms. Infections are deadly. You will want to prepare for them when the time comes, which, technically, that could be any time.

You really should smoothen the flooring since it makes it better looking for him. And put as much light in your mountain bases. The higher the light level the lower the chances of a infestation, so maybe even make a room that you're fine with becoming infested if it does.

@@ambiguousamphibian Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the reply xD Anyway, the most common way to build a kill box would be this: ibb.co/7J0J3WS ibb.co/1m6MgTZ The first image shows the "clean" version of the kill box (I made a new vanilla game because it seems like you're playing vanilla), size of the box, distance from the funnel, amount of traps and etc. are all your choice but the general idea is to have a maze filled with either traps to kill and/or sandbags/stone chunks to slow down the enemy to give you time to prepare, lead them into a funnel and then essentially a firing range for your colonists. Obviously if you installed the embrasures mod (ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=42179.0) you can replace the sandbags protecting your colonists with it for extra protection but that's your choice. How this works (and if this works) is showcased in the second image, where you can see very dead raiders inside the trap maze, I'm sure you already know but the AI always tries to take the most direct unobstructed route to your colonists, the maze being the most "unobstructed" route available (due to being the ONLY route available), they run straight into the traps and.... well, die. Mind you this won't work if you get sappers because they'll either break through the mountain to get to you or be smarter and break through the wall, raiders coming from drop pods also circumvent this defense for obvious reasons, hope I helped! :D PS. The reason why the raider went for your door instead of going through the hallway of death is because your colonist is inside a building, the raider has no direct route to the colonist so the raider sees that there's traps on the hallway and goes for the door instead. (yes they're dumb but a biiit smart)
