Keep the Rhino! It’ll probably be the best means of defense you’ll get for a long time, and despite how strong traps are they can’t run at your enemy’s with the ferocity, and most importantly the Impact, of a grey freighttrain. Also, call him „Warrior Unicorn“

1. All stone traps take gajillion years to build, so just don't. Steel is better compromise between damage and construction speed, but much more valuable resourse than stone, so don't spam steel traps. Early on, stick to wooden ones, don't waste precious metal you can use for building freezer and wind turbines. Also, don't bother with restricting doors in trap area - your pawns and livestock don't walk on them if there's other possible way to walk. 2. Giving Schwartz an artificial jaw was a better choice since it's an artificial part and doesn't slow him down. But what done is done. 3. Smoothing floors and walls are way to make rooms nice and grind construction skill without using any materials. 4. It was too painfull to watch Red wandering without ability to reach sleeping spot to be tended, please don't make innocent bulls suffer for no reason. 5. Moopal is the name for the calf. 6. Rhinos are one of the tankiest animals in the game, similar to megasloths and elephants, but require handling skill of 8 to maintain their tameness, so you can use him as a tanking animal with the help of a zone restriction trick untill he becomes wild, or just find a colonist to handle him well and train him in release. He doesn't eat your food until you let him, keep that in mind. 7. Having a clear and beautiful environment helps a lot with the mood, so dedicate one of the colonist to clear before doing anything else, but be carefull with homezone. 8. Don't make parkas, they cover only upper half of a body that makes pawns unhappy nude anyway, make dusters instead: a) they cover full body b) you will never need parkas on your map since it's permament summer, but heat waves are pretty common on this type of biom and dusters protect you from heat. 9. Any kind of leather, even lightleather and even patchleather, is better for protection in sharp and blunt factors. Use cloth only if you don't have any other option and really can't wait because of weather conditions - heat wave or cold snap and your pawn is literally losing consciousness due to heat or losing toes and ears to frostbites. -6 nudity debuff is bearable untill you make any kind of duster or even crappy tribalwear. 10. It will be much better laborwise to make a big corn field on a rich soil and harvest it once in 15 days and have like a million units of corn than constantly resowing small rice field in a distance. In general, don't rely on rice only - plant corn on normal/rich soil or potatoes on gravel together with a regular rice on standart or rich soil. 11. Healroot. It's Randy, you'll need it. A lot. 12. Stonecutter table, time to make one and begin producing bricks. Raiders like to see your colony burn to nothing. GL and have fun.

Stone: Slate is just the lightest. Its kind of a meh stone. I like the dark look though. Granite is the strongest of the stone. Limestone is second strongest. Marble is the prettiest and so best for statues. Sandstone is the easiest to build with.

A few things - There is an option on the bottom right to view natural roofed areas (it will give green colors). Light green will mean light roofing, and dark green signifies overhead mountain. You can use this to shave down a mountain area while avoiding overhead mountain tiles. - Heat does transfer through open doors, however if you have complete wall coverage the heat will transfer inefficiently. Think of a space heater in a room with the door open. Outside the room will be cooler, however some of the heat from the heater will bleed out. For this reason, airlocks for temperature sensitive rooms (such as fridges in hot environments) can be a power saver. To do this, simply have two doors leading out of the room with a space between the doors and walls running to the sides of the doors. - Don't ignore hat benefits. Cowboy hats help a lot with the heat. Bowlers help with social skill for recruiters and buyers. Making hats out of tougher material (such as rhino leather) can be a lifesaver. If you're unsure of the material's stats, they can be easily inspected in the material's info screen. - Wood is a fine material for traps for now. When you start getting mechs and power armor raiders the wood traps will do nothing. Steel is a great material, but valuable. Generally you want a few really great constructors by end game to churn out marble traps (which take aaaaages to build, but can make sense if you have the right crew). If you don't have the labor time for stone traps, and wood trap aren't working, then you should try to fast research deep drilling for extra steel. - I recommend the Work Tabs mod. It's not really needed for two colonists, however it allows much deeper control of job priorities as your colony grows. Being able to have non constructors deliver resources to construction projects (for example) is a huge help. - I'm not sure your medical skill is good enough to cure the plague from the rhino, but I guess it's worth trying :)

Raiders determine a "shortest path" to your base's core and follow that. It's a bit of a black box, but walls are just seen as a 'longer path' not a true obstacle. If it's faster to dig through a weak wooden wall then go around, they'll do that. It's best to use the hardest rock available to you (typically slate) for your exterior/defensive walls. This especially matters for those 'snake' style trap halls. You cannot keep adding on u-turns, because the raiders will essentially get fed up and punch through instead.
@TouchTheShark
@TouchTheShark 4 жыл бұрын
While this is true, I've had some absurdly long wooden snakes before they start punching through. When it starts to get long just make a stone shell on the outside at places punching through might bypass the snake.
@WoofChaqueJour
@WoofChaqueJour 4 жыл бұрын
Thats only true with sappers, Raiders will always go even the longest way if the path to your base is open. Sappers on the otherhand will avoid traps and turrets and do whatever the fuck they want.
@rustyshackleford1508
@rustyshackleford1508 4 жыл бұрын
All of you are half right and half wrong because raiders look for the "cheapest" (least effort involved) path into the base that is *not covered by turrets* and their lines of fire. They are looking for beds specifically and sappers ignore the requirement for the "cheapest" route and instead look for the most direct route. Raids also have a hidden time limit whereupon the raiders will simply abscond with whatever resources they can grab, prioritizing the most expensive. Leaving expensive resources out in the open in the stockpiles will make absconding with them much "cheaper" than attempting to break into the base. You can actually have a system of "paying tribute" to raiders this way.

@ambiguosamphibian - Tip :) 25:20 If you leave 1 hour of sleeping on the schedule ( at the end of the day so pawns don't get some crazy scheadules ) they will go to sleep when they are tired and fill their needs as they require. If you keep 8 hours of sleep they sometimes oversleep to stay on schedule when they could be working. This happens more often once you start getting better quality beds and they need less time to get a full energy sleep bar.

As for your question about length of video... I will say I care about content over length. Play the game as much as YOU enjoy it. if you play enough to give us 1 hour of content but only want to put out 30 min videos.. release 2 of them. but PLEASE for the love of all things positive, don't do what another player I watch did. Don't take a normally 30 min video and make it longer by leaving in stuff normally edited out, just to make some people happy. Doing so will most likely drive viewers away. Ultimately play/release/edit how YOU ENJOY doing things. If you cater to peoples wants instead, you will start to stop enjoying doing this one day. Look at all the youtube burnouts that tried to make people happy instead. truly sorry, that was way longer then I originally intended.

Hey Man! I really enjoy your series! Good work! On the subject of knives vs. clubs, all has its purpose. With sharp weapons you have more chance to kill someone faster (cuts, blood loss, infections) but with blunt weapons you have more chance to capture someone (beating unconscious with mostly bruises). If you ask me, nothing can beat a uranium mace. And you always should build in a lit room or outside at daylight because manipulation percantage is reduced in darkness with a result of poor furniture quality.

after an animal has tamed, choosing to slaughter it will not trigger revenge (the animal trusts you, you sneak up on it no chance for revenge) animals are pretty strong, I'd try to keep 'em until you had to eat 'em. you can set up a zone just past the spike area where you can send your "excess" animals like the gazelle. this way they are your last line of defense before the colonists, and don't have to be trained to "release". I'd say keep the rhino. rhino's can be used as pack animals IIRC (may be getting that mixed up with elephants) and have a fair attack stat for a pack animal which may be useful if you start venturing out of your colony. I vote you name the calf "Hamburger"

This takes a lot of time especially with low skill but if you find time for it you can eventually train them to haul making up for the fact you have 1 colonist this will save you a lot of time in the future for when your grabbing things a little farther from your base it also frees up more time for lee to be doing other tasks while the animals haul. But if you were trying to mess with the guy by purposefully lying to him about the effects then shame on you. Also smokeleaf gives more debuffs than psychite tea so he'd be dealing with slower moving, hungrier, and less consious colonists while the effects are active. Smokeleaf has a market value 1 unit higher than psychite tea, and increases appetite, reduces focus and slows movement. Psychite tea would certainly be better were it not for the chance to become addicted. You can fill in Parts by Building walls and then insects wont spawn in those areas anymore. And as mentioned here before you can not only smooth walls but also floor for a nicer room if you dont want to put down proper floor yet. Smooth floor will also give you a better speed bonus than rough floor. If you got a new colonist anyway and don't know what to do with him yet. Smoothing floors is always my go to construction training method.

Okay, a few things I have to mention despite not being able to watch the whole video at the moment. 1: colonists work slower in the dark. This applies to every task/workstation as far as I know. A torch inside will help speed things up. 2: heat does transfer through open doors, just not instantly or with full temperature. 3: wood spike traps are exceptionally effective on basically all targets. The only thing that really tanks through them is a dude in power armour or a centipied and by the time you encounter those you should already have turrets and/or colonists with guns set for your killbox and instead the spike traps will just compliment them rather than being the whole defense. 4: as far as I know, the social skill gets used the compliment and talk with other colonists in addition to its other functions. 5: if you can spare the materials to make one and the mood debuff, nutrient paste dispensers are extremely efficient. No risk of food poisoning, excellent resource to meal ratio, and nobody has to spend time cooking. They don't work for every colony, but damn are they good when they do.

Infestation - Will happen with a 100% chance as long as you have " overhead mountain " in the description of the tooltip when you point at places inside stone and... The temperature is above -17.0 degrees Celsius. The infestations will happen more frequently if the room have no light and its used for either storage or its dirty.

Need to build light in all the rooms. A torch in your dining room will keep your flowers alive longer and will fight the "in darkness" mood debuff. Also light will make them work faster, so one in your butchery would help. West (left) of the butchers table in the room would be a great spot for the light as it is a void space that isn't used.

heat do spread. Vents connect rooms so they share heat more efficiently, but ultimately even closed room will transfer heat. For instance, it's not a good idea to build a fridge next to a generator room. You'll have a harder time heating next to a cold room and cooling next to a hot room. If you need to, you can insulate by building thicker walls, 2 blocks thickness is enough in my experience.

a challenge that I did a while back animal fight only!. you can only use animals to fight raids, bandits. etc. you can still hunt with guns and such. (or not even allowed to use any weapons if you're nuts) id recommend getting some starting animals like maybe 2 or so boars and then work yourself up from the starting two.

Tip: this is a method to walk through your death corridors while also being efficient with both spacing and traps. Uh so basically; give your death corridors a two-tile vertical spacing, and spread your traps out like a chess board. So uh.. say you put your traps at the top of the corridor on the black tiles, well you'd then have to put some traps at the bottom of the corridor on the white tiles... lol without pictures I can't quite explain it, but basically..if you follow this method correctly, there should be a TINY space between each trap (one a npc/ai player can't take advantage of) that will allow you to walk through the corridor and past the deadly traps. It's handy for repairing the traps, and ensuring the enemy ai don't bash down the doors instead of walking into he traps. Also good because you can fit a TON of traps in there, using a lot less space.

Heat 100% goes through open doors, it's just that there isn't much of a temperature differential to push it. Heat is surprisingly complicated in this game, even taking into account thermal conductivity of different materials. For instance, a freezer room with 2-thick stone walls will use waaaay less energy to stay frozen than a 1-thick wooden-walled freezer. It even matters what the temperature outside the freezer is, so some players chill the walls from the outside (this still being within a mountain typically, so a small space is dug out between the freezer and the rest of the mountain) passively to reduce power usage by the cooler.

in the unlikely event the rhino survives the plague he is a great addition, his strong skin allows him to tank a lot and you can train the doctor on him after the raids. He can easily takr 4 raiders by himself and feeds on grass. If you slaughter your pets they never get aggressive. Finally 20-25 minutes is my sweet spot

I know this is pretty late but... put slag chunks between the traps when u get a ranged weapon, when invaders climb over them they are slowed and if there is a space between each one then they spend time climbing it each time, plus it isn’t considered a trap by the ai.

There is actually a damage-type system in this game and also weapon choices have distinct flavors to them. The club is pretty bad, slow and heavy but it is cheap and effective. It is a blunt weapon so it basically ignores the armor in well-armored enemies like robots or kevlar and tough jackets. It's also a nice weapon to have when downing prisoners since they would just fall down bruised and not cut; similarly, its also good when you're trying to get prisoners so you don't have to worry about treating stab wounds and risking infection in the field. The knife is a sharp weapon. Its attack speed is very fast; the best situation it's in is when you're chasing down fleeing raiders. It's decent in melee but its damage falls off quite quickly when the opponent has a nicer armor like kevlar and jackets. Personally, I'm a fan of blunt weapons more. But I prefer sticking to maces instead of clubs. Speaking of melee, you might be interested in the pila. It's the only weapon in the game that can function as an effective close-quarters weapon and a short ranged weapon. It's inaccurate but once it hits, you can literally blow limbs off an opponent. Might be a useful weapon for Lee in the short run when he has that melee and shooting passion.

@ambiguosamphibian 13:00 : ) - Heat does go thru rooms but a slower rate thru doors. Faster when the door is open and slower when the door is closed. Temperature is also exchanged between walls. If you want to see it more in detail you can use a mod called heatmap, it shows you visually whats happening with temperature. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=947972722
