Mowing wet grass or a wet and swamp like lawn is never a fun thing...but when you have inches of rain for days on end sometimes there's not much that can be done to avoid it. I use my lightest Honda mower and get in there and get out as fast as possible. I also discuss so many updates going on around the lawn. We look at my kentucky bluegrass, organic weed spray results, and why my liquid iron apps don't seem to be making a huge difference.

Wow your lawn is more wet than mine, crazy! Mowing is so difficult because twice a week isnt enough to keep up with growth, but trying to find a day it's not raining to get out there is tough. I've been breaking the 1/3rd rule a lot more than I'd like to lately. Weird spring this year. At least everything is super green from all the rain! You @ 6:19 lol that's me. I need a monostand of kbg I think lol.

Ryan in Michigan, the Detroit area, we're having the same problem. If we go two days without rain it's a surprise. All our Lakes are like four in higher than last season. Could that be the reason I'm having so much layover on my lawn. I have turf type tall fescue I cut it four inches. Super thick. And every time I step on the lawn and wants to lay there. I had some fungus problems but they seem to be gone. I cut twice a week. I've even cut it down to three and a half and I still have it. Remember how you fixed that in your backyard? Thanks for everything bro. Love the show

I've mentioned before that I've got the same thing going on and my color is off, perhaps because of the lack of N, which has been flushed, but also because of the low temps and lack of sunlight, and all the rain causing fungal like issues.. I put down LCN 2x dose of fungi on the front, and it's still got dollar spot and yellowing in certain areas, and not getting green pop, whereas some areas are super nice and blue-green. It's so frustrating, but I think we ride it out, develop the soil and push those nutrients back in slowly. I've seen some results after 2 days without water, but it's crazy and temps are still not super hot by any means. Keep pushin' on!

Ryan we’ve experienced similar weather here in central Ohio as well. Probably around the same amount of rain fall in past month. So I went through the same horrible wet mowing conditions. Then I put down a nice dose of “Double Dark” in my back using N-ext products and didn’t get result I wanted, got a fungus out of it actually. So nice to hear that little clip there about not seeing the dark green as we expected. Thanks for the info and of course Go Tribe! 😂

That dark blue green patch in your backyard is a concentration of Midnight Bluegrass in one spot. My yard has it in much bigger swaths, this is why simply getting it blended isn’t good enough if the blend ends up imbalanced when spread out.

Ryan, thanks for the video! A few questions though: 1) Will you be applying a plant growth regulator so you don't need to mow so often when it's wet? Curious to know your thoughts on T-NEX. 2) Do you typically put down a preventative fungicide since you mentioned you tend to get fungus in the back lawn?
@ryanknorrlawncare
@ryanknorrlawncare 5 жыл бұрын
I use tnex on the front yard but not on the longer cut backyard. I use the clippings from that backyard in the garden so I don't want to use any regulators. No preventative for basically the same reason.

Have you thought about finding some kind of groundcover you can live with to plant by the creek? If you remove all the foliage you will have erosion. Grass may not be enough to keep it pinned down. There are some groundcovers you can mow when they get too out of hand.

@ryanknorrlawncare 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not removing it all...just that little section closest to the grass. Believe it or not, that grows to be about 8 feet tall by august and it started to invade the lawn. It's hard to mow against and bugs are crazy so I'm just thinning that area a bit right next to the grass.

6 years in the business. I have some tips on cutting wet gras. 1. Don’t. Seriously if there is sun in the forecast give it another day or two. You can make wheel ruts if the soil is soft. 2. Sharpen your blades. Sharp blades always make a mow go smoother. 3. Mow slow. Wet grass is very heavy. The mower needs more time to lift, cut, and process the wet grass. This cut is going to take you 2-3x longer than normal. 4. Empty your bag frequently. The mower can’t fill the bag with wet grass. If you don’t empty frequently you will be digging out the discharge shoot by hand. 5. If you have a rotary mower spray the bottom of the deck with Pam cooking spray. It helps keep the grass from sticking. 6. Don’t. Don’t mow wet grass if you can help it. I’d rather mow long dry grass than normal length wet grass.

I noticed my lawn along with surrounding neighbors grass is going to seed. Is that a bad thing and should it be cut just below the seeds? Thanks!

Just keep cutting the seeds off and it will stop that phase in a week or two

Beaut video as always. Love the letterboxing and the fill shots! First, is lawn trying to breathe, or is it just the sound of I water flow down the hill towards the creek? Second, along those lines, is drainage better in front due to sand and soil leveling along with low cut versus the back with the medium cut and unleveled/sloped surface? WIN TWINS!!!

The yard was doing that everywhere so I don't think it was a runoff issue....I've heard it before as well when rain completely saturates the soil for days and days. No sand in the front yet but I am really fine in most areas except that fenced area in the southern corner of the backyard

First Aussie 😁 It is a shame about all that rain, nice striping out the front. 😁👍👍That flamingo is slowly making its way back to Florida.

I have the exact same issue. I was literally just googling it. We have gotten so much rain it’s crazy. I went from a nice deep green lawn to splotchy dark green and lime and I’m frustrated. I don’t see any spotting or red thread either :(

I also have a honda - and its a lot of fuckin work and kinda miserable but if its really wet I take the bag off and do rear discharge and then go over it again with mulch mode and it keeps the deck from clogging

One of the biggest issues (for me) is how much you track up the yard when it’s that’s wet

I have that same Honda Mower. I paid an extra $50 for the Honda Motor and not the Briggs motor. Sucks that you have to get rid of your clippings in a muck pit.
