I am back to report that since making my first comment I have listened to several other recordings of this symphony, and no one comes close to the soaring, inspiring festivity that Herbert Blomstedt does here. I can imagine Mozart himself conducting it this way. Moreover, Mr. Blomstedt for me transforms the categorization of this symphony. He moves it out of its typical grouping with Nos. 31 and 33 and puts it in the same league with the Haffner and the Linz. In his hands, it's the beginning of Mozart's late symphonies. THANK YOU AGAIN so much for posing this. Without this version, I might never have realized what a wonderful, engaging symphony this is.

Herbert Blomstedt and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra submit a strong case that Mozart's series of grand concluding symphonies begin not with No. 35, but with No. 34. Every note elevates me.

He seems in a rush, there's more character and expression in the first two movements if played with dynamic contrasts.

I attended many concerts when Maestro Bomstedt conducted SF Symphony and was it's musical director, I had season's tickets. He is a wonderful conductor and a wonderful person. He is 83 here, now 95 and still conducting, so full of energy and so youthful.
