Just a small footnote - notice (at the end) him first hugging the conductor, the shaking hand with the 1st violin player, showing "thank you" -gesture towards the orchestra - and first after that turning to the audience to be cheered! A true musician gives credit to his fellow musicians!

Martin Frost has such clean beautiful double tongueing. He also plays amazingly difficult technicalities with such beauty. His lower and altissimo registers have an amazing full tone. AMAZING!
@djonesey54 жыл бұрын
The Mozart Clarinet Concerto, particular its 1st--and here--3rd movements are deceptively difficult. Those who say otherwise best play with metronomic finger precision, let alone at the 92 BPM Mr. Frost takes it at here. And yet if that's not enough, the guy is double tonguing the living daylights out of it at places were slurred interpretations would have been far easier, if not easy given the speed. And yet if that's not enough he's doing it on a heavier basset clarinet. And yet if that's not enough, for all its technical demands, it's as if Mr. Frost could be doing this and working on a crossword puzzle at the same time but for lack of a third hand! Bravo!!!!

I concur. This is one of the pieces I played for my senior recital, and although it wasn't the most difficult I played, it took me a LONG time to prepare. It's a workout, especially with the slurred passages alternating with the staccato phrases. This performance by Martin Frost was fantastic !

Marvellous - should be listened after the soothing 2nd part, not alone. Then you can hear the idea of this fast tempo in its right context. This part is great, because it works in different tempi, also a bit slower and becomes then slightly more dance-like. An easier pace gives the soloist and the orchestra a better possibility to pick up smallest details of the texture. But - admiring the easiness of playing, tongue, breathing... everything! All three parts in a row tells you what a clarinet can do in hands of a true master. 1st showing the possibilities of varying and using different solutions, 2nd showing the richness of the tone and dynamics, 3rd amazing with the infinite technical ability, still in the close connection to the music and Mozart.

Truly a great clarinetist - to needlessly reiterate a now very familiar observation. I remember many of all those late evenings during the early 90:s when we were practicing in adjacent rooms at the (Stockholm) conservatory, where his brother also studied; actually, some odd chromatic runs - part of some contemporary piece - that he practiced "almost eternally" on his clarinet are still engraved in my acoustic memory... Memories can be so vivid and precise, sometimes; spooky!

He is the Heifetz of clarinetists, only with much better taste and a totally selfless attitude. He is the Buddy Rich, the Earl Wild. And so he makes you think the clarinet has never been performed on correctly before. And then he makes you understand that it's the finale of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto that has not been fully realized before.

@fcoclarinete opinions are welcome but criticizing little things are just stupid. there is always something wrong. every musician can perform the piece how they feel to show off their technique, musicality and overall change things to challenge themselves. maybe he whited out everything to make his own articulations and dynamics. I think this is the best performance because he shows musicality, great technique and knows how to give a show and give a great sound better than anyone else i've seen

@fcoclarinete every musician can perform it how he/she pleases. I find it very negative when people criticize a musician instead of enjoying the music. That isn't why they perform. Criticism isn't needed here especially since most of the people who do aren't exactly professionals themselves and more importantly in the position to adjudicate.
