An MP has been suspended from the House of Commons after refusing to stop shouting following a debate on the government’s post-Brexit Internal Market Bill.
After a 40-second outburst in which he branded the bill a “democratic outrage” to Scotland, the SNP’s business spokesperson Drew Hendry was formally “named” and barred from the rest of the day’s sitting - with MPs voting shortly afterwards to pave the way for the controversial bill to be passed into law.
Deputy Speaker Dame Rosie Winterton told Mr Hendry to resume his seat but the MP refused, proceeding to pick up the parliamentary mace and walk towards the door of the chamber.

SNP MP Drew Hendry's suspension is without pay also. Him making a fool of himself grabbing the mace will cost him £7,000 in lost wages.

A pittance compared to the lost £1,000,000,000,000 from lost North Sea oil and gas.

@@guff9567 with each and every Scot getting more per head back than England does. And where is Scotland going to get its income from once they get rid of fossil fuels? - that’s their plan. An industry that was going to be the main source of income for Scotland. Maybe they’re hoping people will eat more shortbread 😂😂😷👍

@@vtechead1 the whole idea of electric cars is total total balloney. Oil and gas can never go out of business.

@@guff9567 you might inform the car makers of your wisdom then. Nearly every car manufacturer now has electric cars for sale or are going to. Sure oil will always have its uses, but demand is going to be a lot less once electric/hydrogen powered vehicles are the norm. Some countries have already banned the sale of petrol/diesel cars. Look what happened after the first lockdown. Cars were hardly being used so petrol/ diesel sales dropped dramatically, similar to what it would be like if most cars were electric. They couldn’t give oil away and had to stop production as room to store it ran out worldwide. Rigs were shut down and production in Saudi was cut to a minimum. It’s the way countries want to go, and targets have been announced. They are even going to stop fitting gas central heating systems in new build houses in the near future. Fossil fuels are not the best commodity to base your countries income on. 😷👍

We need more MPs like this. They are the heroes of The British People. Real representatives, not like those fake self-serving other ones.

what absolute nonsense, how the hell can we pretend to be democratic with an unelected head of state who has the final say in what is and isn't the law?

@@joshuagarnham9703 you're thinking of Royal Assent, which is essentially rubber stamping an act (or whatever) to finish the process of making it law, and you're right, even though they technically could refuse it's unlikely that a ruling monarch would get involved at _this_ part of the discussion making process, However ... there is a much more insidious convention known as King' (or Queen's) _assent_ , and this is where they meddle and make a mockery of whatever pretences of democracy we have en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Consent

@@stocktonjoans don’t lecture me about something I hold dear. The King’s Assent does not affect the ordinary people, it is a convention that is only enacted if the Royal family will be effected by the proposed bill.
