Question for you Marc: How much adjustment range/components are put into place on aerodynamic surfaces? We all know how suspensions/PU mapping could be adjusted - but are there much adjustability put into front wing/barge board/rear wings? How would that be done?
@F1Elvis6 жыл бұрын
Front wings have on board quick adjusters to change flap angles and rear wings have series of mounting holes to change wing angles.
@Shaun.Stephens6 жыл бұрын
"On board"? You mean accessable from outside the cockpit surely otherwise that would be moveable aero. Just trying for clarification, surely the phrase 'on board' was redundant and possibly confusing?
@DouglasBerglund16 жыл бұрын
Cool! It would be even cooler if you got different vehicles, and since it doesn't have a great effect on road vehicles it would be interesting to see on cars with "proven" aerodynamics!

so when you said that other F1 teams will be looking at the flow vis on the car, i wondered why they don't use a flow vis paint that is invisible to the naked eye but will show up with a UV camera and light source? it would help conceal the flow structures on the car from other teams.

Considering how space age-cutting edge- pinnacle of technology F1 is, it just seems a bit odd to see a mechanic spraying paint with an old garden water sprayer haha. Also interesting point raised in the video, considering the development of an f1 car over a season, plus all new parts and aero packages introduced over a season, crashes aside, how much of the car that goes off the line in Australia will actually make it through to the chequered flag in Abhu Dahbi? I would expect very little but is that possibly not the case?

#askelvis Marc great video with the Flovis. I have a question regarding this area. What do they mean when they say the wind is stalling as with the problem on the Williams' new wing for Silverstone and how with wind tunnels and computers can they get it so wrong?
@F1Elvis6 жыл бұрын
It means that the wing is at such an angle to create the required downforce, that it has gone beyond its useable range and the airflow has detached from the underside of the wing, rather than following the surface and generating downforce. At that point lots of downforce is lost.
@ronknox33766 жыл бұрын
Thank you Marc but how, with all that they have available to them to test this before a race weekend, do they get it so wrong. I would have thought wind tunnel testing would have revealed this design flaw

@Marc Preistley Hi Marc, just wondering if teams would use flo-vis during wind tunnel tests or not? I know there is (hopefully) a closer correlation between CFD and wind tunnel tests, but is flo-vis ever used to verify CFD in the wind tunnel, or just on the 'full scale' car?

Marc, I work for a paint manufacturer in the US. What was the powder you added? It looked like just some pigment but i know that they have other powders available out there that do different thing. Also do F1 teams still actually paint cars or do they use some sort of vinyl wrap?
