A bigger problem with Soviet paratroopers in the rear echelon is that if paratroopers are being dropped then you no longer have air superiority which isn't something that US troops have faced since Korea.

To be fair, in the initial stages of a war there would be plenty of windows where soviet paratroopers could be employed while america still hasnt completely taken down the SAM network.. In practical combat use, troops would be issued 6B5-19 (6,5mm titanium for front protection, and 1.5mm titanium for rear protection) and 6B5-12 (1.5mm titanium protection all over) for artillery crew. 6B5-15 is usually reserved for "storm" units, and is not recommended to be worn for more than 3 hours (though in reality soldiers had to wear that for days).

Look at videos from firefights in Ukraine. They ALWAYS mag dump till the guy stops moving, which is always a brain or spinal hit. "Stopping power" outside of heavy weapons is a myth. 5 rounds of .22 in a guy is always going to have a higher chance of "stopping" than 1 round of 7.62. Similarly, most of them in those videos are never shooting "at" anything. They're scared as fuck and blasting into nowhere, either claiming "suppressive fire" or shooting at "something they saw". I don't blame them, but if you are going to do that then you should have more bullets to do it with! That is the case for both sides, so the guys with more bullets are going to have a significant advantage. I'd rather be a guy carrying 490 rounds of FN 5.7 with a P90 than the guy with 120 rounds of 7.62x39 or even 210 rounds of 5.56. If we really need range get a designated marksman, use heavy weapons, or call in IDF or air support. In the worst case, plenty enough ammo to spray at distance as an area target. Not like they know what caliber is coming at them. Besides that, within the range normal soldiers shoot and hit anything (

ngl that's some impressive stuff. Also if you want to be more realistic/historical, that armor is called "lamellar" armor or a (coat of plates). A design that was being used since the early medieval period, so alas no dragon scales ;)
@deadahead67753 жыл бұрын
He was more than likely refering to the dragon skin body armor made in the US in the 20th century. Also, scale armor can be used to describe said lamellar armor.
@ishitrealbad30393 жыл бұрын
@@deadahead6775 true, but in the world of arms and armor we would still call that lamellar armor and not scale armor.
@RevRaptor8983 жыл бұрын
@@ishitrealbad3039 Look at where the pockets are sewn to the vest. They are only connected at the top like scale armor, lamellar armor is connected from all sides or three sides and overlaps upwards for each plate. That said there is really no one to one comparison for modern armor and it's historical counterparts and a coat of plates is a very different thing to lamellar as it uses very large segments, brigandine would be a closer comparison. Here's a little vid for your that explains it very well :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6vCkoqarbyJq6M

For me, the P90 was always about having a 50 round mag in an easily carriable gun, for people who's best chance at 'accuracy' would be spray and pray. Didn't realise it was as bad at it's designed function as this though. Then again, for serious body armour penetration, high velocity 7.62 or better has always been the go. Scar-H supporter right here. (despite having never seen any gun of any kind other than a break action single barrel 12 gauge my dad used to hunt game back in his youth).

They were dropped on Hostomel and they took it, fell back after holding up a whole Ukrainian armored regiment for a day, then retook it next day with the help of Russian armor. The attack on Kiev (which wasn't carried out by the VDV) was clearly a feint because there were only 40k troops assigned to take the city at the peak of the supposed attack, which is nowhere near enough to take a target that size. It was clearly a distraction meant to pin down Ukrainian troops that could've been elsewhere, like 1st Marines did in the invasion of Iraq

It is interesting how effective that armor is, but none of the ammo used is "real" armor piercing rifle ammo. MP7/P90 got almost the same energy as 9mm rounds, they clearly use pistol cartridges. M855A1, while better than M855A1, isnt considering armor piercing either.

If you're willing to take the weight or cost hit, upgrading your plates is always infinitely easier than developing new "super rounds". Why wouldn't it defeat M855 tho? It's the round they were expecting to face. It's also not real AP.
