sold my 500 recently, it was my first hardware purchase and taught me a lot - if you figure out the 500 you're pretty much ready to go on anything else, people also complain about the chopping but it's very similar to that mpc 60 workflow where you couldn't see soundwaves, that's probably why a lot of 60 and 3000 users appreciate it

I was super lucky to buy a new piece of the MPC 500 with original box, adaptor, manual, heck even with the sticker on the display! Took a while to understand it, but now am fully comfortable with it, this machine is a beast. I just can't express how much I love this one. And thanks to you too, I did learn some tricks from your videos :)

Been on MPCs for years. Picked a 500 up bc my 2000 was getting to be a pain. Only issue i had was buggy OS and one midi in/out. Pads were a joke but usable even better when I replaced with thick pads!! Lot of pros on this thing. And still much better than the toy mpcs Akai been releasing. The last of an official hardware MPC!!!

Hey DyReck, I watch this episode frequently as this was the first MPC that I learned to use. I owned the 2K before but I didn't learn to use it and sold it a couple of years after owning it when my musician moved away from the area. I bought the 500 when it first came out. I remember the advertisement for it in Sound On Sound magazine and thought it would be great to use while I was on tour. TBH the manual wasn't helpful and I couldn't figure it out. I was using Reason on my laptop at the time and it was way easier to use so I stuck with that and put the 500 in storage in 2010. I picked it back up three years ago determined to learn it this time. Your videos were a help so thank you DyReck. Now I use it for the purpose I bought it for, when I am on tour or when I am away from my main studio. It's like having a portable 3000 with me on the road while my main 3000 and 2000XL stay in the main studio. To me the 500 is the gateway drug to the 3000. I had to get one and each teaches you something about the other. I really can't tell you which one is my favorite as whatever one I'm using at the time is my current favorite

Thanks fam!..I feel you..Alot of folks were against the 500 back in the day cause you had to chop by numbers..But you 3000 user's are already use to chopping by ear so it never bother yall..The 500 is dope if you use it for the right reasons..Fits on your desk perfectly Lol!
@RoomAtTheTopStudio2 жыл бұрын
@@DyReckProductions Fits with space to spare on the desk tray in economy when you are flying somewhere, unlike the Live and Live II that are both too wide. The Live and Live II are portable MPC X. The 500 is a portable MPC 3000. It all depends on what kind of workflow and sound that you like, old or nu school. I prefer old school, but each to their own.

I sold it after a few years for not much. I miss the little guy though, so looked on eBay and to my surprise they are now more than double what I sold it for! Good afternoon DyReck Productions! I have a question for you! Does the size of the wav. file matter when saving samples from the computer to the MPC500? I've tried chopping up sampling in a software program called Audacity. Then I would save them in a folder on a Compact Flash Card with 4 gigabytes and another CF Card with 16 gigabytes. But whenever I try loading up those files into the MPC, they would not all load. Only 3 out the 7 chopped up wav files would appear. I find that kind of strange. Was it something I did wrong? I even tried compressing the files and changing the bit rate and then loading up into the MPC500 but all that did was take away the sound quality and make the samples play at a faster abnormal rate!!!! I thinking there must be better useful way to resolve this issue!!!
@DyReckProductions3 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you named the samples properly..If the name is too long akai wont allow them to transfer for some reason..this happens on the 500,1k and 2500..try giving your samples a smaller name like "Mason1" and see what happens.

Just sold my '60, settled on a 500 as a replacement, after previously being snobby about them. Loving it. The OS needed a few more tweaks (not being able to trim a sample while it's playing in a sequence is a big one for me) but, if you're used to using older MPCs, it's great.
