Got a question. Before this patch you could use the MPC Live as a audio interface while recording on my PC. Can you leave the external audio interface in the MPC, connect it to a PC and keep recording, on the external audio device, through the MPC to the PC? I only have one external audio interface.

It did prior to the update in Windows too if I connected the mpc live 2, to the computer, it just didnt show the internal drive of the mpc, but it did show the usbstick/sdcard.

This is a really dope feature! I could now see myself using it as a recorder for when I play with other musicians. I can also now use a USB mixer like the Tascam model 12 for mixing purposes. However, it doesn't change the total number of audio tracks I can have in a project on the MPC Live: 8. Still, a step in the right direction, Akai!

Hello! Would you mind if i ask you a couple of questions? I'm currently waiting for delivery of my live 2 and I'm considering getting a Tascam model 12 as well! Could you let me know how well does it work over usb, are you able to assign channels as inputs? Can it output the master from mpc and add effects to it at the same time while you're using it as an input? How does it work? I'd appreciate any info/feedback. Cheers!

@@Me-Lo the answer to all your questions is YES! You certainly can assign channels as inputs, as long as you change the mode on the 12 to PC. Also, the Master outs on the MPC can be routed to the 12, which has its own array of effects that can be applied while recording, and you can even reroute that same audio back into the MPC post-effects. However, the 12 itself can be used as a recorder as well. One way you could use the MPC-12 combo would be to compose your piece in the MPC, record each track to the 12, and then mix in the 12. Or you could record a band via the 12 into the MPC. There’s multiple ways you could use such a combo to achieve your musical goals!

This feature is basically what sold me. I have the zoom l-8 and i used to have a full desk of dawless gear and it was a hodgepodge and a mess at times. Now i can use the interface i have and get rid of 3/5’s of my whole setup with the mpc live 2

How did you get on with this? I had the same idea but can't get it working. MPC forced setting the MX1 sample rate to 44100 - after this, the sample rate message on the mpc has gone but after 10-15sec MPC errors and resets back to internal. Tried all three MX1 start-up modes, but keeps erroring. MX1 is on latest firmware 1.05.

I have 3 MX1s connected to each other & run the send out to the MPC & all my instruments are connected by midi & controlled by a Novation SLMK3 keyboard sequencer. I have not tried yet to connect a MX1 to the MPC via usb, however after reading your problem I will give it a go & see what happens.

@@SimonJones I am not even going to try it, I am more than happy with the way I already have them set up & I think going via the usb would be less efficient for my workflow. I can choose any channel from my MX1 to send to the MPC aswell as my Roland MC707 & the Roland SP404a as I first send to a switcher box that lets me choose.

Mathew, the preamps on the Akai X is good too. I have a steinberg ur22mk2 and since I only have a few synths I'm ok with the inputs of the Akai. I do use UR22 for the midi though.

Hi Matthew here’s the coment about the video scarlet interface. Thanks for the question. All Scarlett interfaces are class compliant - can be connected to a Mac without installing additional drivers. I have both the 4i4 and 8i6 and although both are very good, I would recommend the 8i6 as it has its own power supply which can help out if you ever run into rfi or emi issues with your setup. Also, the additional IO vs a 2i2/2i4 is nice to have for for your MPC and other future devices that may become part of your workflow. Hope this helps out and thanks for watching

Hi Matt! In your video you show us at the end how you record your voice with the CAD Condenser microphone but through the Zoom L-12 mixer. Well, you probably can't record more than 8 pairs at a time because there are only 8 audio tracks in standalone mode. But, you can select up to 32 to inputs, so if you have an interface with 32 inputs you could leave a bunch of gear connected and select the inputs you want to record when you need to.

So not only can I record into my mpc one via usb on my zoom L12 - I also do not have to rely on the stereo outputs(mpc) to hear bc it will automatically be playing audio out thru usb on my zoom! So thinking out loud.....if I’m using a helix stomp for my guitar tones, based on this update(class compliant)- I should be able to connect the helix via usb as well. This is making me wonder if a usb hub would allow me to connect all 3 via usb(MPC, Helix & zoom) all at once! So cool!! Matthew,If you have any thoughts on if this will/ will not work please comment! You need to select what device to use in the settings. I don't think you can use all of them at once. make sure they are class compliant devices. Zoom works fine just need to put the switch in the back to class compliant.

One thing I didn't think about was the outputs. Will you be looking into the way the outputs work? One feature I used a lot on my Korg D1600 multitracker was the aux sends for using my hardware reverbs in the mix. I'm wondering if that's doable on the One. Unfortunately I only have a 2 in 2 out interface so testing is limited.

I don't see why you couldn't route, for example, 3/4 of a capable audio interface to an effects unit and send a line out of the effects unit back to inputs (let's just say 3/4) of a capable audio interface. Then you would just need to route the tracks to got to the appropriate output and inputs in the MPC. It would take work to assign everything, but should work. Would be like using the submixes for effects within the MPC but using external effects.

Just tried my Zoom L8 and since it uses the same USB to power the mixer, the MPC One only powers it, won't detect it. Maybe if I use AA battery slot, but don't want to worry about battery life

Hey Matthew. I'm gonna get some studio monitors soon and I'd like to get my setup all "tied up" together. I'd like to connect the monitors to the output of the audio interface, that's connected via USB to my computer. I also would like to have it all integrated so that the MPC sounds also comes out of said monitors. What's the best way to this? Output the MPC into the AI? What's the cable? Thanks

Hey Matthew I have a dumb question about your usb connections.....I had to study this video to see which end of the usb cable went into the L12 & MPC One....since both devices have both USB types. How did you know which connection to use? Trial & error or did you research? Just wondering. Thanks for the info! I’m trying to force myself to only record music within the MPC ONE to learn the system faster😂👊🏼... I also bought your MPC course recently that I still need to finish. Thanks!!

I use the L-12 all the time to record to SD and as a USB audio interface. You use the same USB cable/ports for the computer as MPC One. It is the same USB B connection on the L-12 that a lot of audio interfaces use. The other USB A port on the L-12 is for USB drives not USB audio connection. The other USB port on the MPC One is for controller mode on the computer. I just have experience with it I guess. Thanks for checking out the course. There is a lot of info in there, it can take time to process it.

Dude, it might be redundant, but do a video with the Tascam Model 12. Ive been watching your videos on that for weeks now to use in conjunction with Ableton Push 2. But now I might just get the Model 12 to use with my MPC Live 2 that ive neglected.
