what's the actual use of postvis?

Great question! Post-visualization is an important part of most major VFX films these days when you need to help construct a logical visual story immediately following the shoot, and well before you get your first round of turn overs from your VFX team. There's a pretty large gap in time there and postvis is useful in being able to construct quick temps in order to help inform not only the VFX teams as to the Director's vision but also the many screenings that take place during post-production. Imagine having to caveat every viewing of your film that has an ocean of green screens in it with "Just pretend if this was here!" It's an informative and nimble tool to help all departments quickly understand the visual narrative of the film. If previs is the rough draft of your film, then postvis is the final draft. This data is then turned over to our friends in MPC layout and now they have a very clear idea of the creative intent of each shot and sequence. Thanks for asking!

For preview , it helps the VFX team do their job, gives them a general idea on how it should be done

Its also for the director to see how things could feel and move before artists put hundreds of hours into the final images
