It’s a preference usually that’s formed by what software/hardware workflow a person learns first or uses the most frequently. Example a lot of people have the Mpc workflow embedded in their Beatmaking DNA thru a number of standalone devices..but the time period in which Akai was stuck trying to be stubborn and remain in the kinda outdated software and using there traditional hardware firmware..some people tried maschine and loved it because the controller gave the hardware feel but they also had amazing software and they never looked back. So much so that by the time Akai had figured out how to put it all together and advanced ..they , people who switched, were already fully ingrained in the maschine ecosystem. BUT the new MPC’s are so good and work so good between the hardware and software I feel like they are still getting an unfair stigma from the people who switched to maschine or the original maschine users based on old information. They don’t realize how dope the new Mpc ecosystem has become

I'm really enjoying your video, thinking about buying a MPC Studio next week, have had a Maschine micro, and a Maschine +, have asked Akai if the studio will be included in the MPC software 3.0 rollout, haven't had an answer yet. This Vid is to the point, showing things well, love it, peace out brother

I think it's good to cook with different tools, this is how you discover your workflow. I had the Maschine MK1 sold it, then came back for the MK3. Then I got the MPC 2 software and used my MK3 contorller, Cooking in the MPC is more work for me, it helps me appericate what I can do in the MK3.

I started with an MPC1000 years ago. A friend showed me how easy the Maschine was and I was hooked. I picked up the Maschine+ and enjoyed the ease of use. I still use both to be 100%honest though. I have my MPC hooked up to my hardware synths, and a zoom r8. Then I use my maschine+ with the Mac and a key station. 🤷‍♂️

I have both but had the Maschine before. the reason I got my MPC live 2 was because I was getting tired of using my computer. I had a nice couple months with the MPC and started creating tracks I had never made before. was really cool and inspirational(in part due to some limitations like less sounds/samples) and it was chill I could just easily do this on the couch since it even has its own speaker. however...when I got myself a dedicated mac for making music, I unfortunately rarely ever touch my MPC anymore. its a great device and incredibly powerful for what it can do standalone on a damn battery even.. but it just really cannot beat the capabilities of the Maschine. everything is just way more intuitive and clear and hands-on. and the pads on the Maschine just completely knock MPC's pads out of the park. which is quite surprising since MPC has been around for such a long time. I feel like they're too stuck to their own tradition and "how its always been" kind of mindset. which I understand because they probably dont want to alienate their fanbase. I think though that they will slowly bleed away once they find out how much better the Maschine controller and software is. again, I understand the people who are used to MPC...and if you make great shit with it...all to you, but after having used the Maschine for 3 years and the MPC live for about 2....Maschine is just objectively better overall if you put the 2 next 2 eachother. I could write down all the reasons why, but this would become a huge comment. I think the above is enough for now unless you wanna really hear my points. great video. PS, I never realized you were still so limited in adding effects when you actually hook up the MPC to the pc...thats terribly disappointing. I only use my MPC live 2 standalone and atleast understood the limitation like that...but hooked on the PC..SMH :(

THANKS, extremely useful to a total noob like me. MPC, although the all time Champ, initially confused the living $hit out of me till I recognized it was basically referencing the 16 pad MPC h/w by Akai (which i knew nothing about!) Definitely prefer the Nazi s/w, it's far more logical for those never introduced to MPC hardware. In fact Akai should do it self a favor and tell noobs whats going on as soon as MPC s/w starts up the first time. If it wasn't for my undying love for music I would never have spent over a week of Youtubing till I got that understanding about the MPC s/w, others have given up much earlier, only because of this massive confusion. Keep up the good work!

If it was 2009 I would give it to Mashine, but in 2023 I say Akai is the victor. IMO Maschine’s strongest point is the sounds you can use with it from Komplete aside from that I don’t see it beating the MPC especially in the portability/functionality area. I can start my MPC Live 2 and within a min have a drum loop and sample ready to go, no computer needed.

What’s the percentage of people using tempo/ meter changes? 1%? Not saying it isn’t usefull, just imo other functions should be chosen first like vst 3, arranger etc… wich are 2 of the most asked update functions. I have the one and the plus, and for standalone the plus is miles ahead for full song production, but once it becomes bout midi and driving other synths, program changes etc the mpc comes out on top.

I love how you tackle this debate - facts, demo, awesome! But I think the question is more grooveboxes versus DAWs. I use a Maschine, but always end up pulling my beats, melodies, loops, samples, riffs and bits into Logic (or Ableton). One reason is 3rd party plugins and adding vocals, but really there a bigger question about the value an MPC, Maschine or any other GrooveBox adds to the workflow? Could i do all the beats, sampling, chopping and GrooveBox stuff in my DAW? YES - of course! I have a Launchpad X and several keyboard controllers, so I have pads, keys, etc. Do I need an MPC or Maschine? Some people are wed to the MPC software or Maschine 2 software - they know it and they’re comfortable - but for me it’s a compromise from a full DAW like Ableton or Logic. Do grooveboxes target non-musician producers and DJs while DAWs target musicians?

Do not buy the MPC if you plan on working with audio tracks. It's got a bug that makes it super tedious. The bug is that when you are looping a section of an audio track and laying down drums, then when you move the loop to the next section the UI zooms all the way out. So then you have to zoom all the way back in to where you were working. It's SOOOO frustrating. I gave up on it. I don't use the MPC anymore and went back to Ableton. Also, it wont let you continuously overdub on an audio track. The recording stops as soon as it gets to the end of the loop. ( At least the Maschine has its 'take' mode which looks wonderful.) The built in drum samples are pretty bad. Hardly any of them sound like real drums. The Bassline synth is awful. None of the presets sound like a real bass guitar. I work with off rhythm audio tracks that this awesome blues guitarist sends to me to put drums on but the MPC is so bad that it's just unusable for my workflow. I was thinking of buying a Maschine but I'm not sure it can loop over any arbitrary section of an audio track while I lay down beats. I have not seen a convincing demo.

No shade towards NI. They make good products. Just not products that work the way I work. Song mode does what I need it to do with the way I work. Arranger mode does nothing for me. I don’t care to retrain myself to work differently to accommodate NI workflow. To each, his/her own. Hopefully, Akai adds arranger mode so people stop complaining. Just just don’t do it at the expense of song mode.

The video is made for people to see how they are the similar in most aspects. The truth is an MPC standalone is a computer made for people who want to have the features on a device that's made by akai to use the pads and knobs, I can do the same and more on my high end computer because they both run the same software. I do have an MPC that is given to me form AKAI Professional here in Japan I do not own one and don't have too but I can work any MPC and have videos on all of them. It's important for me to know every and all kinds of gear since I get asked a lot of questions and work with a lot of clients. What matters is pick what you like best.

How can you compare? One is hardware. You can turn a knob on the controller MASCHINE and you sound like Sp12, MPC, and asr10. Great topic! Yes, the lines has been blurred. And you’re doing great work. A Service to future producers. I always said the machine controller is redundant. I went years without it. Now they make a hardware but it ain’t fair, because you don’t get the computer service just get the chip lol my people like the old MPC. Its hard for people to cross over. I started with Korg S3 and a DSS1 Korg sampler. Way back in the day. I remember the Emax II, and the Sp12. I have a maschine MK two and maschine studio. I don’t need those controller, even though the studio has hardware capabilities. It’s more for looks and live shows.
