Matthew you were a big help to me in this MPC process, just wanna tell you from my stand point of knowing about what you meant on the comment, you said in replying. Well it's a matter of transposing, it as a piece or just going buy the scenic route. I dj and I know the differences' between tempos, it's a setting used most common for the bit rate differences. It can either totally stretch out the length of the sample, or just break it down into bits, so it's not warp sounding. I guess that's why they call it warp, when you can just tempo it, makes sense! Thanks Matthew Stratton! You made me understand how fun it is being a musical engineer! Ron

Thanks. Good point. It depends on the application on what would be more useful, warp or time stretch. Warp is more flexible and for DJ situations makes sense. Thanks for your input!

Great video! Really informative. What do you think the best process would be if your drum break isn’t the exact right length to begin with? Say, for example, you want to chop a 1 or 2 bar loop from a song, that is at a different bpm, how would you best get that chop to line up and then time stretch? Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. As Ron stated in another comment, he djs and uses warp for that. Which makes sense because warp is more flexible, especially if you are actively changing the tempo. If you are producing, I think the time stretch function just sounds less jittery. At least through my experience. Probably depends a lot on the sample as well.
@ModernDevotion
@ModernDevotion 4 жыл бұрын
Doing time stretch is also less CPU intensive since it's rendered down and offline. warping is using CPU cycles for every sample you do it to in a project. just something to keep in mind if you're using a lot of loops in a given project.
@MatthewStratton
@MatthewStratton 4 жыл бұрын
@@ModernDevotionthanks for sharing. And just to add to that the manual even gives a warning about overusing warp as quoted here: "Note: The Warp algorithms are very CPU-intensive and can result in audio drop-outs during playback if used too freely. Be mindful of how (and how often) you use the warp function."

Great tutorial as always bro thanks. Got a question the loop you just added to your track at 90BPM. If you change the tempo of the track would the loop be in sync while turning the dial to various tempos. Or you have to manually change the BPM in Sample Edit everytime?
@MatthewStratton
@MatthewStratton 4 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thanks for the question. If you change the tempo of the track it does not change the tempo of the sample when you use the time stretch function. If you want the sample to change with the BPM you can use warp in program edit. The issue with warp is that it doesn't sound as nature when you make big changes to the BPM.
@MatthewStratton
@MatthewStratton 4 жыл бұрын
Also, warp does use more CPU and the Akai manual suggest to not overuse warp in any given project. But, if you are only using it here and there you will likely be fine.

Great tutorial. This may sound crazy but is there a way to time stretch an entire beat. I have a beat at 118 bpm but it’s too slow for the artist I made it for. Is it possible to time stretch the beat to say 130 bpm?

Does doing a time stretch change permanently change the original sample? I want to change the BPM of the drum break JUST for this project but have the original sample remain in the original BPM. How can I do that? Thanks!
@MatthewStratton
@MatthewStratton 3 жыл бұрын
When you load a sample into a project it makes a copy of it in the sample pool. When you save the project you save a new sample, and the original sample is unaltered. You can always make copies of the sample in Sample Edit as well.

I have all my samples that I'm using on the A bank but I want to key note my 808 across the pads so I can play a pattern but how do I do it without putting the 808 key notes on the A bank? Please help, I'm super frustrated with all these smart dummie tutorials that aren't specific, too vague, too fast & SKIP steps that don't help a beginner like myself lol

Correct. The time stretch algorithm sounds better than warp to me and time stretch also saves on cpu. There are several ways to work on the MPC and that is one of the things the makes it so great,

Warp kinda distorts the sound when it’s a higher bpm .. time stretch plays it clear no matter how high or low the bpm
