During this visit, we aim to get the layout finished. There's still a lot to do, and I only have two weeks. Can I do it?
I've decided to give my viewers two videos this week, so please check out the other one if you haven't already done so: • Build an HO-scale mini...

That's sad that the TSA ruined your trains. I do enjoy watching your KZbin projects. Thanks a bunch.

The rock painting and forming looks really good. It’s pretty nifty to build foundations for the structures.

Hello Peter, I have followed all your youtube videos and am amazed at your insight to detail and your superb scratch build modelling skills as well as your techniques regarding terrain and "sculpting". Thank you so much for sharing this with the model railway community. If I had a smiley I would add it here. A smile when you are starting your video would be great. :-). I look forward to the your next instalment.

Wonderful series Peter, being fairly new to the hobby, ( a little over 1 year now ), I found each segment extremely informative & found my self going back to research past work of yours for ideas to use in my layout. Thank you!!.

If I ever get space to have a layout I want to own anywhere from 4-7 Locomotives and enough rolling stock to build 4-7 trains in a mixture of passenger and freight. I think they way I would do it is to start with 1, Work my way up to 3, then get the 4th one, and then get 5 6 and 7 because among the 7 i would want to eventually own there are 3 kinds, 1 4 and 2 with the 4 and the 2 being different road numbers of the same design of locomotive. but at present I have neither the time money or space for a layout so I live vicariously through people like you.

A beautifully done layout, Peter. I've really enjoyed this series of videos and hate to see them come to an end. It's amazing to see how much you've accomplished in a few relatively short trips. I hope to see you working on similar projects in the future. ...Roy

This series hasn't quite ended yet as there are still a few videos in the queue. There is also a brand new project layout in the pipeline, the first two videos for which have already been uploaded. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

There is an interview with Brian published by the company owner. Search for "Affordable Model Railroads". He wasn't running trains at the time, but I was. The camera train just comes into view right at the end.

The last time I went to work on that layout, I took some of my cars and locomotives to photograph on the layout but they suffered quite severe damage at the hands of the TSA overlords going through my bag and not repacking it properly.

If you don't mind, please tell us where those foundation (metal ?) bases come from that the structures (houses/sheds/Indus. apparently slip over as vertical anchors for them, seemingly allowing structures to be lifted away at any time as well..Do you make them ? Also, please tell us what product is your preference for poring the 'water'. Looks nice and wet !! ~ Anyway, why some don't want to learn to build there own layout is beyond me.. I think they're missing out on that wonderful aspect of the hobby; building your entire world/learning just how... But as usual, your work is terrific !! Thanks Peter, M
@mpeterll
@mpeterll 3 жыл бұрын
Those structure foundations are scratchbuilt from styrene sheet as part of the structure build. It is my standard method of anchoring structures to a layout. That way it's easy to remove them for maintenance, and if the layout gets changed there's a reasonable chance of being able to pull them up without damage. I did a whole series on how I built these structures.

Maybe I did film some trains running. Maybe I've already uploaded them. Maybe they will be made public within the next few weeks. Maybe I'm already working on November's videos and shots of the SP Daylight and a SF freight doing its work are both mixed in. Maybe . . .

Oh My Goodness! I'm blown away with this amazing layout You have created! I'm new to the hobby, and I wish I can build my dream layout for my O gauge mth subway sets I have! Have You ever buiilt a subway layout? I've done some elevated structures, but definitely, need more practice! Keep up Your great work! Robert.-
@MarkInLA
@MarkInLA 3 жыл бұрын
I do not think he or even many have done this, and with any logical success far as parts of subways WITHIN tunnels...There ARE 'EL' (elevated line) layouts around. And come to think of it, the ones I've seen are 0 gauge !! I grew up in NYC and always had a subway layout on the back burner..Prob we ALL run into is the question of depicting traveling from say, 72nd St.&B'way station on the IRT to, say, South Ferry or just to Times Square ...From side view is difficult. And from above view is diff since above view has streets in the way of, and do we really (I don't) want a top-view-only of trains all the time ? / how to treat THAT whole problem...See ? Most viable is a shallow, around the walls, side view (half tunnels/stations). But then another prob occurs; lack of diversity in scenery; near all subway tunnels/stations the same, so different from above-ground life.... But yes, it would be great if ..............M

How many “contractors” are there assisting in the building of this layout? It seems a bit unorganized if there was supposed to be one coherent theme? Has it been normal for others to do work that interferes with what you had planned to do?
@matthewpering8091
@matthewpering8091 6 жыл бұрын
Beautiful work, sir. I really don't get why that trestle is there when you first enter. Whomever it was who planned that should be severely reprimanded. It is destructive to the illusion of leading you in. The first things you should see should be simple and not so complex with a layout of that size. A trestle like that is more of a centerpiece, not an entrance greeter. Just my opinion.
@mpeterll
@mpeterll 6 жыл бұрын
I had nothing to do with the design of this layout. Personally, I think it was very poorly planned, but the owner is very happy with it and that's the main thing. It's his layout, not mine. Shortly after my first visit, I designed a layout for this same room, just for my own satisfaction (right before I got too busy to spend any time on my own hobby). I might even finish it and present it to my viewers some time. The trestle scene looks okay at first glance but doesn't bear close-up examination.

That would make an interesting video, actually. Especially if done as a design comparison.

I don't know why you're calling it a Truckee layout. There are no coal mines or vineyards in the Truckee area. The tunnel entrances don't look like the portals around Truckee, the lake isn't anything like Donner Lake, and the towns don't look Truckee. There are pine trees around Truckee. Jerry, Truckee CA
@mpeterll
@mpeterll 4 жыл бұрын
This is not the layout I'm calling the "Truckee layout". That one is so named because it will be installed in a basement in Truckee CA; not because it represents that area.

Don't understand why you said one area "looks like crap". Didn't look that way to me... One minor criticism if even possible: To me, some one the rock crevasses look boxy and I think could use a bit of brown ink on rock face. This does not mean I don't thing you're anything short of being a modeler extraordinaire; for you are !
