1) Your carving of the rock faces is (once again) outstanding! 2) I'll never get used to the amount of noise that american locos produce!

I've watched all the video's of Brian's layout, very cool looking layout, was wondering if there is an overview of this layout as a plan?
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
No, I didn't design that one. I came into the project after it was already partially built.

I had an Idea that I thought would be really cool end a train in a tunnel on one persons layout continue it out of the tunnel on another persons layout and just keep doing that from layout to layout until it comes back onto the first persons layout so a video can be made of a continuing run from layout to layout. Just a crazy idea I had.
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad idea for a cab-ride video. The brief darkness in the tunnel forms the perfect cross-fade opportunity.

@@mpeterll and it really would not matter what scale the layout is just that it continues from one to another

Hi Peter, boy you sure move around. From O to N to HO. This HO looks like it could be real interesting. If the owner lets the maestro finish his symphony. Sorta speak. I'm looking forward to you returning to that massive n scale you've been working on. Hopefully that's on the agenda for next week. But, whatever, wherever, I'll see ya next time.

Great job, Peter. I realize you’re under a deadline here, but personally I prefer doing my scenery at a more leisurely pace😊 Thanks for sharing!

You may want to solder the rail joints that will be inside the tunnels.

Absolutely beautiful, love the rock cliff and depth of this layout. I am not really a fan of the round and round Cat chasing it's tail effect. I know most modellers love to just sit and watch the butter churn as the trains go round and round. Looks like quite bit of work. So how man people working on this layout? Can hardly wait to see the next update.

I don't know how many people worked on this layout before I got there. It was basically built before I touched it.

Loving those mountains, though I don't think we could get away with them in lowland England! What a transformation from 12:15 to 12:05. But what a stage to have to leave the project at - or are you there for a few more days yet?
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
What you saw is all I was able to get done. It was supposed to be five days, but I had to spend most of the first day fixing track problems and most of the last day cleaning up. What you see is only about 3 1/2 days work.

I remember a video you did( I could not find it now) of you introducing a company that made trees for a layout. Maybe even you made them, anyways. Could I get that link to trees for an hour layout???
@mpeterll4 жыл бұрын
I don't recall the video you describe. Maybe I was introducing my own line of trees. If so, you can purchase them at superiormodelrailroads.com

Would you consider designing and building an HO layout for installation in Sydney, Australia?
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
I can do layout designs for customers anywhere in the world. I already have several international customers. Your location doesn't really make any difference to the design process - all you need is internet access. Although I can also build or install layouts outside the US, international shipping and/or travel does get expensive in a hurry. Let's talk about this privately. Please contact me through my website superiormodelrailroads.com

Hi Peter, yet again another very enjoyable video to watch. I do enjoy your format, if I ever become a KZbinr it might be the way I go. They really do love their rock faces over that side of the pond, I really love the look of them but not on my layout, fields, woods and gentle hills more my style. Either way I would really love to see how you carve your rock faces Peter but perhaps it's a trade secret, I can see why. Regards Chris

Forgot to ask you the following, like the trees, but the ones you have for sale on the website are (I think) for HO, execpt for the Jumbo version, you any trees for O scale? and what about shipping, I live in the Netherlands, what will be the shipping cost?

Ballast first or scenery ?
@mpeterll5 жыл бұрын
If I am doing the whole layout, I do the ballast as part of the ground cover (i.e. pretty near the end of the scenery process). Unfortunately on this layout, the ballast had already been done before I got there. First, that makes it a lot harder to mask off the track. Second the ballast shoulders will get messed up by the scenery. Third, the ballast needs to be on top of the dirt, not under it. Forth, doing the ballast touch-up after the scenery is finished takes longer than a whole ballast job with bare track. The only reason I pre-ballasted the track on my own layout was that I was hand-spiking all the track and had the option of ballasting the ties before the rail was added. Even then, I didn't go beyond the ends of the ties on the outer tracks, leaving the shoulders to be done after the scenery.

I have a question about your ridge design. Why did you end it where you did? As it stands now you have created a situation where an operator can stand at the end of the peninsula to watch trains on both sides of the ridge. That is not a good idea. Why not carry the ridge across onto the removable top on the tunnel creating a view block? You can employ a deep cut for the current exposed tracks passing through the ridge while blocking an operator’s view so he can’t park himself there at the end of the peninsula. The view block and the cut would make the end of the peninsula more interesting while conveying the idea that the ridge continues on beyond the end of the peninsula. Just a thought.

Your videos are very interesting, but can you please hold your camera steady... what your eyes see as you move your head around is completely different to what a camera sees as it gets moved around the same way. Your videos makes me need sea-sickness pills ;-)
