How I Build My Load Order for Fallout 4 on Xbox

We are back and what better way to start than to look at mods! I was going to redo my list and figured I'd record some of it and share my thoughts. Hopefully this is helpful. As noted in the video, this is not a definitive load order video.. but you can probably assume a lot of what you see may be in it when I make it.

@@tangy3366 Whatever works best for you is the way to go. Feel free to use my load order videos as a base if its helpful. If you find some other mods you want to use then just read the descriptions to see if they mention anything about placement. Generally, it's almost always patch mods/gameplay/weather on top and performance stuff on the bottom. Everything else is in between with some exceptions. Kind of like a sandwich from the top down.

UFO4P is "fixed" in Far Harbor now, they FINALLY removed their changes there after years and years of terrible crash-inducing mistakes.

Yeah I recommend avoiding unofficial patch, I remember reading somewhere how it was made to run on PC. Xbox version of Fallout 4 is made different on PC, hence why some mods on Xbox don't properly line up as it would PC (like some hair mods would show a gap on the characters head, texture pop in and out at the freeway bridge leading to Nuka World station and Far Harbor like Cranberry Island and the shed at Acadia). I've seen reports that it runs smoother on PC than it does for Xbox. I recommend avoiding mods that require UFO4 patch on Xbox. I had done several tests on this in the past and it took me until I uninstalled all 150 mods and just had the patch ran, ran to Far Harbor on very easy just so I can see how it ran and sure enough trees, some buildings and walls were popping in and out. Did the same for Nuka World. Thought I put that out there so you know. I use OctoberJemini Tweaks & Enhancements and my game runs smoother than ever and this is on the Xbox One S, so I imagine it would be even better on the series X. For me I have it mid bottom of my LO, game can run for a long while, almost 3 days. I also use Cheat Boston, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It has a cellar underneath Sanctuary Bridge, that leads to a hallway of doors that lead to different areas of Boston. There's also a DLC version too, but I used the no DLC because the Miss Nanny Mission in General Atomics Factory was bugged for me. You'll have to be the judge Tech if you decide to try out those mods. I think he's just coming up from downstairs, but you should be able to do the mission like normal.

​@@BayB_Legz97 Less crashes without the patch, plus the patch breaks precombines. Dealt with too much trouble with it and got tired of the flickering/disappearing and reappearing textures. Without patch I manage to get a full permadeath playthrough up to lvl 165. I updated to Series X back in August and had a waaaay better experience, I can even have big fights like I always wanted, even in downtown Boston. Still kept the tweaks as it got rid of godrays as it gave me problems, and have the 60fps mod. Full set of mods, 2-3 crashes total on a lvl 280 playthrough.

@@Matt_the_TechRanger Roger Ranger, I have a theory for the release date during October as a reference to the "Prepare for the Future" scene when the bombs dropped. Starfield's release is in mid-2023 so it's possible for Fallout 4 Next Gen Special Edition to release after or just tank and just update Fallout 76 with Nostalgia bait or a throwback tease

I've been messing with my load order for months now. Finally a solid video. My only question is. What category would sounds mods like footsteps, ui sounds, radio stations all under? Always had an issue on where to properly place them.

Aw, thanks! I usually put those toward the top with other patch-like mods. I think with weapon mods, it can get tricky with audio stuff so if you have any of those, maybe placing a sound mod underneath those somewhere might be best. Sometimes I have issues where a weapon mod sounds weird but most of the time it's good. It could just be the mod itself that has a sound issue, not 100% sure.

Side note, After watching your video and seeing that cinematic color mod, I threw that on with true storms and a darkness mod for it, and the escape from Boston greenery mod and my God it looks super good. Especially at night with heavy fog.

Yo Tech, be careful fam - that MK18 and add-on merge you're using was ported with stolen perms unfortunately! Is a bit of a bummer having to use the bigger file and add-ons as standalone but that porter is honestly no good for the console community, they're causing authors to (understandably) take their perms away from us console porters and hindering the scene greatly 😞 anyway man, just thought someone should flag that with you, take care

Lastly, the MK18 and add-ons have been compressed to even further for us console modders and ported to avoid use of the stolen version - that is what this whole thing was about, is literally a stolen port on console, maybe next time read between the lines fam and save everyone some time 👍

If you’re starting fresh on a new save then you’re good. You can clear your reserve space to dump all of your mods. The tricky part is when you start uninstalling and reinstalling mods on existing saves that have mod data on them already. That’s when you can run into some issues depending on the mods you use.

Hey man this is my first video I gotta say I'll definitely keep watching your stuff! I gotta question tho, I saw you had two reserved storage for Fallout. I went to check my storage too and I had some too, but it was only 6KB.. so after this weird way of explaining it my question is how do you have two? And it having 2GB? I already tried deleting stuff from my internal storage but that didn't work, I understand that I have one from my external hard drive but can't figure out how to increase the internal reserved space PS. Sorry for the overuse of the words "Reserved" and "Space"

Reserved Space on a game is just tied to that game. Like a partition on a hard drive. It cannot be increased to get more mod space. 2GB is all there is available for Fallout 4. The smaller reserved space might be for your local game save. If you are connected to the internet, then all your saves are backed up on Xbox LIVE anyway. Since my saves are set to load with certain mods, I usually remove that too for a clean slate.

I believe the description of the mod says it should be at the bottom or as low as possible. I usually go by mod descriptions first.

Where should i put fps and other performance mods? I know there is an FPS boost, but some of the mods that increase view distance and make it more like a PC are not compatible with FPS boost because they have their own FPS boost

That stuff always goes at the bottom. If you have FPS boost as an option and use any FPS mods then you might want to disable that first (i.e. Ultra graphics FPS mod)

My fallout 4 library has some of the mods I used in a current play through but most of the mods saved on the library are from a long time ago I don’t use anymore. Any idea on how I would get rid of my old mods and make it to show the current ones only?

You’ll have to go on Bethesda.net to do that after logging in. Not ideal but sometimes they mods won’t remove themselves from the library when you delete them from your list in-game

If you play on Series X then you can go to your Games & Apps and highlight Fallout 4 and click on Manage Game and Add-in’s. You’ll see Compatibility Options and you can turn on FPS Boost there (it may or may not be on by default). No Series X version yet but that should be coming this year. That’ll push 60fps and I think it works pretty great. Mods are up to you but if you haven’t played before then it’s worth playing without mods first.

Maybe it'll be smoother this go-around since Fallout 4 is a newer game but they haven't given any specifics over what the upgrades will be other than higher res and framerate (will probably just be a solid 60 at 4K on console without FPS boost).

This isn’t a load order video per say.. saving that for the next-gen update. But you can definitely check some of these out. I can’t speak on OG Xbox One performance since I don’t own one anymore. Mileage will vary but all mods are made/ported for Xbox One. Always appreciate ya, Ethan 👍

constant freezing and crashes, is it too many mods, is it the wrong load order, is it a memory problem? I have an 8 TB external HD, should I keep all mods on it and just run the game on the xbox? Should I keep the game AND the mods all on the external? Would just like to play and build without the constant freezing lol.

What Xbox are you playing on? I've heard from a lot of subs that the Series S has some issues with freezing in parts. Freezing and crashes can happen with mods regardless but Fallout 4 is also not the most stable game, even on Series X. Maybe once the Anniversary update comes out but I still crash from time to time. I loaded up this mod list and I'm absolutely loving the game.. The only thing I'm not fond of is the damage modelling... I wish guns in particular would deal more realistic damage. I'm using the x5 damage multiplier which is already better, but stops you from using things like the machete cos you get destroyed if a ghoul sneezes on you. Do you know of any mods that can make the gun play more realistic? Cheers!

SKK Dynamic Damage Manager. Modify XP gain, incoming dmg, outgoing dmg, uncap outgoing melee dmg, target onhit sound, protect player from unkillable actors, everyone killable. Everyone has their own preference. So I like to be able to fine tune it to my own. No, I didn't make the mod. I just swear by it.

Yeah, I'm just not sure if those Pip-Boy replacer mods would work with anything that modifies the Pip-Boy so I haven't tried. I guess it all depends on what a Pip-Boy Replacer actually changes (the look of the screen and actual Pip-Boy) that might cause a conflict or make one mod not work. I would read the mod descriptions to see if they mention anything about other Pip-boy mods.

my fallout is to the point that no matter how many times I delete reserved space, as soon as I install a mod a restart my game, it crashes at the main menu :(( probably just time to leave this game alone

Yikes. Have you tried doing a fresh install? Fallout can be unstable at times but shouldn't be like that.

First rule is to not download a bunch of mods for your first time. That’s a lot! I see a lot of what use though 👍 Always be sure to read mod descriptions as some mods don’t work well together. For example, gameplay stuff goes towards that top like Armorsmith. HUD Framework and immersive HUD should before Def UI. Def_UI core is a base mod so the preset goes after. I have a beginner tips video that should help 👍 I would recommend removing anything you don’t think you need right away so you can get a solid list first. There could be some overlap/conflicting mods in there.

You adding mods to change the game and add features. I just want to be able to have a playthrough I don't get kicked out, brrrrr crash, freeze for 2 mins at a time or get a quest I can't complete cz I've done it it and it won't check it off lol

The Unofficial Patch can help with some quest things but it isn't perfect. Fallout 4 still has its issues with or without mods. If you're freezing for that long then that's not normal. If you play with mods then you'd want to look for conflicts in your list first.

Theres always ways to mitigate it but I don't own a Series S so I can't give specific advice. Mods can't fundamentally change the game so fixing that area entirely wouldn't really be possible since its probably related to the game engine. Here is a performance video I made a while back that still holds up (kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2rcnqGYp7R9q5o). I think using the FPS Boost on Series S as opposed to a mod is also a good idea.

Where does Ai mods go and mods that add companions

Those are generally mods that you will want to read the description for to see if there are any specifics on where to place them. I haven't used any companion mods aside from changing their appearance so I usually put those with my other character mods. I am using an AI mod that I put towards the top and so far so good. But I know in Skyrim that something like Immersive Citizens should be low on your list.

@@Azathoththegreatcreator I would probably move Nytra's down so it's above the FPS Overdrive. Also, I think STS and Scrap/Scap? might conflict. I tried searching for it but couldn't find it but I saw that both dealt with settlements. You can duplicate your save, do a hard reset, and load it up on that save if you have an existing one. If not, I'd try it out. Seems solid to me!
