Wish I had seen these videos a while ago. I invested in a MPPSolar PIP2424 as a stand alone solar for the shed - and later the pool. Seems to work great atm - one month old - but hopefully in the long term. Not problems with charging but has an irritating issue when discharging. The problem is that the calculated battery SOC is incorrect and that is causing the system to alarm. An example is that when the system is connected to utility the battery level is 27.02V and SOC is 100% but when you disconnect the utility power the battery level drops to 26.6V and SOC to 90% - so already an error. Under load (50A battery load) the battery level drops to 25.3V SOC 52% and 24.9V SOC 48% and alarm comes on. In reality the SOC at 24.9V is 80% - double that indicated. There seems to be no way to reset the alarm without connecting the utility power, which obviates the reason for the off grid system. Regards

It has been 2 years since your last video on PMP Solar. What are your thoughts now any changes? Have they upgraded their products to solve problems you discussed earlier? I am a little worried about purchasing a poor quality inverter but for me money is a real consideration. thanks. Jim

so was there any issues with the PIP4048 charge controller or was it all in the pcm5048 over charging the batteries. And did you think about changing the cap in the inverter to a higher rated one to see if that over came the problem.

Hi dockarl123, Try setting your charge voltage C.V. to 55.6 or 55.7 looks like the voltage is going up way to fast??? Are you sure you don't have a bad cell with in your battery bank?

Your video's scare me! lol! Hope my 4048 unit will last longer than 90 days!!! (Time will tell) Only had it running about 30 days now??? Good luck with your system..... You were saying its over charging going over the set point, Would not hurt to try to turn it down some. If not what i recommended, maybe one point at a time till it says under 60 volts or you get it dialed where you want it... cheers & Happy holiday.

Great info!!! Thanks! The tesla auto maker uses aa looking battery's! lifepo4 cells (a bit bigger than aa size battery) in there electric vehicles, the Model S uses like 7000 of them. Using the same type of cells in my 12volt packs. there are over 600 of the aa size looking cells in each of the 12volt packs and each 12volt pack only weights about 35lbs. Sorry your having problems with MPP. I understand how you must feel. Will keep posting my results with mpp. Try lowering you CV Voltage one point at a time till you get it dialed where you want. Would not hurt to try this for a day or two and see if you can keep her under 60 volts. Or not!!! lol!

dockarl123 i literally can't set my absorb or float voltages to any higher than 58.4v; which is fine for my float voltage of the batteries but a bit short for the bulk charge rate! i've been up and running a couple of months with my 4048 using the internal charge controller... fingers crossed!!

Did you ever get any kind of refund from MPP? I recently spoke to a couple that have bought the giant version and are having all kinds of problems. I use my pip2424msx as an inverter because it is basicaly a shit house controller. I added a Midnight Solar Classic 150 to the system and all my charging woes were instantly over. The unit used as an inverter only is quite reasonable. Just never trust it as a charge controller.
