I get what your saying but junior doctors in large numbers want £19ph from the tax payer. The MPs want it from the private sector. If they are worth that money is down to the people paying for them just like footballers. To pay the £19ph would mean raising taxes. Sure we can raise rich people's taxes but as much as we think it will make a difference, the number of rich millionaires is not enough to make a dent to cover the £19ph. The UK needs to improve its productivity by having more highly skilled jobs with higher wages to create additional income tax revenue to create funds for the NHS. That's the unfortunate economics.
@rl3799
@rl3799 Жыл бұрын
@@tanveerUKhan15 If we wait until the tories do anything to help improve productivity then you can be pretty sure we won't have much of an NHS left. I can guarantee you that 50% of the F1s and F2s that I work with will be gone in the next 2 years given the present working conditions and payscales - why would they stay if the can move somewhere that treats them with respect, and which allows them to live some sort of life outside of work. Then good luck to you, as you will be paying far more in private health insurance contributions than you are in tax, and even then, there won't be enough doctors to look after you.
@tanveerUKhan15
@tanveerUKhan15 Жыл бұрын
@@rl3799 yes I agree. Though I don't think Kier starmer is the guy to resolve things as he simply makes statements the public want to hear but doesnt tell us how he can do it. The country had a chance to fix the NHS by putting Corbyn who is outside of this elite system as PM of this country. The people choose Brexit and immigration over the NHS. We all knew Boris was not honest and would sell out the NHS but the people still voted for him. I think the Tories will still win the next general election because Kier Starmer isn't showing to be a good prospect.

And Liz Truss (remember her ?) has reportedly recommended Kwarteng for a Peerage to the House of Lords. Then, he could presumably double his daily rate to £20k per day ! 🤣🤣
@hayestimmy
@hayestimmy Жыл бұрын
An additional concerning aspect of the interview is how he asked nothing about the company and his role. An interview should be a two way street in which both parties share and learn and determine if they are a suitable match. Kwarteng's only concern was the salary. He literally would have sold himself out to anywhere for a few quid. Desperate.

Every job I've ever had has had a clause in the contract stating that I could not work for someone else at the same time. I always had contracted hours - that bit is usually flexible, especially nowadays, but doing work for someone else is a dismissable offence. As it should be. MPs earn a good salary compared against most people's earnings, but not compared with the other kinds of professional jobs most MPs could walk into. However, when you take a job on, the salary is clear. If it's not enough for you, go and do another job instead, not as well as. It's really not that difficult.

Not completely true. If you are on zero hours contracts (sadly as a school teacher I am), we are allowed to work other jobs, frankly to make ends meet. Doesn't compare to these MPs though. I think nurses and all those gig workers get the same deal.
@acciid
@acciid Жыл бұрын
@@ronniechowdhury3082 If you're allowed to work other jobs then there's not something in your contract that says you can't. Zero hours contracts would be a great thing if you could take on many contracts and not be committed to any of them. Of course, that's far from how they work. It's another method of outsourcing, designed to remove responsibility from an employer. And yes, nurses and a lot of other hospital staff are on such contracts. It's just another form of privatisation - government takes out a contract with an agency, they no longer have responsibility for the staff, and their chums running the agencies cream money off the top.

I agree that parliamentarians should be held to a higher stand of integrity but I disagree that anybody should be contractually disallowed from further employment. In fact your comment just sounds like “I had to suffer it, so everyone should.”, which is a woefully unproductive mentality for people to hold.
@acciid
@acciid Жыл бұрын
@@OnlyAchievingHere OK then, put yourself in the position of the employer. You pay someone's wage and agree to them turning up to work and doing their job. But instead of doing that, they've taken on another job, potentially using insider information they get from the job you're paying them for. These are standard conditions in employment contracts. Can I assume from this that you're either self-employed or haven't read yours? Or just fortunate enough to have an employer who's happy to pay you to work for someone else? As for politicians, voters vote for MPs to represent them. They do not expect them to instead use their position of power to gain employment elsewhere. We live in an free market society. If you want to be an MP, do your MP's job. If you don't, go and work somewhere else.

The recent sky report estimates over £17m since the end of 2019. Of which £5m was for Boris. The fact that he is willing to agree to work with a company that he has done no due diligence on, he has no idea how ethical (or even legal) they are, what they do, who owns them and whether they have links with people who have been banned from having business dealings in the UK is absolutely shocking. All companies need to carry out due diligence by law, and yet our MPs apparently don't have to. He hasn't even asked what will be expected from him or made any disclaimer that he will not be able to share confidential or sensitive information. This should be a case for the Standards Committee, surely?
