I bought the Pinzgauer when new in 1998 for GMFRS, at a cost of £110k. I was Head of Engineering and Transport at the time, and It was the longest serving front line appliance in the fleet for over 22 years. It was chosen after a recommendation by an army Major who operated them in the first Gulf War, and its payload capacity is far higher than most off road vehicles of its size. Ironically, when we were researching suitable off road appliances we tested the County Transit and it got stuck more than once on the moors. In contrast the Pinzgauer never got stuck since it had a front mounted self recovery winch on the seldom occasions it did lose traction because of the road tyres ( it looks like that’s gone missing). I also bought and modified the Sankey trailer to hitch up to the Pinzgauer. It would carry portable pumps and hose across the moors and was fitted with a 24v van crane to lift stuff in and out without breaking your back

Any privately owned fire appliance kept as a fire appliance is MOT exempt. (you will get waved straight through toll roads and toll tunnels as well, just wave and smile)

When the UK Civil Defence/AFS was scrapped the Home Office flogged off fully equipped green goddess's for £800. They had hundreds in store with just delivery mileage on the clock. The ROI bought quite a few for their own civil defence organisation and painted them yellow. Many Irish brigades bought second hand UK fire appliances particularly Dennis Sabre XL's. These vehicles later had a third life in the civil defence.

why do i feel the intercooler is actually a perfect recovery vehicle. its good for winter recovery if it snows and the wet mud in the event you need to go off road. or good for flood recoveries as it has a high wheel base so can go in water. legit missing out on one of the most perfect recovery vehicles you could ever get. plus when your customers get in the back of it to take them somewhere safe they will enjoy every moment of that ride its a memory for them and perhaps make them return customers if they need you again. actually gutted you didnt go ahead and buy it lol

Many years ago I nearly bought the Pinz but GMFB postponed the sale as they couldn't replace it. Roll on a few more years and I found it had been donated to the Fire Museum at Rochdale. Several months ago I found it was up for sale again but through a fleet disposal co but I was out bid after the price passed 15k. I was absolutely gutted. At least I now know it's gone to a good home. Please please please would you take me for a spin in it once it's done?

I fix my mates old transit not bad to work on did the injector seals last time he was using more oil than diesel the joys of owning old vehicles but saying that I'm just finishing a sapphire cosworth build why we get ourselves into these situations I'll never know. Old is gold like it.

Considering yes no mot i would agree! It was a reasonable deal for BOTH vehicles. The transit county once had some love and some mechanicals and an mot will be up for sale soon. Unsure on price as still at mechanics as we speak. The white one will currently be staying. I think i maybe in that group! GDB
