That pto runs direct off the engine. Permanent drive. Electric solonoid just engages it on or off. You might find you can use the existing pump and just put a gearbox mounted pto on.

no idea if you'll see this comment or not (only just come across your channel today, very interesting & well made vids - have subscribed 👍 ) Truck looks damn good in those colours. in regards to the PTO, as others have said, its driven as long as the engine is turning, and there's a solenoid in the hydraulic system to switch oil flow on or off. ideal for its previous setup being able to change gear etc without stopping to take PTO in or out. for your build though there's no advantage to having a live PTO, what with only needing it to work while youre stationary. Unless there's some need to adjust the rear lift while you're travelling? I used to drive Fertiliser spreaders here in NZ, started in a worn out Merc 1828, moved up to a 1833 then to a Scania 360G. all 4x4 units, 3.1m wide on tractor tyres. Mostly on steep hill country, not much in the way of flat land around here. had both types of PTO setup between them, The live drive in the 1833 & Scania was massively better suited - able to change gear without interrupting the oil flow to the bin floor and spinners, fert gets chucked evenly and you arent fighting the lever to ram it into gear before the revs drop off. That poor old 1828 sure copped some abuse in it's time 😂 gearbox was really showing its age. All had factory PTO switches on the dash. Apart from the widened rims & bigger tyres, the spreader body itself, and a really thick bash plate under the sump they were completely stock.

Truckspray did a good job!! 🔥 Can’t wait to see this truck in action 👌🏻 There are actually two main types of PTO that are often used: the gearbox PTO (clutch dependent) and the engine or flywheel PTO (clutch independent). The big difference between these two PTOs is that you can use the engine or flywheel PTO on a moving vehicle. The PTO runs continuously as soon as the engine is running. Because it was a spreader and the PTO for the spreader is used with a moving vehicle, they chose this option.

But your a few miles away 😂👀 Yes that would make perfect sense same as i kind of thought with the gritter and plough I cant obviously hear it running… Unsure if there is something to activate it? Or is it litrally constantly turning cogs whilst engine on? Be interesting if i can use it for my application!

@@GDBRescueandrecovery Is there no control button on the dashboard? Maybe the controls are on the spreader itself? I have no experience with flywheel PTOs. But it should work with a solenoid valve that controls the oil supply to the PTO.

Can you do a video of the installation of the new valve bodies with solenoids? Would love to understand how much it takes to swap older valve bodies to newer ones with solenoids and keep the manual control levers along with the remote.

Engine driven PTO driven from rear timing case. So the pto can be engauged whilst in motion for the grit body. Night be worth taking the pto off the old truck similar figments I’d imagine
