They both had a lot in common, despite their differences. 1) Hook is the villain in both their dramas due to when Pre-dark one Rumple trying to fix his family, and how he murdered Charming’s father. (Which is without an ending); 2) Charming and Rumple started as farmers and left that life behind due to either by desperation or forced against their will; 3) both fell for a princess; 4) both are dog people, Charming’s dog Wilby is still around living with Charming and his extended family in a farm. 5) Both are desperate to get their kids back and find them both grown up. And like father and son, Charming’s father Robert had a thing in common too due to both he and Rumple try to fix their families by each trying to get their sons back.

The second part of that was "After all, we have a deal." Emma was breaking the deal when he threatened her, which is something neither of the men were expecting at that point. Not saying what he did was RIGHT, of course, just that he did specify that was a big part of why David's family were under his protection.

Not many people can take gold by suprise, but David is one of the few. Ive always loked their relationship. Its complicated, but david is definitely one of golds only friends.

David is one of the few who gets how to play him, too. Remember when David got the locator potion from Rumpelstiltskin to track Jefferson down with his hat early on? Rumpelstiltskin kept asking questions about the identity of the person David wanted to find, and David was like "You don't need to know that," "you don't need to know that either," and Rumpelstiltskin was SO FRUSTRATED because how's he supposed to be nosy and get all the useful gossip if David won't spill the tea?? 😂 Their friendship is one of my favorites for sure; when the chips are down, each of them knows they can turn to each other for help and advice, even if they are too stubborn to admit it

I may be missing something, but why did Gold even need the shawl/memory thing? When he was cursed Gold still knew he was Rumple, why would he revert to his curse self, when his cursed self still remembered?

He lost his memories just like everyone else. He just made it so whenever he would here someones emma's name he would get his memories back that's why he wanted to know her name so badly.

It's more to do with territory. Outside the town's line they become a permanent fixture of their cursed selves. At least until improvements were made concerning curses and magic in Storybrooke

Maybe he lost his memories when the curse first struck, but i don't think they came back when he heard the name Emma. Your forgetting that he specifically choose to give Henry to Regina because he was the savior's son. In 3x9 he had a sad look on his face when he said "You should always put your children first," which meant that he remembered his son.

Even if what you say is true, it's quite odd then that Gold could identify Henry as Emma's son, but not his own grandson.

mysteryjade Well his future telling skills have always been off. He was never able to see what his son went through after they parted, but he saw what path he had to take to get to the land without magic. I also think that destiny wanted him to be surprised when he reunited with his son. It's like Rumple said, "Destiny has a sense of humor."

***** If the writers confirmed that he didn't gain his memories back until he heard Emma's name, then he probably had a super clear vision as the dark one which showed him that Henry would be the only child available at the time Regina wanted a child. Of course, that doesn't fully explain why there was a hint of sadness in his voice when he said, "You should always put your children first," My guess is that he either had fake memories of a runaway son, or he somehow heard the name Emma in Storybrook prior to Emma's arrival in season one.

I find it interesting that Rumpelstiltskin is trying to leave Henry behind, when the Oracle's prophecy specifically states he needs a boy to lead him to his son Baelfire. As soon as Rumpelstiltskin knew Henry was Emma's son, he had to have guessed Henry would be that boy. A thought: The second part of the prophecy states that the boy will be Rumpelstiltskin's undoing. He originally planned to kill the kid after finding Baelfire, so the second part wouldn't come true. However, Rumpelstiltskin is fond of children, and Henry in particular (he gave Henry an amulet and house call for free, was gentle with his bedtime story and how he spoke to Henry, and later keeps his temper with Henry's incessant questions). Perhaps Rumpelstiltskin is trying to avoid killing Henry by keeping him home, even with the risk of never seeing his son again? He doesn't go through with killing him later, though he did consider it, and is even thrilled to find that his undoing will save Henry. I'm grasping a bit here, but this doesn't make sense otherwise. There has to be some reason Rumpelstiltskin was wanting Henry to stay home even though the Oracle told him he'd need a boy. He's so close to finding his son at this point, and it seems crazy to make this gamble.
