When I have seen Rumple on a plane so unsure I just wanted to hug him and tell that everything will be fine. I quite often fly and see people who are scared of taking off and landing show the same face expression as him beside me. I just try to make them a little more comfortable with a little small talk before the landings and taking offs and a little bit of cheering up during it, never overdoing with comfort.

in fact, nowhere has it been said that you must TOUCH things that are important to you in order to preserve your memory. It was enough to have it with you. rumplestiltskin did not lose his scarf, he merely put it aside for a moment. And it wasn't just luck on Emma's part, but the correct conclusion: rumple didn't touch the scarf directly anyway, even while wearing it, because he was wearing a full suit; hence the conclusion that he does not have to wear it all the time.

She also values his opinion; Snow and Charming are very "good will always win," which doesn't fit with Emma's worldview. Rumple has a closer fit to her viewpoint. They are both people who are injured and craving love. Rumple, the love of a child lost, and Emma, the love of parents lost. It's no wonder they clung to each other.

Good question... I don't think he forgot anything. He's the Dark One and while he doesn't have magic there, he's somehow stronger than an ordinary human, with different abilities. Maybe that's why he was able to keep his memories for this brief moment. And maybe that's why he survived Hook's attack with the poisoned hook long enough for Snow to save him. I know, her primary goal was to kill Cora and not save Rumple....

No, supposedly he didn't evade it. When Regina came to Mr. Gold talking about how she was unsatisfied with the curse, he really didn't know what she was talking about; that wasn't him messing with her. According to the creators, the reason he desperately wanted Emma's name in exchange for giving Snow and Charming information on the curse and how it would be broken while in the EF, was to create a tweak in the curse so that whenever it was that he heard Emma's name for the first time, his memories of his true self would come back. Supposedly he wanted to forget for a time, but remember when it would be most opportune. I mean, 28 years is a long ass time to be self aware and unable to do anything about it in the equivalent of hell. This way, he would be able to help, guide, push and manipulate Emma into staying and breaking the curse, but not have to sit around purposeless for 28 years before she arrives. Remember what an odd facial expression he had on that first episode after he hears Emma's name and repeats it? Supposedly that is the exact moment his memories flooded back. That's why after Emma and Snow return home after battling Cora in FTL, when Emma confronts Rumple about having seen the scroll with her name written on it hundreds of times in his cell, he tells her that he just "wanted it to stick". Yes, he left that scroll in his cell and didn't use the squid ink to escape because a) he was right where he wanted to be, and b) he knew that the princesses would need a way of escape in the future, but the reason it was Emma's name that was written on it was for him to implant her name as magic within his head. He would have no other reason to want to remember her name. TLDR: YEAH, HE FORGOT HE WAS RUMPLESTILTSKIN. HE ONLY REMEMBERED WHEN HE FIRST HEARD EMMA'S NAME.

summergirl4567 haha reminds me of the Mad Hatter being self aware. He talked about how that was the worst hell ever. Two lives in one head. But yeah I never thought about Rumple WANTING to forget for that time, I always thought it was inevitable for him to forget but he was able to create a tweak to remember later. but I can see why he would want to forget until the time was right. Although there were some sneaky scenes where Rumple seemed to KNOW, when Regina was yelling to him about Henry and his "mother" when Rumple first procured Henry. sunshineforce That's always been a bit of a mystery. I kinda see it as fate. Or maybe Rumple was able to see that far into the future. He saw far enough to know Emma would come back on her 28th birthday, after all. It is correct though, I watched an interview with Adam and Edward where they confirm it (Rumple only remembering when he heard Emma's name). I kind of like to think that Rumple always had his memories though - as I mention above, he seemed to kind of know when Regina was yelling to him about baby Henry.

I think i get the misunderstanding: Although it was never explicitly stated (at least until this episode), Rumple did apparently loose his memory like everyone else, until he heard Emmas name when she arrived. That was because when Snow told him her unborn daughter's name, he cast a spell so that hearing the name would "wake him up". I guess you thought Rumple kept his memory all along, which i thought too before someone told me about the name thing.

@@emily_232 Yes, you are absolutely right. It's so strong and yet sensitive...Robert has this uncanny ability to empathize with other people, to feel their pain as if it were his own. And that's why it took him so long to record it. When he read the texts at home, he was crying. Later in the recording studio they had to interrupt more often, not only he cried... I do believe that these words still connect people today, the knowledge that they are not alone in their pain and loss. Robert gives a voice to those who have no voice. And I'm really happy and grateful to be able to experience that.
