The collaboration between Coach Meister and Mr. Holland is awesome. THAT is how you get things done. Both want what's best for their students. Totally different styles and it worked.

I finally get the importance of these scenes: the inability to :communicate with someone vocally (the hospital scene), Mr. Holland's dedication to teach his students/son using whatever is necessary, the initial flailing at teaching someone something that neither the teacher or the student knows and the necessity of getting help from someone who does know (the band scene), and the arduous task of teaching someone who knows nothing about a subject and the joy one feels when the student catches on (the Louis Russ story line). These story lines demonstrates the emotional journey from the realization that Cole is deaf through Mr. Holland's singing/signing of Beautiful Boy

5:04 - 6:15 I love this part with the two completely different teaching styles on opposite sides of the football field. "Watch my hand...ok, we'll take care of even later" "GET OVER HERE, THERE OVER THERE YOU'RE OVER HERE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?!!" 🤣

"Touchdowns," is exactly what I would say if someone asked what was missing from our football games - One, because we already have a marching band, and two, because we have only won one single game in two seasons.... *sigh*
I think that he would be happy with the people he has, our high school only has twelve people in the marching band.

I can’t help but wonder if the exchange between Holland and the nurse was meant to convey foreshadowing about his son’s deafness. We can see their lips moving, but can’t hear what they are saying. All we hear is the music.

I know a bit about marching bands. I saw a fair amount of marching band drills during halftime at college football games on TV. Marching bands, of course, also appear in almost all parades too. Not just football games. There is of course marching band lingo like moving pictures, half military turn, pivot turn, march-in-place, circle pattern, square pattern, moving circle, to name a few. Sadly, this is not the movie "Drumline" but it doesn't matter. Holland is still good.

@CROSSTATT3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree that classical music is important. However, there are many different kinds. So, I believe that Mr. Holland wanted to show his students what was best. He had studied music, so he knew what they needed.
