It really is a testament to how good Mr Miyagi actually is considering how easily older Silver demolished Johnny (yes he sneak attacked him but Johnny could still fight afterwards) and Daniel the first time. A friend of mine was a teacher at a kung fu school many years ago. Every year the old chinese masters would come in and fight the younger black belts straight up as an exhibition. It was amazing that the older masters never lost and pretty much embarassed their younger, stronger opponents. Older masters defeating younger fighters is very common and realistic. The Miyagi scenes are good and could easily happen in real life. Our western culture is so behind in many disciplines and it really shows up here.

...and then he found out. Ouch! I think that Chozen's comments in Cobra Kai add a new layer to this. Miyagi, Sato, and Chozen all knew who taught Kreese and Silver. They all understood that deception was the key to what they did. At the time, we looked at this fight as Miyagi dealing with a threat to Daniel. Now it looks like Miyagi knew that he was one of the few people in the world that knew what to do about these people. He never takes his eyes off of Silver, but most importantly he is sober as a priest. Chozen was "3 sheets" when he went after Silver, and pretty thoroughly enraged. All the people that Chozen knew - Johnny, Daniel, and MIke, had been victimized by Silver. Sato knew Kim. This was a generational fight. He understood that it had to be him. He took it personally, however. Miyagi really doesn't take fighting personally. He cares more about Daniel-san, than he ever hates anyone.
