Mr. Sam and I made a great day of a beautiful Sunday here in Florida. Garretts shop is down because they're redoing the floors so we used Sam's new shop. Since everyone has been asking, he gave us a tour and a little insight of his hobbies. What an incredible guy!

Young people used to go and work some time for the old craftsmen. That wasn’t for nothing. They learned the trade and understood the craft to its core when they were done being apprentice. Nowadays young people go to factories they call schools and if they are lucky they don’t get shot and leave the school in good health, but not much more knowledgeable. Schools are getting worse and people coming from school don’t know the basics and the only thing they want is become a manager and earn big money. That is going to blow up real quick.

I’m 70 years old and I grew up with a lot of guys just like Sam. That’s how I learned everything about engine building. Very few young guys would know how to run any of this machinery but in the old days lots of mechanics did their own machine work. Guaranteed Sam is a wealth of knowledge. Hopefully Sam has a lot of years left because we don’t have many like him left. Good people

Sam reminds me of my dad. He’s 81 now. He was a machinist in the Navy and worked as a mechanic at the local Plymouth dealership in the late 60’s. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering with the G.I. bill. He worked until retirement designing food processing equipment and setting up production lines in meat processing plants. His hobbies were restoring cars and jukeboxes. Some of my fondest memories with my dad are helping him wrench on his cars and going to car shows and races. In the Summer, Saturday morning we’d head to a car show and that evening we’d go out to eat and catch a Modified race at Bowman Gray. My childhood was awesome and so is my dad. Appreciate these men while you still can, they’re a vanishing breed.

Sam is a perfect example of how the right people always find each other. Cleet running into Kyle from 1320 video at a random car meet turned in to where he is today. Cleet knowing Jerermy and getting him into building a fast car, meeting James and getting him in full time. To meeting JH. Getting friendly with the owners of the drag strip. James getting the job with Cleet get him a chance at moving closer which put him next to Sam. And now we have this. Amazing how groups like this come together. Cleet owns a track. Him and James own part of MotionRaceWorks. I'm sure Cleet and James would love to have a hand in what Sam is doing. Such a wild ride

Crazy deal. My dad passed away a number of years ago. Watching Sam walk you through his shop really reminded me of him. Then when he walked you into the room with the camaro, I saw the air compressor. It's the second time I've ever seen that particular compressor. The first one I ever saw is in my shop, the one my dad had my whole life and I inherited from him and use today. They probably made thousands of that compressor, but that was just crazy to me seeing it and the timing with where my head was at. I really like your videos, keep it up man.

Shop teacher back in high school was the one that got me filling the filter before putting it on. Even if the filter is mounted sideways it helps to get the media saturated as much as you can to cut down on the dry start.

As a car guy in my mid 30s, Sam is a rare old school car guy. He has clearly kept up with the industry and technology (mans got a CNC in the new shop), is wise yet humble and a clearly fun to be around. In my experience, old school car guys that are a dime a dozen will just argue that carbs are better than EFI and tell the same stories about how things used to be crazier back in the day than they are now. Or you get the guys that act like theyve got some secret sauce and they know all but you're not worthy because you don't know what its like to have pushed a broom at a shop for years for free just to learn the basics. Fuck the older generation in general, mostly a bunch of out of touch douchebags in my experience. When you run into a guy like Sam, THATS when you pay attention to the older generation and absorb like a sponge.

I always fill the filter when I change my oil, and oil is still about the cheapest thing about maintaining a engine. I also oil the oil seal ring just to make sure.

Color me blown away! It's obvious Sam is a car guy so I figured he must have a toy or two, along with some kind of setup for working on it/them, but holy criminey!... That was way cool of him to let us check out his place and what an amazing place it is. It's obvious that he has more than plenty to keep him busy, so it makes it that much cooler, that he chooses to spend his time helping the guys out with their cars.
