I did some graft before going with dad in the wagon, brought some hogs back for someone local. He's happy he now has a ball on his steering wheel and can now hold his paper properly 🤣 poorly lamb does it survive? also a prolapsed sheep!!!

Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 4 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming backgrounds. I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15. We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to where we are now. We took on a 500-acre hill farm in 2019, currently 5 years into the tenancy.
Also, here to show people women can be useful in the agricultural world.😉😁

good morning to ssf. lol. thats one happy sam. except for the sheep messing you about. he used to put a plastic thing up the back to help with that. but i know how different sheep are to cows with most things. you have seen both sides. those overtrousers . lovely idea. but i called them sweat not wet. terrible when it got warm , but so easy to keep clean. you and youre dad, so happy together , happy and laughing. what a good team you are.

you seem happier and more relaxed when your with your dad........not surprising really he seems a nice chap. what i like about your channel is your not afraid to show the good the bad and the ugly and that's exactly what farming is. shame about the lamb but a fortnight early makes a big difference

Does it matter to you financially whether it is a bull or a heifer calf ? Your mole field area had a spectacular rainbow right enough. It seems to be a never ending job. Dressing up with new wellies... that's the way to do it. An escape trip with dad is good. A break out to see the roads beyond the farm. Oliver has middle age belly spread. You need to get him to cut the carbs and get in trim shape. It's good to see a bit of what your dad does out in the truck, and see the sheep loading process up close. Getting 200 up the ramps and secured is a bit of work. Don't you ever wear a seat belt in a truck ? The lamb looked near dead when you fed it but it's worth the effort to tube it. Give it a chance. Hopefully the prolapse harness keeps the ewe held in until her due date.

Yeh great to get out. Won't be going anywhere, April, so got it in before lambing ! Yes, my belt is on :) If you look closely 😊😉bulls make more I think, heifers can make just as much but bulls better for us. If we could afford to kept replacements we would want heifers 🤣 but everything has to go.
