The thing isn’t that they think he shouldn’t be shamed, (he absolutely does) it’s that he doesn’t deserve the notoriety of being “Mr. Swirl.” We saw in the video that he took pride in the name, so if we broadcast his face and express how disgusted we are with him, he wins. He gets to be that big bad boogeyman that has the control over others’ lives he could only dream of. I think the worst way to punish someone like this is to let the world forget about him, while still remembering his victims. Let him rot by himself, with the whole world having turned its back on him. No one knows him, and he doesn’t have any power anymore. Edit: Okay, so I blundered with my explanation here. I think in the case of people like this guy, who are free in the population at large, we need to show their faces and names, so it's harder for them to trick more victims. I was trying to explain the reason why people censor the names and faces of these criminals, using Mr. Swirl as my example. I love how this video follows his crimes and how he was caught and not his life. Child abusers don’t deserve sympathy in any way or get any excuses. Edit: My wording is terrible. Okay. Let me try to explain what I meant. Of course spreading awareness is important. Sympathy was the wrong word to use. What I was referring to is people turning people that are clearly struggling with mental health (which causes them to act as they do) and twist it into some mysterious villain in some TV drama. Like in those true crime podcasts where there are jokes being made at the victim’s expense and the perpetrator’s actions are romanticized together with their mental illnesses and problems. These people need help. Not being made to be some fictional agent of evil and chaos. And with “following his life” I was referring to how a lot of the time true crime show the nuance of the perpetrators but completely jumps over the victims. It’s like they flesh out the perpetrator’s character and then go “oh and then he murdered some guy” and move on. I hope you can now understand better, what I was trying to say. I must admit my choice of words was quite tasteless and rushed. To be fair I didn’t think my comment would gain so much traction.

As someone who has worked in summer camps, we had to go through extensive child protection training. And here are the takeaways: NEVER wholeheartedly trust anyone in a position of authority over your kids. Predators always seek roles of power over kids. That’s why teachers, pastors, camp staff, parents, aunts, uncles, and more are all people who have higher chances of being abusers. It’s not that those roles create monsters, they attract them. And many are patient. They will take their time to build up a strong positive reputation and avoid getting a criminal record so they don’t show up on background checks. That way once they reach the point where no one will suspect them, they can hurt as many kids as they want without getting caught

But this is a complete misrepresentation of the MAiD program and I'm sick of it being portrayed as the Canadian government executing people left and right for 'filling out a bit of paperwork'. There's at minimum 7 conditions you have to meet just to be considered, including being of sound mind, not being under duress, having a terminal or permanent illness (which excludes mental illness completely at the moment) and having some kind of suffering that can't be alleviated by reasonable means. The assessment process is long and requires multiple doctors to testify that you meet these conditions, there's a ton of safeguards in place to avoid ineligible/insufficient proof, you have to re-confirm your consent and prove you still meet the conditions at the last step, and if you show resistance in any way even after final consent, approval is revoked. If you did a five minute google search you'd see all of the procedures that have to be taken to even be considered listed with the associated laws on the Government of Canada website. You'd also learn that the Netherlands has been doing medically assisted death since 2002 and have an even lower age limit than Canada, and y'all aren't out here pretending they murder 12-year-olds for having migraines or depression. If you don't agree with the idea of medically assisted dying, that's fine. But you don't get to misrepresent it to make yourself feel better about your opinion. tecnically speaking, parents and relatives are far more likely to be a threat to your children than some random stranger so its just sa boogeyman statistically speaking to be worried about guys like this. cause the people who are more likely to do something like this are the people that are trusted by them. which is the only reason he succeeded, using another child for that trust factor. Which makes me wonder how he convinced the guy. possibly drugs or money. those places have high rates of child homelessness and poverty.
@jasongusta7419 Жыл бұрын
thats how the government be
@kaitylerson811 Жыл бұрын
@ErniEQ148Planck precisely, forgot that part. You know how he would have likely operated? He would have found the loneliest child and befriended him. how do children become lonely? bad parents. lack of self esteem, bullying, low self worth. those kids stand out, especially in the eyes of a predator (or generally anyone pursuing a specific end goal or using others to get what they want, be that sex or anything else really) its that ability to see those weaknesses that make them so dangerous. As the lion who hunts the gazelle with the limp. there's; a reason why certain countries are worse than others for this kind of exploitation but it exists everywhere because no place exists without these types of people. That's why the cycles of neglect and abuse run parallel with sexual exploitation. It's why kids can become addicted to porn, video games, you name it. I mean, these same dynamics exist even without men like him. They can happen between children as well. gaining safety, security, autonomy, self love. Sex is a dangerous thing, it can give those intense emotions for things you might not have ever had. Think of it like drugs or alcohol. The reason people drink alcohol is because of how it makes them feel. Some people who become reliant on alcohol do so because its giving them something they've always wanted but never could manage to get, like confidence. Or to numb some sort of pain or distress. Sex works in very similar ways, emotionally. That's why the people who are most susceptible to it, most susceptible to sexual exploitation, most susceptible to narcotics, are the one's with difficult pasts. Ones without love, without safety. and how does the world react to that? by failing to see what makes these things possible, guaranteeing it just repeats, over and over. Look how we handled this. 9/10 people wish the guy was dead. as if that would cure anything. I've never seen the world improve through condemnation. I've seen it improved through understanding through. Like look at hitting your kids- for a very long time, that was normal. Now it would be utterly unthinkable to see a parent full on spanking their child in public. It's considered unethical because it creates large amounts of emotional distress and insecurity. this approach to behavior we want to minimize, doesn't work. Like the war on drugs. it didn't make anything go away it just turned it into a violent crime empire...same with this.

Sometimes (more than 1 in 25 cases, probably closer to 1 in 15 to 20 cases) we get it wrong and they are proven innocent on appeal or uncovering new evidence. 2. We should put them in prison for life instead, where we can make deals with them to undergo voluntary medical experimentation so we can find a cure to prevent future children from being harmed. It still deters some predators enough too. We can't violate the Geneva convention, but we can however, incentivize them with protective custody so they don't get beaten/killed/raped in prison given they continue to volunteer as test subjects.
