By Jove, I think I know what the modern man wants! He wants to be an animal. Only an animal knows what to do without being told (by its natural instincts). It does so by the Divine command quite without personal interaction with Him, apparently (so God is very present in the life of an animal without being there at all personally or consciously). And animals, so programmed by God, generally do not bother finding meaning and do whatever they please as if their instinct were meaningful. So man wishes to do whatever his instincts tell him. But his instincts tell him contradictory things such that if he were to follow them all he would either go mad or profoundly hate himself or both. So he must pick one path or the other and at times defy his instincts.

An old man and his teenage son went to take their donkey to market to sell. They where leading the donkey down the road when they passed a man who said to them "the donkey must be no good seeing won't ride it yourself" so the old man got up on the donkey and they continued down the road. Then they passed a couple of men who said "look at the rudeness of older generation, making his own son walk while he rides" so the father got down and the son got on the donkey and they continued. Then they passed someone else and he said "look at the rudeness of the younger generation, making his old man walk while he rides" so the father got on the donkey and they both rode down the road and they passed someone else who said "with both of you on it the poor donkey won't be worth anything by the time you get to the market, you've both got legs that work fine" so they got off and thought for a while, then the old man fetched a stout tree branch and they tied the donkey's feet to it and heaved it up over their shoulders and carried the donkey down the road. They were getting all kinds of strange looks from the people passing by, and when they where almost to the market they crossed a bridge over the river. On the bridge the donkey's foot got loose and it kicked at the old man and he dodged and dropped the donkey over the bridge and into the river. The donkey couldn't swim with three tied feet and drowned, and the old man and his son went home with no money and no donkey and the old man said, that's what you get for trying to please everyone.

Unfortunately, many Christians are spiritually immature, and are not prepared to have their faith challenged. They don't want to talk to you about it, because they they find you threatening their faith. A person who not only knows what he believes, but WHY he believes it, are quite comfortable to discuss differences with people he disagree with, because his faith is secure. I once talked to a Lutheran about your position on Communion. In the end, there was no harm to me: We're still right and you're still wrong ( ;-) ) , but now I have a better understanding of your position and why we differ. My advice to you would be this. 1) If the person mocks you for being a Lutheran or argues in bad faith, ignore him. He's probably not even a true Christian, because that is not how Christians deal with a difference of opinion. (And yeah, you could tell him that, and add some Bible verses to drive the point home.) (If you're young, it might be that he is just spiritually immature. I'd get some verses on conflict resolution, and ask the person to repent of his bad behavior. Don't expect an immediate positive response, but rather give him some time to reflect on what you said. A true Christian would repent eventually) 2) If the person treat you well, but have no interest in having a theological discussion with you, then don't push it, just accept it and carry on. (Unless ofcause there are differences on fundamental issues - such as the sufficiency of Christ, the virgin birth, the physical resurrection of Christ, etc. In those cases, make use of every opportunity to preach the gospel.) 3) If the person shows a genuine interest in your church, then have an open discussion with him. Explain to him why you believe what you believe, but do not try to force your believe on them. Remember Christians are called to witness, not to convince. The latter is the job of the Holy Spirit, and you will never be able to do it. I must say, as a Reformed person, I find myself in agreement with 99% of what is said on Lutheran Satire. I don't want to white wash our differences, they are certainly there and they are important. But we should also not exagerate our differences either - we have a lot more in common than what we disagree upon.
@funnyferret60645 жыл бұрын

The Anglican Church evolves on its feet. Lutherans came to a conclusion 500 years ago and have made no attempts to move on from it. The Anglican Church has constantly been questioning itself and it's purpose and it's theology- sometimes this works out well, like the Oxford Movement or Woman vicars. Sometimes this works out badly. But we move on from those quickly. It currently has to make peace with the world becoming less spiritually minded and I don't quite know how it'll do. But considering how ridiculously well Episcopalian churches are doing in the US, there is a place for the Anglican church in liberal modern society.

You cannot teach anyone who does not desire wisdom. By trying to cater to those who have no stomach for the word, you only deny those who crave it's sustenance, driving them away also. The only way to reach those other people is to make them want to learn, which can only be done by acting as Jesus's body in this world, & allowing him thru our faith & service to show the world his splendor and majesty, only then will men seek the Lord once more. I went to a Christian college and it constantly seemed like they were trying to reform the theological teachings of the church so as to fit in with our culture (ex. it's a Church of Christ college, and Church of Christ has historically not had female preachers, but they were trying to explain that when Paul said that a woman shouldn't teach a man he was being sexist and it was just a cultural thing). Christianity should be a remedy for a sick culture, but it seems the disease of our culture has infected many Christians. Cultures change, God does not.
