Same here in the UK, we had the dual carb civic into the 90s on the 4th gen Civics, I turbo'd mine while retaining the carbs (Spoiler alert: it didn't last long, but that was more related to the (lack of) spark control rather than the carbs themselves)

Hey D4A. I've a Toyota TE71 Liftback and it has the well known 2T 1.6L single carb engine, recently my father gave me some working carbs from a Honda cb750 four-k and an electric fuel pump. However, I've some doubts about which main jets I should get since these carbs are completely mechanical and they have the guillotine system, so the throtle response is theorically pretty fast and I can't afford to screw up a recently built engine from the ground up hah Cheers from south america, keep that MR2 rocking!
@d4a5 жыл бұрын
That's a very tough question. I assume you're talking about carbs that have flat slides? They are on the tricky side when it comes to tuning. But if you have a fully rebuilt engine I suggest an additional investment of 160$ into an AEM x series gauge that's gonna make tuning a lot simpler and definitely prevent you from blowing an engine. Here's an unboxing video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJCziHRqec15oc0 And here's an install video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gV7RiI2Zn8uUpdU

Would this conversion work on a supercharged 4age? im not too sure if the supercharger would be in the way or taken up by the supercharger itself.
@d4a5 жыл бұрын
The 4agze is definitely not the best candidate for this. I think you might be able to make it all physically fit but I doubt it's worth it. It would require an immense amount of fabrication, tuning would be a nightmare and it would end up costing more than is sensible. You could just remove the supercharger and do the carbs as on an NA engine but that's stupid too because the supercharged 4age has lower compression compared to NA (different pistons) and the end result would be likely very disappointing. Why not keep it supercharged? If you wanna do this get a NA 4age and start with that instead?

Most carbs are designed to work between 0 positive pressure and vacuum. Reverse the pressure and the spindle seals will generally blow by and leak. The jet size and resulting mixtures are tuned around that max 0-1 atm differential. Cars like the Lotus Esprit turbo enclosed the carbies in a box that was at manifold pressure as a fix. It wasn't a well regarded setup vrs the EFI that replaced it. Almost all the production car carby and boost setups are "suck through" not "blow into" arrangements for this reason. EFI ITB's and boost were used on the RB26 and SR20DET GTiR engines. Look these up in the forums and compare them to the RB25DET and SR20DET RWD variants which were single throttle body. The dyno charts and factory service manuals are all online so you can see what hardware was needed and how they compared.

how did you manage to get cv carbs to work without the factory airbox from the bike and or velocity stacks and a restrictive airfilter ?
@d4a4 жыл бұрын
I have velocity stacks. Factory airbox and restrictive air filter are not necessary. Sure, some carbs need them more than others, but usually it only really influences idle quality and very light throttle, both which you can easily correct with proper jetting and ignition timing corrections.
@alexxxxx123414 жыл бұрын
@@d4a is that due to the fact of in this case you have more mass airflow through the carbs instead of the factory application? Only asking because in my experience with cv carbs on bikes without the proper airbox the bike will idle but the smallest amount of throttle it will bog because the needle and slide wont lift due to what im assuming is turbulent flow across the inlet of the carb ?

You don't need older carbs, newer are actually often better because they also have a tps, which enables you to have 3d ignition maps. I think the 2003 r6 got fuel injection, so it doesn't have carbs at all, but fuel injected throttle bodies.

@@hassanreshat7447 i would think it would be as simple as making the intake manifold, connecting the carbs and adjusting the air to fuel ratio

very nice project . you connected the tps from the carbs on mr2 cable right? and what about with ecu? did you remap it before use the nodiz ecu? Τέλος συζήτησης Γράψτε ένα μήνυμα...

The tps on the carbs is connected to the Nodiz ignition ECU. The ECU has a basemap, it's enough for starters, but I tuned it later. Here's the ignition map video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmSXh3hjededd7M

Did you make more power with the bike carb setup?
@d4a3 жыл бұрын
I did make more power, but that's because I raised compression, upgrades cams etc. Carbs themselves won't make power unless the stock EFI is very restrictive. They will however change the power band, throttle response and sound.

Sure, why not.

You'd have more fun with the car doing a manual swap first.

I got a 2.0l 8v sohc mk4 golf. So would I just look for 2l bike carbs?
@LarryisControversial30004 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong, but the way I understand this is to look for a bike engine about half the size. So for you something in 900cc to 1100cc range. Bike carbs take in more air from what I have been told, about twice as much. Anything bigger could be too much carb(s) depending on application of course.
