Buying real estate is so exciting and emotionally exhausting at the same time. We close on our second property in Portugal in 7.5 days and I have been renovating and painting the vacation villa just to deal with my excitement and nerves. For our real estate history is was always a matter of being at the right place at the right time and of course being open to seize a great opportunity when it presented itself. Here in Taiwan, the countryside has many homes that look like three containers set in a U-shape. In the cities, many apartment buildings look like stacked containers, single or double wide. If you're looking for your repeated wish statement - looking for hostel-friendly property - then a series of connected containers may fit for wind control, security (able to use cameras and sensors), and sub-rental of various units. Baja may be the place to do that sort of thing. Great to go along with you on the search for what's to come.

The people are definitely a large part of why I love living in Baja. You always find someone to help and at most all they ask for their help is 'algo para la coca' (something to get a coke). The trail you did I think is something that people usually do over 2 or 3 days, so you were definitely ambitious. I haven't done it myself (yet), but there is supposed to be a lake and everything somewhere, which is special because as you said, water is an ongoing struggle here. During that time you were there, it did get pretty hot, but nothing like August/September hot... It is something to take into consideration, but as far as buying something a bit further from others might actually be a good thing. As I keep saying, security isn't as much an issue as you might think and construction will come that way anyway (unfortunately). As far as permitting restrictions, those can probably be changed...

I can see you both in Baja, especially since your Dad has come connections 'n such. At first I was really excited about Baja for you two. In the '90s I bought near Santa Teresa, Costa Rica and developed a hectare. Looking at how arid it is year round there, water is going to be an issue. You can get creative and with some effort make it work. I then immediately though about our future rising sea levels. My KZbin psychics say we will begin to see major problems in 10 years and Washington DC will have to be moved in 20 years. I mean, who knows, but Baja is surrounded. But on the other hand, I kind of see you there. Had I traveled there in the '90's I may have ended up there, it looks fabulous!!!! Can't wait to see what's next. XOXOXOX
