Update: Dad passed away 2 weeks ago. Thank you for commenting on his service, he was buried with Full Honors. My Dad kept telling us kids he helped save Clint Eastwood when he was in the military during the Korean War. *We never believed him!* Dad and Sampson were from Seattle, my Dad went Coast Guard becoming Commander of a Cutter and was called out to search for the pilot and plane. He met both men while writing up the report. Dad is 93 and still healthy, I have to call and apologize to him! Dad just had his 94th Birthday...and still remembers this

one of the most insane aspects of this whole ordeal for me is the fact that, had it not been for the error that resulted in the plane not having enough fuel, then anderson would have never lowered his altitude and samson (eastwood) would have certainly succumbed to the lack of oxygen due to the open hatch and died. its just downright miraculous that amidst the seemingly unending series of unlucky events for the men, one of those unlucky occurrences actually ended up saving eastwood's life.

So much respect to your dad 💯 I really mean that. But unfortunately most of the military are just pawns doing the dirty work for the elites and billionaires who benefit. Plus the amount of money passed around eveytime there's a war. Its disgraceful 1000's lose their lives for the greater good of their country when this is very rarely the case. Despite this, your dad will always be a hero ❤

Sort of reminds me of Steve Buscemi’s background. He was a firefighter in NYC before he became an actor. On 9/11 he dropped everything to join his former unit as a volunteer and help with search and rescue efforts. He wore a mask the entire time because he didn’t want publicity take the focus off of the other responders who he believed were the real heroes. He says he would still be a firefighter to this day if he didn’t find passion and success in acting so he continues to be an advocate and voice for FDNY anytime they are in need of community support.

Honestly and sadly(for fellow FF and others), if that’s correct, that he wore a mask(Besides the FF one), the entire time working down there, it saved him from a multiple amount of heath conditions later on and likely death for himself. In aviation, the term “water landing” does not exist. It’s used in the non-aviation world by civilians and one day may even become an accepted term that makes it into the dictionary. I believe the point was that if you’re a pilot and you land on anything that’s not a runway, it’s considered a crash. I’ve only flown single engines, but this is pretty basic if you’ve flown anything.

Its cool to hear a story about the Korean War. They dont talk about it enough. My father was in Korea on the front lines. He was an army infantryman. There isnt a day that goes by that he doesnt tell me a story about his experience. Hes almost 93 and still in pretty good health. I have tons of love and respect for him! Hes a hero in my book!
