In this video I talk about some of my thoughts about the EDC27 Torch, having used it as my EDC for the last 4-5 weeks or so.
There are some areas to think about in terms of the switch design, the UI and the lock-out functions. This is more a video sharing some ideas and feedback on this model, the first video I have done covers the UI, Charging, and Beam shots etc.
If you have any of your own ideas or feedback on this model, drop a comment below.

I carry in my front shirt pocket while doing deliveries at night-it's incredibly powerful,and in my shirt pocket,there is no chanceof it turning on accidently.Not only does it give you more then enough light to see adresses,that strobe will definitly blind an attacker. In fact,I hadn't been doing night deliveries because of difficulty seeing adresses-this ligh has changed all that

That slim form factor is a good fit for some, now if they could just integrate an easy way to change batteries that would be great.

I've only had the EDC 27 for a couple of days, but I specifically bought it for instant access to strobe as a temporary deterrent. I use lock 1 which prevents accidental activation of the more exposed button, but leaves the flat turbo/strobe button active. The flat button is a momentary switch so I'm not too concerned. Although lock 2 deactivates both switches and is not hard to unlock, the delay would defeat the purpose for which I purchased this light.

It depends how you use it and if you want instant access to Turbo. For me the Turbo is easy to activate, and can be a problem in pocket or bag. If it had a proximity sensor that might reduce the potential problem. Or I would re-design the switches/make them harder to press.

I got my EDC27 and it is perfect! you can not get one thing perfect for all people! so It depends on your needs and uses! the point of direct turbo mode in (Lock1) is completely right. but in my opinion, I think EDC27 Excellent choice: * The (Lock 1) is good for walking or hiking as a secondary flashlight so you can attach the clip to the belt or the sling of the backpack it gives you direct turbo and strobe mode. * The (Lock 2) works for daily carry in the pocket so you can prevent burning yourself by mistake. (just unlocking the EDC27 takes a few seconds this may be the only disappointment with it in a situation that need a fast reaction)

Some simple things could be done, such as making the button smaller, harder to press, more recessed - this would reduce the activation issue. I just try to convey my thoughts on it, others can decide for themselves. I don't want to be like the Olight fan channels that praise everything, yet never talk about things that they don't like.

@@MrBazReviews The second line of my first comment, I mean those who criticize everything they don't like! As for your channel, it is one of the best KZbinrs channels that do reviews of lighting products. Your presentation of your experience and comparisons is excellent because it gives a clear picture to everyone who wants to own it.

@@abobader4283 You always get that though, both extremes, ultra fanboyish praise, or heavy criticism. I try a more balanced approach, there is much to like here, but also a few things can be tweaked too.

Been using mine for about three weeks and feel it fills a tactical EDC niche. Very good battery life, readout, and although longer than most in this category, it carries quite well and flat. Since I don't front pocket carry, accidentally triggering it hasn't been an issue. So much about gear has to do with the flexibility of the user to adapt to it....

I think the overall concept and design works, but I think the switches could be tweaked a bit to perform better. It really depends how you carry it, the Turbo is too easy to fire off in my view, and there is no way you would put it in a backpack or bag without locking it out. Just a few things that could be changed to fix some potential problems.

As said in this video, locking your flashlight is very important! I forgot to lock out my Olight RX3 Seeker once and it burned a hole in my jacket! Luckily I wasn't out for long and noticed the smoke when I got back indoors, otherwise my whole jacket could have been caught on fire!

Having a can be off and activate Turbo, can potentially be an issue. I'm not sure I really need that functionality on something like this. I don't mind the second switch for Turbo/Strobe, but when it is on will be fine

Nice review and update about this model. Nitecore will surely fix those following issues on their future edc lineups. Anyways, Nitecore should be producing Tiny Monsters with REMOVABLE battery seriously (except edc like this or keychain) since most of the competitors gain advantage from this and sell it on a cheaper price like Sofirn and Wurkkos. Imalent also sell a powerpack of batteries which makes their high powered flashlights still usable after the batteries die. I think the main reason is that nitecore still struggles to reduce the heat output of their flashlights that's why they always make the turbo short and for the built-in battery so that it won't drain fast. Nitecore really wanted to achieve something compact and doesn't need noisy fans just to control the heat. But that's impossible since they make such a small aluminum body where heat scatters everywhere. So, their only solution is to make their high powered flashlights have a removable battery so that it can run on turbo longer (just 20-30 seconds) without a fear of draining the battery fast. Because heat is permanent on powerful flashlights.

Seems to be a trend towards built in batteries, as you say small models no problem there, but the TM range is pretty expensive premium stuff. Seems a hassle to have to send it back for a battery swap. I like playing with the TM or high power ones, yet I still find myself thinking about what works, comfort, good UI and nice beam. Mean more to mean than just pure output alone. I've used too many that almost were great, but let down with one or another area, usually something easy to fix or tweak. Or something that has a great tint/beam and sub par design body. The concept of this is good, with some adjustments it could be a top pick. The fan cooling isn't ideal for some, as the fans are small they have to run fast speeds, hence you get quite a bit of noise.

If anything, maybe almost like a safety switch for lock out? Like that have on most auto knives. Maybe that can be a thing because it would be quite fast for a on/off lock out and so you don’t have to mess with interface
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews Жыл бұрын
You could do that, or as I say do you need Turbo access when off? I don't really so I would remove that from the UI, problem solved. It is EDC by name, not tactical as such, even then most want strobe access not Turbo. It's not a huge problem if you use the lock out feature, you have to remember to do that though

@@MrBazReviews I don’t think those are mutually exclusive in my opinion, and use case of course. EDC to me means pocketable, has some low modes for daily use, but God forbid I need the turbo/strobe to deter someone, I have it there easily accessible from off where it tactically should be. I feel like with how long the turbo is it’ll be useless to have it buried. So instead of taking out, maybe some different switch design, or harder to press hardware. No sure, but great video and conversation.

A cool flashlight with an excellent design. I wanted it as soon as I saw it, without even turning it on! Despite all its shortcomings (small non-removable battery, not a long turbo mode, lack of normal moisture protection), a flashlight with a big plus. It is not like other flashlights! lack of support for memory cards, fm radio, clock, gps navigation. This is a joke)) Seriously, it would be better to make a side LED panel with rgb backlight. little use for it...

It's something different, and yes I do get bored at times looking at minor variations of the same thing. Hence I quite like this, and think overall it will be popular with many. I expect to see some refinements and more designs, perhaps soon enough. The idea is a good one in many places, but I would like to see some refinements as mentioned.

I know they say EDC in the name, but with the flat profile and instant access to turbo and strobe, I see this as a tactical light for the plain-clothes officer. Sadly, you can't have a tactical light that comes on when it shouldn't.

I'm not convinced about the instant access to Turbo/Strobe. I'd prefer a much harder switch action or even a different design. You do have to use the lock-out on this, not everyone agrees but I found that to be the case. I do like the shape of it though. Yes it's certainly more tactical concept then EDC

Is it normal when my battery drops below 75%, the 3000 lumens turbo mode only works for about 1-2 seconds then stepdowns to 15 or 65 lumens. My edc27 is not hot and is not near to any objects (it is not caused by the proximity sensor). Is it fine or mine is defective? Because when fully charged, the turbo works for about 10seconds. But when it drops to 75% (3.90V) the turbo runs for 1-2 seconds only :(
@MrBazReviews
@MrBazReviews Жыл бұрын
It should work with a battery less than that, it's only really low that the Turbo won't work. But if you have a high heat, then it will step down quickly, if you keep pressing the turbo it heats up and drops down faster
