Money does not buy happiness, it buys you the freedom to not worry about the things that should not matter. Healthcare, your families ability to live a comfortable life and so on. This takes a lot of stress away from your day to day life which does "buy you happiness" in that sense. Having been on both sides of the story where I had basically not enough to live to the point where I can now spend money without having to worry to much about how I can afford it. Sure there are limits I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination but I make enough to live a comfortable life without money being the thing that always haunt me in some way or another. So does money buy you happiness, no it does not but it does in many ways mean you have less stress which does make your life better.

This conversation about money and happiness reminded me of a poem I read by W.H. Davies : When I had money, money, O! I knew no joy till I went poor; For many a false man as a friend Came knocking all day at my door. Then felt I like a child that holds A trumpet that he must not blow Because a man is dead; I dared Not speak to let this false world know. Much have I thought of life, and seen How poor men's hearts are ever light; And how their wives do hum like bees About their work from morn till night. So, when I hear these poor ones laugh, And see the rich ones coldly frown Poor men, think I, need not go up So much as rich men should come down. When I had money, money, O! My many friends proved all untrue; But now I have no money, O! My friends are real, though very few.

@9:06 "surround yourself with ppl you want to be and it'll be 70% easier. That is the cheat code to life." The people you surround yourself with is super important yet arguably the hardest to properly nail down! In my experience, the best solution is living in a coliving space that fits with your needs. It's not just about being selective, it's about putting up the right filters and attracting the right people. We have limited time each day so we personally can't afford to qualify each person who enters your life. Before they reach you, they should already be qualified in some way even if that's just being in the same place.

The few KZbinrs that I share or shared this mentality are Airrack, Meet Kevin, and maybe the Paul Brothers (a few years ago). There really aren’t many other people that are constantly working, constantly putting out content, and constantly growing with a mission to get to the very top. Tommyinnit or whatever his name is (was on Impaulsive) might be up there as well. Stradman in the car scene. They are a rare breed.

Money make disappear difficult and enjoy life at the best of your possibility, when you have no money you're blocked, you need just to have enough money to get rid of the annoying stuff and focus on what you like. For example I'm a student and broke, I love studying and I'm keep going with scholarships, but if I fail a single exam bye bye to my free home and food. Yeah, i just want to study, but I have to follow ridiculous rules and If I only fail to submit documents I'm out. And it's happened to Erasmus student to lose scholarship because of poorly written and only country language documents...

Almost everyone gives the same answer to this question, because it is obvious and simple: Money cannot fix terrible sickness or loss; it can relieve many stresses and give freedom to pursue interests; it can allow one to help friends and family; some people get corrupted, etc. There is nothing profound about the question or answer.

99% of people don't have enough money to travel around the world and/or to pursue their dreams. Those are people who just know money buys happiness, and there's no doubt about it. You can't stress enough how easy it would be to just not be worried every day with a huge amount of money. When you can take care of people close to you, it's a gamechanger in terms of happiness

@@kris3451 but it does scale. 100k in the bank relevies a lot of short term worries. its rare to have a $100k dollar problem. 1 million relieves most intermediate problems its take very bad decade to ruin your life. 10 million yeas gonna be difficult to imagine any external factors leaving you with any real worries for about 100 years. so it completely scales. and goes past I'm ok and my bills are not an issue.
@humpteedumptee8629
@humpteedumptee8629 Жыл бұрын
@@kris3451 there's also studies saying that happiness don't cap out at any income level. and your using false equivalencies. it has nothing to do with "felt good" its the ability to reduce problems. its literally the exact opposite logically. it don't take personal experience of I have $495305934057032573 to realize that would be a more secure life than $50. under that standpoint the people doing studies opinions are irrelevant. as there are very few cash in the bank millionaires. (your literally logically inconsistent twice, but ill still reply) it don't take that much life experience to know problems occur. said problems cost money. obviously their are diminishing returns. at some point you can easily fix any problem and it don't effect your daily life. but humans are proactive and when that is achieved they will automatically think forward and gain additional comfort in knowing the future in secure. piece of mind is happiness. more money will always equal more piece of mind. the only time money don't buy happiness is if someone is uneducated and has horrible financial habits. so if you want to next ask "what about people the get too much money and use it poorly leading to lifelong debt and loneliness"? "why thanks for asking! I don't care about said people. that's not me and I don't concern myself with other peoples stupid decisions unless they sign my check or can cast votes in a chamber. it simply is irrelevant as the expectation was never that everyone has equal ability".
@humpteedumptee8629
@humpteedumptee8629 Жыл бұрын
@@kris3451 its logically inconsistent. because your bases for the trend is not accurate (which is the definition of fallacious). they are in general happier. no one ever once said all people will be happy. there are rich people with schizophrenia, some have partners getting railed out and cant afford a divorce. it was never implied or stated they cant be unhappy. what was stated and maintains is they have less reasons to be unhappy. so the richer you are the less external issues can derail your life therefore you are going to have less worries. outside of the small chance you have some debilitating illness that cant be medicated effectively (which falls under boohoo i had to deal with that either way). or internal situations you caused yourself (which falls under i don't care about other peoples organically made non manipulated bad decisions). its really not even debatable more money equals more piece of mind. piece of mind is fundamentally necessary for happiness. there's no need to be pedantic and make up 1 off scenarios trying to act like money don't buy all the things that make people happy. obviously we all know missing limbs sucks to whoever. but such things are irrelevant as the effect is the same regardless of who. and even such things effect you less with more money. you cant compare "I cant get a job better than a couple bucks over min wage as I'm physically incapable of 80% of jobs in general. out easily out preformed in the ones I can get. maybe they will take pity on me. hopefully I'm not in a red state cause the generosity of the state will be maybe 1000 a month and some real trash insurance options!". to "yea im upset i lost my leg but in the grand scheme of things ill always be petty about it. but at least im not surviving at the bottom of society." there is literally no way to logically explain how having money is not better. out side of making up extreme examples. and even than its simply better. and accepting there is a diminishing return is not the same as saying there is no return. obviously the first couple million return a great deal of piece of mind. and going from 20-50 million simply returns less. at that point your working on pet projects, legacies, and future proofing your next generations. your well beyond what could derail my life. but it still adding piece of mind. and piece of mind is the root to happiness. and its adjustable. this is when you shift to "why do you think legless jerry deserves more". fine ill answer "i dont care. legless jerry is made up. i just made him up. that is an entirely different conversation." the dude said his first move was retiring his mom which equals buying piece of mind.

@@kris3451 bro your dense asf. you literally equated "felt good" in reference to a drink. and said extrapolating this 101011 would be better. the reason its a false equivalency is its not based on "felt good". its based on "reduces bs and provides piece of mind". so by default its logically inconsistent. stop and read slowly. stop trying to make some clever point when you cant handle basic logical consistency. and stop putting words in my mouth and twisting them to try to be right. its not about your opinion. its about what is logically consistent. if you cant first be logically consistent. than i suggest reading about logic. also its typically poor practice to talk in absolutes. and i didnt say "more money = more happiness" (read slowly, twice if necessary, your putting your own words). i siad more money= more piece of mind which equals more happiness. as you cant be happy without piece of mind. see happiness is a postive add, piece of mind is negative subtractor (it removes anxiety and stress). your skipping half the equation. piece of mind means your emotionally stable, physically secure, and not stressed. they means you have more bandwidth to brush shit off. becasue you know you have the resources to deal with the issue. would you rather have 50 bucks and broken arm. or 5 million and a broken arm? the 50 buck guy is about to have a way worse 3 months. its really not complicated to see how his piece of mind is in tact. his loses are marginal to the guy who will be lucky if he can even make money.
@humpteedumptee8629
@humpteedumptee8629 Жыл бұрын
@@kris3451 it does not matter because its not a logically consistent comparison. as in at a fundamental level your logic is not aligned.. im not sure how your not seeing that your comparing something that adds, and another thing that subtracts. and lines are going up. you would need to add an entire separate chart as an intermediate. you might be able to make a point about how adding temporary loss of inhibition and loss of external threats (both loss) lead to a state of declined concerned over stressors and concerns. leading to a easier to maintain state of happiness. that would be the closet argument that is logical in comparing alcohol and money in relation to happiness. which is basically saying the same thing as if your to drunk to know you have problems its temporarily as good having to resources to deal with your problems. you should study epistemology and rhetoric. you would find it enjoyable.

@@Nicolas-L-F That's a fair analysis because that's all we've ever known. The trick is that the self-actualizing individual does not seek more and more ... they are comfortable with what they need and they become much more interested in social stability and equity than they used to be. It's only a hypothesis - but if you could establish a system that enabled and nurtured self-actualization for as many people as possible; you may even end up with an upward-moving, continual spiral of social self-actualization.

I think what he's saying is that it's relative. For most people it does when it's about fulfilling basic necessities like food, home, healthcare, etc. After that it also definitely could but it would depend on the person and it would have diminishing returns. Personally I think that money can give you momentary happiness at any time. But for long term meaningful joy in life I think it's also crucial to learn to not depend just on things that money can buy.

There's a difference between happiness and fulfillment. Money has the potential to make you happy via not having to worry about issues not having money causes. However, it might not fulfill you. Fulfillment is finishing a good book, working on a project, building your hobbies etc.

@@KiefsChingdom but you are wrong. He didn't "start businesses" - he was a Spectrum Kid that made videos with a formula that worked and then was invited into the business world. You will never start a business. You will never be accepted into the business class. Keep playing the lottery of ignorance and get back to me in 5 years.

@@teugene5850 It sounds like you have a hard time accepting that he’s always been about turning his channel into a business so he could do what he wanted with his life. He’s a prototypical American entrepreneur/capitalist, and there is nothing bad or wrong about that. He creates jobs and makes things people enjoy. Have a good one, and don’t be too embarassed about your irrelevant and incorrect personal pot shots. They gave me a good laugh.

@@KiefsChingdom Thanks for your reply...I have no problems with Mr Beast and his channel... his content is low-brow and juvenile but he does have a huge audience (so who am I to judge?) However, your discourse around the "prototypical American Entrepreneur" sounds to me eerily familiar to certain illiterate holy men wandering the desert asking "where is the god, my god and only god?" - what you have done, like these religiously obsessed archaic charlatans, is manufactured an "ideal type" in your head about how and why wealth is created in the US (which is false and horribly propagandistic. But since you don't like these words (as you thoroughly believe the Neo-Liberal ideology you have been spoon feed since your were a baby), let me use smaller, more Sesame Street language for you: Wealth creation is the extraction of value from labour (And yes, the "Left" is lame also). Your boy Jimmy here, (while admittedly very personable and articulate) is the new face of a corrosive Capitalism no longer able to reproduce annual growth above 3%. The US (and your beloved Entrepreneurial Spirit) is in decline PRECISELY BECAUSE the myth of the "rugged individual entrepreneur" bravely creating wealth for the country IS A MYTH (Oh God, where art thou???) Have i made myself clear, or do you need mommy to change your pee pee sheets? Enough.

@@teugene5850 Theres still time for you to move to North Korea if you really think communism is greater than capitalism. You won’t be able to access Lex’s pod there unfortunately, but sacrifices must be made to follow your values. You wouldn’t want to listen to him anyway since he’s just another entrepreneurial capitalist “extracting value from labor” as you said. My guess is you haven’t achieved anything in your own life so instead of figuring out how YOU can do better you blame the system and lash out or insult others. It’s sad to read and I hope your life gets better.

I genuinely loved the part when he talks about how to not take what people say to you so seriously because some of them just have it "wired" in them to pursue the passion that they do in life. And you might not be like that and it's totally fine.

I know people who’ve always had money and live very comfortable lives and they say money doesn’t buy happiness. As someone who’s had money and is now struggling money my not make you happy but it helps and you really can’t put a price on not having to worry about money. People who’ve never struggled with money don’t know what it’s like to go paycheck to paycheck or have double bills.
