Micah has obviously manipulated Dutch throughout the entire story, Micah told the O'Driscolls where Arthur would be, if you remember, Micah is the one who chooses Arthur's vantage point, then Micah told Dutch after the meeting that before they left, Arthur said he was going to head off on his own for a while to prevent Dutch from searching before the right time. Then afterwards he acted like he was fooled by the O'Driscolls in order to throw suspicion off of him. That's also why Pearson delivers the news, isn't it ironic that O'Driscolls run into Pearson and instead of immediately shooting like they are known to do, they talk? Micah made a deal and set the whole thing up to get rid of Arthur and further get inside of Dutch's head.

Theory doesn’t work when you account for Colm’s dialogue. My guess is Micah acted alone if anyone betrayed Arthur but already had Dutch bewitched enough at this point to dismiss Arthur’s absence at the fork. Either way, it was definitely a turning point in Arthur and Dutch’s relationship. The Dutch of olde would have scorched the earth looking for him knowing how Arthur would never intentionally deviate from a plan.

Yeah it does not make sense that Dutch would be in on it. Why would he want to lose Arthur? It makes sense that Dutch did not rescue him because how would he know where to find him? Also, Dutch is not exactly brave or heroic. Either Micah was in on it or it was not an inside job. I kind of feel like the O’driscolls would have mentioned that Micah sold him out why they had him captured if that were supposed to be the case. I think the mission is meant for you to begin to question Micah’s intelligence and Dutch’s decision making rather then to make it seem as if those 2 are plotting against Arthur to have him eliminated.

Playing as Arthur or anyone else in the gang wouldn't work because no one would redeem themselves. It would be weird to have a character redeem themselves and then just continue to be part of an outlaw, murdering, thieving gang. They could make a Red Dead game based on the old days of the gang, but not a Red Dead Redemption

Maybe they attempted to get rid of Arthur but obviously failed and when Dutch told Miss Grimshaw to sit by Arthur he and Micah used that time to come up with an excuse. A pretty poor one though because they didn't even try to hide that it was rehearsed.

This was the turning point for me. After this I knew something isnt right with Dutch. When Arthur made it back to camp he didnt seem that happy Arthur even asked later on that "you were coming for me Dutch right" and Dutch just answers with a couple of words vaguely it all feels disingenuous

I think, Micah and Colm did make plans to remove Arthur. Micah's motivation coming from the fact that even if Micah was fast enough or strong enough to kill Arthur, he would always be the first person in the group to be blamed and held responsible for any wrong doing put against Arthur. Additionally the fact that Micah is probably Arthur's Martial match, and the game does allude to the idea that Micah is a self-centered coward. Now from Dutch's perspective Hosea is his "Right hand man" and Arthur is more likely his "left hand man", to the point. "If you can see the right, beware of the left" Arthur is the Road captain, if anything needs done or talking isn't enough the group turns to him. So from that train of thought the group may have made the mistake of subconsciously assuming that Arthur is infallible. So when Micah executes his plan, and Dutch expects to meet Arthur at the fork. It wouldn't too difficult to convince Dutch that Arthur might be already on his way back and/or that they should give him sometime to "turn-up". It was common in a world without phones for communities to wait before, "jumping to conclusion"

Micah and Dutch's stories are almost identical. The "we kept waiting for them to jump us" and the "we waited, but you never showed". Identical. They're lying about something. O'Driscoll seemed confident that Dutch was going to bring the whole gang to rescue Arthur, so I don't think that Arthur being offered as part of a truce is what happened. Colm captured Arthur to use as bait, Dutch and Micah figured it out, and they decided to leave Arthur behind. Their story is probably the truth, but they're leaving out the rest of it. They didn't explain why they just returned to camp. That's what they lying about. Lying by omission. Could Micah have set it up? Possibly, but Dutch didn't attempt to rescue Arthur like Colm thought. I doubt Micah would come up with such a complicated plan just to get rid of Arthur. He'd just shoot him while on a mission and claim they were attacked. Or, as what likely happened here, figured out Arthur was captured, and leave him behind. He just manipulated Dutch (as usual) into agreeing to it.

When Arthur didn't show up, Micah just started in with his serpent tongue crap, and talked Dutch into just going back to camp. I'm guessing the O'Driscolls were supposed to send word the next day to draw Dutch in after he stewed awhile. Heck, maybe Micah had a triple cross in mind to get rid of Arthur yet also backstab the O'Driscolls to the Pinkertons. (Someone mentioned a DLC... I want a DLC where you can play Arthur with 20/20 hindsight. Kill Micah while rescuing Sadie... shoot Colm at that meeting... shoot TB guy... or even better just shoot the money lender at first opportunity.)

Arthur was the only thing that kept the gang together and everyone knew it. If Arthur turned on Dutch the gang would have backed him. Micah always had Dutch's ear because the only thing that either one of them was ever concerned about was the money. They saw Arthur's demise as killing 2 birds with one stone. A truce with the O'driscolls and complete control of the gang afterwards.

I think Micah heard Pearsons story. Asked about it from the O'Driscolls themselves and then told them that as a peace offering he would give them Arthur because it would be mutually beneficial to them both. Even in the first chapter you can tell Micah is jealous of Arthur. He comments on why Arthur gets to stay in a nice place to himself while he has to sleep with the others. Arthur was in Micahs way so secretly Micah was always trying to get the better of him. He specifically has Pearson tell Dutch so later Pearson takes any blame that might have fallen on Micah. Then after Arthur gets taken. Dutch and Micah goes to the place where they're meant to meet Arthur and Micah either tells Dutch the truth right then and there and Dutch has to lie about it later. OR the most likely Micah said that Arthur often goes off on his own so maybe he's following the O'Driscolls or something and not to worry about it. That they have the camp to watch over just in case the O'Driscolls have other plans while they're away. Dutch may have went along with this because the situation feels odd to him.

So they take on a bunch of high risk missions and obvious setups but Arthur's blind loyalty and being too stubborn to die was playing foil to their plans completely unknowingly.

Dutch always gave me weird and sinister vibes. I don't think he ever really cared about Arthur and John. He saw two young and innocent orphan boys that he could exploit for his own personal gain. What dutch didn't expect though was for Arthur and John to start seeing through his lies once they got older and wiser. Once they started questioning Dutch and his actual motives the other members of the gang also started to question him. Then ofc along comes an equally sinister Micah. Someone who Dutch feels might be able to help him get rid the only two people smart enough to fully see through his bullshit and succeed in exposing/taking him down. What Dutch also fails to realize is that Micah is not only sinister but also in it for himself as well. This in the long run is even more of a threat then Arthur and John who at least have loyalty something that Micah has none of. Long story short is that Dutch has loyalty but it's weak and when shit hits the fan and things don't go according to plan he will turn on those he calls allies as long as it means that he's the one walking away.

Notice that Charles, Lenny, John, Bill, etc. are not at camp when you get back. It is likely Dutch had all the men looking for Arthur and they just couldn't find him. I think Micah was always working for the Pinkertons even before Blackwater. He became a voice for the dark side of Dutch and Arthur kept pulling Dutch out of traps Micah laid to nab him. So Micah set up shit with Colm to get Arthur, who kept ruining most of the O'Driscoll's plans and would give Dutch to the law, a chip for Colm getting the law off his back. (Never made sense to me that Colm would hand Dutch in but this does)

I think Miah used to be an O'Driscol and wanted to get back in the gang and his peace-offering to regain Colm's good will was to help set up the whole plan. You can see through the beginning of the mission how good Miah is at manipulating Dutch and drawing his attention to whatever he wants and diverting Dutch from very logical suspicion. I don't think Dutch was in on it or would have ever sacrificed Arthur at this point in the game. I think Miacah just knew exactly the right ways to make Dutch not worry about it and assume Arther was fine and just doing his own thing when they didn't meet at the crossroad.

I think it is Micah whispering in dutch's ear that people in the gang like or trust Arthur more then Dutch. Micah started and got in dutch's ear or like other people have said Arthur is a sacrificial lamb so dutch can retire like dutch said in chapter one he was getting to old for the life Arthur was his golden ticket

I have another theory. Colm's line "I've missed you Arthur"... I think when Arthur was a kid he was with Colm's gang. The etymology of Morgan has Welsh and Irish roots. It's not inconceivable that Arthur being kidnapped by Dutch had some sort of play in the feuds origin... Or possibly his family defected to Dutch leaving Colm

I'm at this point of the game right now and there are several things that bug me a lot. First, the one you mention. It's really shifty to see everyone so "oh, we didn't notice you were kidnapped until now". Also, the fact that Arthur is up and running some weeks later (spongebob french voice) with the clothes he was kidnapped and the exact amount of money he had... And even the horse he had... That really took me out of immersion. A realistic way of that event happening is, they kidnap himburn his clothes, loot his stuff, and kill his horse. I think, as you said, production got sloppy at some points.

That’s what I thought, the game was spoiled for me. But I’m only in chapter 4 and I had this gut feeling that Dutch and Micah talked at the crossroads saying he left or something. I think that’s about the time Micah started in with Dutch. Hell I knew something was up when in chapter 2 before it was spoiled Dutch said ‘Arthur, you’ll be the first to turn on me’ Arthur said ‘what’s that supposed to mean, not a very smart thing to say’ I had a feeling then that Dutch was getting paranoid. He raised Arthur basically, no reason to not trust him.

I definetly felt like they set Arthur up, just some of the hidden dialogue from Dutch in camp long before this happens, lead me to believe Dutch was already losing his marbles and getting suspicious of Arthur. He sure pushed to get Micah out of jail, and Sean.

I think the deal was colm could shoot arthur in exchange for peace. Instead colm took him away. Like dutch wasnt shocked at all arthur had been shot or missin. Anyways something DEFINITELY happened

I always presumed that dutch and micah entered a sort of blood sacrifice of giving arthurs life to create a peace treaty with colm. Athur escaped, making the feud continue.

I think Dutch was being manipulated and Micah was scheming to get rid of Arthur. Micah was trying to get rid of Arthur to clear the way as number two in the gang, and delete Arthur's influence over dutch. I am surprised Arthur didn't take out micah sooner.

I can point out 3 times I’m almost positive Dutch tried to set up Arthur. Like 3 CLEAR times. But I want it confirmed if it’s true. He been trying to kill Arthur since this mission. The first time he failed. Remember Arthur is the true gunslinger of the group. A lot of people want him dead just cause how many people he killed.

Personally (and before watching this video) It felt like the first red flag and somewhat foreshadowing what would happen between Arthur and Dutch down the road- At this point, Dutch really didn't think much of Arthur getting caught and probably DID THINK he went his seperate way after the mission. His surprise may be sincere but it's the first red flag upon realizing even if Dutch had the thought of something was wrong, he wouldn't pursue it and move on. Probably no different than what happened to Mac until Arthur brought up that Milton killed him. His concern for others has its limit up until it becomes an act and this is that borderline considering when Arthur is held at knife point, Dutch just turns his back to Arthur and walks away showing his true colors.

@@willobrien7108 The game was originally going to have more missions for Arthur and more for John. Arthur also had a few missions in Blackwater and I believe 2 in New Austin while John's story was supposed to have more in New Austin as well.

why colm spilled his plan to him capturing the whole dutch gang, if from the start both gang leader had d agreement of offering him for peace? oldriscol kept him alive to execute colm plan, but dutch gang will never show up. its all micah doin, he played both gang all he wanted was to erase arthur. if arthur tell dutch what colm tolds him this probably lead to another plot, knowing dutch had already change of heart he felt guilty and theres no turning back now, thats why he ride with micah till end of story.

We all know Micah was working with the Pinkertons. Arthur being Dutch's right hand would weaken the gang if something happened to him. Maybe Micah was working with Colm too.

Micah and Dutch were doing something together. Dutch always called Arthur his son but, at the end when Arthur was dying telling him he changed his ways. But he tried his best always to be there for Dutch, Dutch walked away. Micah has beat the shit out of Arthur and Dutch leave him to suffer and die! Not exactly what a father would do.

@@kermitthegod1153 I actually had Dutch do strange things as far back as Chapter 2, we're in Horseshoe Overlook and he just says "You'll probably betray me before the end" or something along those lines, real strange behaviour. He gradually gets worse I think as the story progresses and loosing Hosea is pretty much the tipping point.

I think for sure Dutch and Micah were in on this. I think more likely it was just Micah, and then he told Dutch afterwards. Rockstar probably cut those lines of dialogue to make it less obvious that that is actually what happened and to keep those of us that noticed this wondering.
