Turns out once you have a couple entry point glitches, programs just crumble to pieces. Kinda reminds me of the common wisdom with servers where, if you have physical access to the hardware, you (the software developer) have already lost the battle.

This is so glorious, and reads like an April Fools joke. "It'll warp to a location based on the enemy music volume", "Some enemies like bemos don't update the value", "Don't go too far into the baby dodongo room as to spawn them, or you'll mess up the music volume". This really sounds like an OoT glitch paradoy, the fact that it's real makes it better 😁

Based on MrCheeze's Pastebin, it looks like this was being poked around on January 17th, which is the same day as the GDQ run for OoT.

"You can warp to arbitrary scene A, then setup a new enemy music volume, then die to warp again to scene B, and so on!" This feels like huge for longer categories.

There's limitations from some scenes not having any enemy music, though (boss scenes don't, for example). Then you can't chain to a new location (unless you have a way to use Farore's Wind, which can be used to store the entrance value while you go somewhere else to set the volume.)

Likewise. This is gonna turn several categories into a mess. It's an amazing find regardless. This is insanely game breaking and I don't think a lot of people want to play on gamecube now, especially someone like myself who only plays on N64, or played. Haven't really ran in years

@@Valientlink I think another issue that needs to be taken into account (especially for older games like OoT) is hardware availability - GC was discontinued 17 years ago, which immediately rules a lot of people out of the running when it comes to having to change consoles just to remain competitive.

@@rosstaylor8954 It would lead to WAD being allowed probably. It might be for top 10% like dolphin for OoT, haven't really seen it used though. People had discs when any% did the credits warp in Kokiri. but they aren't allowed in MQ I think. Japanese GC discs aren't easy to come by and are pricey. Still, it's basically changing versions but GC has a tiny bit less input lag than VC and the pausing isn't that bad. I'm more unenthusiastic how categories will probably end up looking. Some limitless warp, that's a big thing. Only thing we can do is wait to see how it's routed or how broken it can really be

I don't know why entrance 1E00 specifically would be coded in such a way that it'd look for the enemy volume value to set the next entrance. Was it intentionally coded in, or is that just a "byproduct" of some other code?

Is it possible to wrong warp on any map or is DC just special because it has so many moving pillars? Are there some areas that don't have any dynapolys?

Many have them - but DC has unusually many due to the jaw and moving pillars. And not every scene has the loading planes you can use for it, either. It's just a very convenient place.

Question, can this work on the US/JP versions of vanilla GC OoT from MQ/collecttors edition discs without being played on gamecube hardware, such as on bizhawk? Or must dolphin be used?

The frame buffer won't have the gamecube/wii-specific hack of updating only when you pause. Instead, depending on the emulator/graphics plugin/etc, it might update every frame or never update at all. Also even when it does update, the values won't match that of the Gamecube/Wii. (Actually, even Dolphin doesn't get the values exactly correct.)

which gamecube version of the game is this? I know there is the version where you can play vanilla and master quest, there is also the bundle release with majoras mask and the windwaker demo

This is faster than Ganonfloor, which in turn is faster than the wrong warp from Deku Tree.

@@skeleton_craftGaming There's already some WRs set using Ganonfloor which you can check. But the fact that it skips having to get bottle and skips having go through all of collapse, are some differences that come to mind. _This_ is faster than Ganonfloor for one reason only. It skips the final collapse cutscene before the Ganon fight, which is over a minute long.

You mentioned each pause only has a 50% chance of of filling in the correct buffer, but is the visual cue reasonably identifiable? Also I think the fact that you can store the glitched entrance with Farore’s Wind and keep chaining it based on the enemy music volume deserves its own video. This is just a whole new level of broken!

You can't know whether a pause worked or not. You just have to do it enough times to be confident for your personal risk/reward level. (I think ganonfloor is like this also.)

When you look up that entrance index, which reads from far beyond the actual length of the entrance table, it ends up looking at data that happens to vary.
