probably the most egregious water related practice i’ve seen is when they take the cap off before giving the bottle to you and not give you it, forcing you to down it all at once instead of budgeting it to last longer.
@celindraaa4 ай бұрын
u can prevent this by going there with the cap already off and hide it in ur pockets and putting it back on as soon as you leave their sight

I believe they do this for safety reasons, as a water bottle with a cap on it could be filled and used as a weapon. Bit of a bs reason though and some people take their own bottle caps with them now.

I used to work in festivals. They have devolved into a soulless cash grab. Long lines to get festival tokens (which are virtually impossible to get a refund for) to get in another line to get an overpriced, watered-down drink. Longer lines for toilet with police standing by ready to kick you out if you can't hold it any longer. When I started working in the industry i was passionate about it, by te end of my career I'd get anxious and depressed having to go to work. 12 hour back to back shifts for a flat rate. No weekend pay rate, no overtime. Go support your local artists at bars and pubs.

Open'er is the fancy expensive option and to be honest it wasn't that bad (though I don't have any other large fest experience to compare). Most of the mud was avoidable thanks to the rubber tracks throughout the territory, each artist on the main stage was given plenty of time to setup and it sounded really good. The only problem was drinking water. Technically they had free water - in one truck, with lines being long AF. And only very few shops sold water. It was MUCH easier to buy alcohol than water.

I uploaded a vlog from this year's Graspop Metal Meeting a couple of days ago and I hate how much I can relate to your video. Very accurate though and the point about nostalgia is interesting. Obviously festivals are inviting these big popular bands that have been around for a long time because they have many fans and that sells tickets. But you're right that for many people it's about nostalgia and not just the quality of the music and that is something newer bands can't compete with in the same way.

Rain has impacted every major festival I have attended. I went to both Day for Night fests in Houston and we got torrential rain right in the middle of Aphex Twins set, besides discomfort they had to take down a light display because of the wind. This actually led an unforgettable encounter with some kind strangers who sheltered me under a tarp and gave me a bottle of Jager. Then next year we got the same rain during NiN. They had to shorten their set by 30 minutes. It’s too bad Day for Night doesn’t happen anymore because they had great selections and an excellent Venue.

I've regularly been to festivals since 2003 in germany. Sure, there were neighbors with disgusting music tastes or the weather was bad. But at even at the bigger Festivals (Summerbreeze and Wacken 2004) there was always the opportunity to buy stuff (food, water and alcohol) at the local grocerie store before the Bands were playing. It even became a kind of festival tradition for me because its just awesome to see regular stores full of metal people.

The last time I went was a little sketchy near the end of the last day tho, they way oversold tickets and homeless people from the surrounding atlanta area were just hopping the fence and wandering around yelling at the sky and stealing things. Honestly its too bad they got sued by some asshole that wanted to open carry his guns at a packed beer and weed themed music festival. Now they have to have them at smaller and smaller venues with worse and worse acts cause they can't afford the insurance or security needed to host it in a public park if people are gunna be waving guns around.

It really is pretty tiring to see the only rock acts that get hyped up by the industry be the old ones. It’s like they just decided to stop caring about anyone after arctic monkeys. Old people always talk about how “rock is dead” or whatever cause they don’t see the new artists get mainstream attention, and stuff like festivals only giving a shit about nostalgia acts has probably contributed a fair bit to that.

The festivals I went to (in Europe) all offer water taps to refill your soft water pouches (no bottles with caps for safety reasons) or plastic cups as often as you need to. Having attendees dehydrate and causing bad rep is obviously more damaging than losing out on some bar revenues. People will still buy a lot of alcoholic beverages anyway.

I was at a free music festival organized by my city. On the 3rd day, main stage, the first band performing was a very popular, Polish 80s rock band Bajm. I came there to see them, but the experience was ruined by the fact, that right after Bajm, two rappers were performing, so kids decided to go to Bajm just to get a good place to see the next shows, and then just sat down on the ground, started vaping and playing frickin cards. On the ground, in a crowd at a rock concert. I kicked some boy liek 5 times because he decided that sitting pretty much on my feet was a good idea. Bajm did play good though. For another band, Lady Pank, me and my friend had to travel through the city to another stage. There wasn't any issue with a bad crowd. They were either metalheads or middle aged men, they were having fun, enjoying the show and didn't ruin the experience at all.

Depends on what kind of a festival, I enjoy psytrance ones as they last like a week, almost nobody ever drinks alkohol so there are no dangerous situations, everybody is on molly or acid instead so they are more welcoming, there is a lot of nature avaiable, you get meditation tents and stuff for a change of pace. Last time I been to one before corona they even provided shower and toilet trailers that were cleaned and maintained every day, was as clean as can be in such a place. But in general yeah in one on of the earlier editions I went to the toilet once, saw how it looked and proceeded to not take a shit for almost a week.
