I've done about 7.5 days of no sleep. That shit was scary. Auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations. Inability to distinguish reality from not. Unable to go back to sleep at the end without being "drugged" thanks nyquil.

@BitByte1003 this was probably over 15 years ago, but auditory I could hear my mom calling my name when her and my dad were out of town for an anniversary trip. Visuals were shadows moving in the corners of my vision. Tactile would have been the feeling of being touched by someone trying to get your attention. That's the best i can remember. Sadly, the journal I kept to log my experience has been long lost.

Honestly, found the end of it after the escape a bit unrealistic. If I know for a fact that the US government used me as a lab rat, I'm now indestructible, and that death will only be a release from being haunted by vengeful phantoms, there's no way a bunch of TLA mooks in black vans would intimidate me out of grabbing one of their guns, taking them out while tanking everything they can throw at me, stealing their van, driving to every government facility I can find (starting at the white house and working down) and going full "Terminator police station scene" on their ass until either everyone's dead or the indestructibility wears off.

Ending had a sweet sadness....he was never going to truly escape like T.... mainly because he was already suffering inherently from insomnia before the experiment.. instead his own escape came in the form of release in death, no suffering like his mother and not like the other test subjects...his mother inherently saved him, from the spectres..the vengeful dead and from ultimately a miserable sleepless life. Great story.

Spoiler warning ~~This sadly hits home for me. My dad was dying of pancreatic cancer and asked me to help him along with a sharp object. He begged me, while in a lot of pain. I obviously couldn’t do it, but I spent every night with him at the hospital. Listening to him scream for pain killers, for an entire month. I’ve struggled coming to terms with what I witnessed to this day. Watching my father suffer was the most horrible thing I have ever witnessed.

My sincerest condolences for what you went through. No one should ever be made to have such an experience like that. I am truly sorry for your loss.

@@jackdurden466 thank you so much for that. It was really hard on me and I’ve dealt with the trauma for almost 2 years now. I don’t know why I witnessed it. My father wasn’t the best person but I still loved him. He had 8 children and I was the only one who cared for him. Having to deal with it on my own almost took my sanity. My other sisters hated him so much and they still take it out on me. I look the most like him after all. Regardless, I’m still processing it to this day. I don’t know if I’m weak but I chose to transform the hate into love.

Seeing the beings after a certain time awake, etc. I’d almost think that I’d heard it before but there were just enough differences to make it slightly less exact. Although it was a retelling of a retold story, I actually still enjoyed it. I guess those subtle changes made it just enough better than the other ones. Thanks Mr Creeps!

22:26 The American Sleep Experiment" is a captivating horror story that deeply explores the psychology of humans and their hidden fears. The narrative goes beyond a mere scientific experiment, taking readers on a journey into the darker corners of the mind. The tension escalates with each passing moment as the characters confront unimaginable horrors. What makes the story stand out is how it reflects human vulnerability in the face of sleep-a state we often take for granted, yet it holds many mysteries. If you enjoy psychological horror, this is definitely an experience not to be missed!

Yeh it's super uncomfortable but definetly no crazy stuff ... Maybe some shadows out of the corner of your eyes .... These stories are always written by highschool kids who don't even know about the world record for staying awake aka 11 days ..... Dude was out of it and super slow to be able to do anything but for sure no dead people or self mutilation ..... They could at least put all the crazy stuff past day 11 because we don't know what happened past that.

I know the protagonist has come to the conclusion he's the problem in the end but I think his heart was in the right place. How else will science learn how to address Extreme insomnia.

You can either be a man of science pushing the boundaries of the known world. Or you can be a morally good person. They are mutually exclusive.

@@mordeciao2200 Push the boundaries of science. The two are not mutually exclusive. Science has given us medicine and prevention of disease. If he discovered a way to fight insomnia so no one else would have to suffer that would be a good thing gained by scientific experimentation. Penicillin is a good thing and we got that from Mold. I guess we weren't supposed to do that huh😂.
