Great video Dave. I’ve been dealing with this very same issue. Will have to dive into my VCDS and see what I can find for faults. And get me a Power Probe……been putting off purchasing one far too long. And nice to see you didn’t cut the video at the wiring repair……you actually showed how the TDI should start at cold temperature.

Broken wires on your oil level sensor will cause a short in wet conditions and cause limp mode followed by your vehicle dying and you getting stranded near a major airport in an industrial area with no Volkswagen dealers close by, and no 'pick n pay' wreckers anymore. To get home without having to spend two days in an industrial area watching cement workers come and go for their shifts. I cut the wires so no wires were exposed. Covered it in tape. Read the forums until I worked it out. My car needed resetting after the short. I reset it by disconnecting the power wire off the battery, touched and held it to ground by placing an item of clothing on it to weigh it down so I could hold the horn for 10 seconds to drain all power from the ECU. Once this was done I attempted to start and it sounded promising. Two more attempts and it started. Spluttered, but started. Drove 50kms home still in limp and hardly used the turbo. Got a scan tool. Reset it with that and it's been fine since. Why haven't I replaced the sensor, plug, and wiring. The sensor is close to $300AUD. The D plug and wires are app. $100. You can rewire without the plug but who want to pay 300 bucks for a sensor that is essentially an electronic dipstick. One last thing. I had to turn my EGR off. That was causing issues, too. Get a catch can, too. I haven't bothered putting a new sensor, plug and wires in. (all separate items)

Top job as we’ve come to expect Dave. Do love a Caddy van; had five of them so far. Wife still runs one as her ‘dog van’. That dip in front of the gearbox is definitely a problem area. Great stuff Dave, so glad I found this. I have a Caddy SDI (09) for 6 years and to this day it has cold starting issues. A few years back I took it to VAGS garage and they replaced the fuel pump in the tank but has not solved the issue. Anyway my solution to get the van started every morning is to turn ignition about 10 times and then crank, this allows it to (sometimes reluctantly) start. I always thought it was a fuelling issue, but im gonna test that sensor and the wiring to see if theres a break. Thing is thou, by turning ignition 10 times it does seem to get it started ! Any reasoning why this may be Dave ?? Thanks
@hbr6545 Жыл бұрын
Hey James did you manage to solve your problem? I've having similar issues with my Seat Leon 1.9TDI 105hp. I have replaced relays, did full maintenence and the problem remains. Now i'm considering the fuel pump as I have been told these cars sometimes have fuel pump issues. What have you done?
@JamesJames-um5xq Жыл бұрын
No I didnt get it sorted, scrapped the vehicle now as it was a pita@@hbr6545
@JamesJames-um5xq Жыл бұрын
I wouldnt like to suggest what it is tbh could be anything; pin hole in the fuel pipes sometimes lets the fuel back to the tank when left overnight, problems with the fuel injectors perhaps !, glow plugs not heating the fuel when starting maybe.

@@JamesJames-um5xq it happens randomly.. could happen first thing in the morning but it could also happen when driving ... in fact it happen to me twice the car shutdown while driving and then struggle to start the engine. Loving your work ! Can you shine any light on this issue? I have a 2006 Golf 2.0 TDI (170bhp) BMN engine code. If car is left for a day or 2 in garage, It takes 2-4 short cranks to start,on each attempt engine fires and tries to start but doesnt catch.Once car has been started it start on the button everytime.Im convinced this problem is due to air getting in fuel lines or relating to fuel.I can hear the main tank pump operate when i turn ignition on,And Sometimes if i turn ignition on and off 3-4 times the car will start straight away..2 areas iconsidering to look are Tandem pump and fuel tank pump..Although i have read that worn injector o-ring seals could cause Bleed off.Would you happen to know if the fuel tank pump has a non return valve mechanism fitted inside of ithe pump either to the supply or return.Or do you think im barking up the wrong tree Many Thanks Dave
