Ali is one of the few Muslims left in the village post 1948 Hyderabad riots. The villagers have out casted Ali along with others. Ali has been waiting for a letter since 2 years and has been visiting the post office daily in a hope to receive the letter. The clerk, who has suffered losses from the riots, develops hatred towards Ali and ridicules Ali every time he comes to the post office. Gokul a Brahman gets appointed as the new postmaster. He is a man of principles and believes in equality. Will Gokul help Ali? Will Ali receive the letter? Why is the letter so important to Ali? Who is the letter from?
